Controlling your aquariums nutrients can be key to preventing and dealing with Dino and Cynao bacteria.
Products used to beat Dino/Cyano:
Waste Away geni.us/wateaway
ATM Colony geni.us/atmcolony
Hydrogen Peroxide geni.us/peroxide
Aqualifter geni.us/aqualifter
Wooden Airstone geni.us/woodairstone
We once struggled to keep nutrients down and now with the advances in filtration many are struggling to add nutrients... in-balances are theorized to cause cyano and dino issues in a tank.. I have seen many shut down a tank over these issues. With a little persistence you can beat it!
The Method in todays stream will be posted to the facebook group where you can refer to it and ask questions if needed.

@@ReefDudes at the time I started dosing I had bad bubble algae as well as dinos smothering everything. My tank was actually running wonderfully at about 1 year. I had 10 ppm nitrates and low phosphate. What caused mine was I bought a coral from a local store that had it. Went away on vacation for a day and when I came home tank was completely smothered. Tried kalkwasser to raise ph. Water changes. Not doing water changes. Blue lights only. Nothing worked. During this time bubble algae set it. I had never had it in previous tanks so just thought one bubble isn't bad I wonder why people don't like this. Then it rapidly spread all over. With both plagues I decided to turn to vibrant after using dino x which I honestly feel like they just put water in a bottle because nothing happened. With vibrant within two weeks a completely bubble algae dino covered and smothered 300 gallon system was cured. Before that I faced bryopsis I picked up on rock. Easily cured with elevated tech m by Kent marine. Bad hair algae which I cured with fluconazole. Ich brought in on a powder blue which spread to my other fish. Everything I read said you cant get rid of ich once in. My theory is we all have it just goes dormant. But I used focus and metroplex on the foods my tank most readily accepted and after a few weeks which made sense because of life stages of ich it has stayed away for nine months now. No one ever died.

Same here. When you say dinos do you mean dinoflagettes? I was going to try vibrant when I thought it was green hair alggae mixed with diatoms. Just wondering if vibrant worked for dioflagettes. I would like to try that first espially since I dont know what I am dealing with and this method is pretty drastic and I have to buy a lot of stuff!

Ok I followed the original methodology.. Explains a lot. Really wish you guys did this video a couple weeks ago.😉 I wound up getting a crazy crazy bloom. Water was literally milk white. By day three I stopped carbon dosing. Started running my skimmer and scrubbing 24 hrs. Started the hydrogen peroxide on the fourth day. It took three or four days but the tank was Crystal clear. Not just the Dyno's disappeared. But my rock work was super clean. Everything in the tank was wicked stressed but everything bounced back. I lost one of my clowns and two small colonies of Red Dragon. Thought I was going to lose my derasa. But didn't. I'll be seriously frightened. Thank God everything worked out better than I was hoping. I really need to delete the screenshot of the original method and get a copy of the up to date method. Thanks guys..

I want to start this treatmeant plan but dont understand what to do if you have low nutrients and adding carbon dosing and also adding a bacteria that lowers nutrients.. What does he mean by not collecting or throwing out skim collected? I am just getting to where I am showing some phosphates and was dosing phosphates for a while. What started all this was probably carbon dosing and getting them to low. So the whole thing about carbon dosing scares me and dont understand this part and how do I run the toms aqua lifter? Do I set it at the bottom of tank on sand bed? Please help. Its getting bad, I spent a while trying to indentify it so last water change made them worse and already havnt changed water in a week now and quit sucking it out and putting the dirty water back in, and I need to order the stuff. I hope I can use Vibrant and MB7.

Why does this treatment work for both Dinos and Cyano? I would think that since they are both different organisms, that they may require different treatments. I have had a major cyano outbreak for about 6 months since I did a tank move. I tried Chemiclean approaches but it always comes back. I am hoping this regimen will work because I am definitely at "last resort/closing down tank" stage. My tank also always runs low /zero nitrates and I have a hard time keeping them up - I am hoping that this will correct the "balance" and then I will try to keep nitrates non-zero as well (just not sure if I shouls also be dosing nitrogen during this regimen or after)

I'm a little confused on Day 5 of the program. The skimmer has been running from Day 4, so presumably it's still on during Day 5, the instructions state to then add more bacteria. If I'm adding more bacteria while the skimmer's running, won't it just get skimmed out? Should I be turning my skimmer off for a few hours while I dose bacteria and then turn it back on?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 4 года назад
It’s fine to turn off for a few hours after dosing. It will likely remove some but as long as most of it makes it onto Surfaces it will do its job
@scottlopez5462

It also may be worth noting because i think i am dealing with the problem now, do you need to dose phosphate to system to keep it above .03? Ive realized i cant get my phos up and think this may be why the bacteria isn’t winning, the waste away claims to remove phosphate and nitrate. Wondering if this was an issue for anyone else?

is there any other bacteria or algae that gets worse after waterchange. I am letting the dinos or whever it is grow now instead of vacumming to see if it gets long and stringy like dinos but so far it hasnt but it gets crazy after a water change. Do diatoms get worse after water change? It looks like heavy diatoms covering glass but on the glass bubbles tick to it. also in sand and rocks and wavemakers.

I've heard of people who's RODI wasn't fully doing it's job (i.e. needed some filters/Di resin change), was letting silicates through which diatoms feed on I believe. However, haven't seen it personally, and if your rodi's still good then guessing that isn't the cause. Equally people running refugiums are recommended to dose certain elements that are used by the algae, wanna say like iron, molybdenum and few others, so could be that a particular element in the water is essentially the limiting factor to that organisms growth, and when you water change you add some more 'fuel' in that element back in. But again couldn't give you any advice in how to fix that, or even I.d.

Introduced a fish to the system which unfortunately developed white spot. Started to pass it onto the others so pulled everything out to go into quarantine. You should mention that if you have existing nitrates in your system the Dr. Tims Waste Away will drastically reduce nitrates increasing Alk. I had a 1.4 PPM increase in alkalinity in an SPS tank. Not the best side effect without warning.
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 4 года назад
It affects alk? I would have never of thought there would be a coloration there.
@SNBI2A
@SNBI2A 4 года назад
@@ReefDudes Yes Randy Holmes has an article on it that I found after discovering the increase in alk. Safe to say corals are not happy as it increased that amount with 3 days. Po3 was 15-20 now reads 1ppm. "If you have a lot of existing nitrate and it gets consumed by macro algae bacteria so that the actual nitrate level drops alk will rise. In the absence of o2, and taking the nitrogen species completely to n2 we have the following overall: organic + 125 no3- + 124h+ 122 c02 + 70 n2 + 208 h20. It can be seen that the process above produces alkalinity by consuming h+. in fact it is the same amount of alkalinity that was depleted when the nitrate was originally formed from foods, so the net effect of the nitrogen cycle on the alkalinity is zero out"
