I'm autistic student nurse. Communication is a challenge for me. I'm tired of people telling us we're not cut out for nursing because we have communication issues. It's ableism, plain and simple. Nursing, I believe, requires a diverse set of personalities. My mentor is introverted and shy, so she didn't put any pressure on me to be outgoing. More essential than talking is being a good listener. You dont need to be chatty person to be a good nurse.

You will be a great nurse, don't let ignorant people tell you anything. When you become a nurse and people makes those types of comments, tell them HEY. I'm autistic, and I'm a nurse. Your opinion doesn't apply to me and stop judging people like me.

I’m really tied down between ultrasound tech or nursing. It’s a lot of money and commitment!!! Been thinking about this for about 2 years now.

Hey, I’m a freshmen in high school and I want to pursue a career in nursing, as both my parents have been RNs all my life. I am not a peoples person, and I’m usually quite awkward/silent/quiet when talking to new people. Do you think I can get over this as I mature and move forward through my education? I’m still really young with lots to learn.

I work in a nail salon and I talk to customers all day long. I don't mind it at all. I am stuck between Medical Coding or Nursing. I still can't decide. I'm afraid that I will burn myself out in nursing or that I would hate to sitting all day starring at a computer in medical coding. Help!
