Massive thanks to NUX for sending me the Amp Academy. Rather than a review, I just wanted to show you how I am using it and why I think it is awesome :)

I have one of these units and really never fails to amaze me . One trick some other users taught me in a group chat was moving the S/R block putting it between the Amp block and IR block .......makes a HUGE diifference . Another cool trick is moving the Effects block to the end of the signal chain and select the Compressor . This will give the amp a very realistic tube amp feel .........Nice demo and enjoy !

We use two of these in band context as a single channel preamps for our backline and DI to front of house, the NUX AA and the red and black Blackstar Dept. 10 Dual pedals are the only small affordable pedals I tried that can do both at the same time, other units lack either volume separation or can only disable/enable the IR globally. We don’t use the build in boosts, they add some weird digital sound, maybe cause of going wireless, so analog boosts in front instead, which with certain boosts, drives or fuzzes can add an even more amp like reaction. Also, for high gain stages the build in gate works better after the preamp section when the goal is having it cut right on palmmute stops but still maximize the decay, pre it is faster than post, mainly because there is more compression post than pre if I’m not mistaken. Also more natural gating post, doesn’t make that weird sound often associated with noise gates when the gate closes for the signal. Also, the high and low cut can lessen the audio engineers work, good idea to study what they do and how they are set for rythm and lead guitars in the mix. With two guitars, the EQ post is also very usefull to make them cut through and stand out from eachother, master volume on the EQ all the way down also allows more of the amps master volume to be up, which is usefull to avoid small changes doing to much when going both to a poweramp as a console at the same time.

Hi, great videos. You answered some of my questions, especially switching between only 2 scenes. Also it'd great if ya could a a 2 button footswitch to go between amp types and save different scenes for each. Do you mind telling me if you know, can you have different amp settings in scenes, so just change the gain, or can scenes only turn on and off effect blocks? Thanks
@yaguitar
@yaguitar 10 месяцев назад
If I remember correctly you can change everything.

good video mate. Looks like a great bit of kit. I’d want as mostly just an amp and cab modeller and use pedals for effects. It seems to work well with drive pedals, wondering how this behaves with things like wah and whammy pedals?

Awesome review, you covered many of the doubts that I had, thanks! One question: Is it possible to send the signal into a real cabinet? I think something like this would do, but not sure: Guitar -> Amp Academy (IR off) -> Power amp (such as Mooer Baby Bomb 30) -> Cabinet (such as Orange PPC112)

Really helpful demonstration..can i be able to use the scene thing save as preset on chnl A/B switch? I wish to use A/B chnl only A for clean tone with delay,reverb n B for crunch chnl ..is it doable?
@JeanThomasdeVoghel
@JeanThomasdeVoghel Год назад
A is going to be only for the 3 cleaner amps, B is going to be only for the 3 dirty amps. But you could setup a nice clean sound in A scene 1 and add a dirt pedal to it in A scene 2, so you can use the scene to switch from clean to dirty on the same amp. Or just roll back the gain on the dirty amp in channel B so you get your crunchy tone

3 options. Download the nux asio driver nux.cherubtechnology.com//enclosure/sources/pUGPSbRgeKoErnWd/NUX_AUDIO_DriverSetup_v4.82.1.zip and use that in your DAW or you can use Asio4All, which is what I used here.

Hi Andrzej, When ever I plug the unit in, out the box, you're right it sounds dire. However, I can't get the software to engage properly. When ever I plug the unit in and connect to my laptop, the top section of the software with all the knobs and signal chain is greyed out and the words BY PASS in large text laid over the top. How do you get the software to engage properly?

I don't use it now as I was given a couple of things that replaced it for my needs (Carl Martin ampster and recently a valeton gp200jr). When I had it, I was very happy and I think it's had a couple of updates since the review as well.

Great idea to get several tones. But for me, it seems playing a guitar is getting TOO technical and busy. I prefer simplicity. Just a gtr n amp. Then a couple stomps with minimal controls (3 at most). But maybe thats coz im 70s 80s breed? Its good for younger gen who like to use computers, and want it as part of their rig tho. But while today has things we only dreamed of in the 80s... i feel we are now in an age where theres too many options, and its causing many guitarist to pedantically "tone-chase" near to exact tones of their fave guitar idols, and specific rig sounds. Nothing wrong with that, but theres an illusion that if people can get specific tones, that theyl sound like their idols. But that will never happen, coz you have to "be" them to get that sound. In our era, many of us only had a few (simple) tools to work with, and often settling for 2nd best due to lower income. So we learned to tweak and milk the tools we had. We made them work, and we got great tones with simple stuff because we learned how to work with what we had. And it was more organic sounding. And due to not having to many options, the focus was more about the guitar playing, rather than busy with lots of dials and tech.

Same. I'm now an apartment dweller tho. Previously had both an Orange Micro Dark w/ cab & a Vox AC4 1x12 combo in wet/dry via a Radial splitter, but even those wee amps were just too loud! Ha! while digital is getting much better? It doesn't yet have that mojo when slapping the front end with a boost, OD, Fuzz, or wha IMO. Even the Fractal AXFX Ultra I also previously owned. The closest to the "real thing" I've done going in direct to my interface? A Victory all tube V4 preamp pedal. Absolutely brilliant!
@gypsysteve3576

@@EasyHeat yeah these pteamp pedals seem like they could even replace amps entirely in the future. I have the Joyo American Sound, and am surprised at what it claims to do. Ive not explored it fully yet, but does have some nice tones. Then a few months back i saved up n bought a 65 Princeton, then a Boss SD1 for both boost and 70s gritty Rock, and a NUX Plexi Crunch for heavier JCM800 Rock type gain. But really; a mid scooped blackface amp and an SD1 i could live with forever and never need another pedal ...that Tone ...wow! (And the speaker isnt even broken in yet). I usually play my cij strat, and is why i bought the PRRI, but thought ide try the LesPaul through the SD1 into Princeton ...and even more WOW !! I didnt expect that! That SD1 at 9'o'clock gain and amp volume on 3, (or even 2 for those who live in an apartment), is pure heaven after about an hour of those valves (and myself) warming up. Dont even need to go to breakup volumes.

I honestly believe it helps your ears and feel, to own both worlds. There is so much available and technology is zooming ahead. I have 6 valve amps and one Helix.I bought the Plexi Marshall last week. It is glorious but so is keeping abreast of the technology.As one feeds the other, imagination-wise
