The Nux Solid Studio has been brought up by a few people in the Strymon Iridium discussion. Here's how it's a slightly different thing, but also definitely has a potential role to play for those looking to go direct!

this or iridium? I know the price difference is significant but in terms of tone?

at 06:03 I explain that it's not a direct competitor to the Iridium - the Solid Studio can ONLY do the speaker sim/power amp side of things, where as the Iridium does Amp and Speaker Sim. You'll need a preamp pedal with the Solid Studio.

@@johnnathancordy I thought this might be good if I wanted to use different pre-amp pedals such as a Burning Sunn or Electric Blanket, etc. lots of options... and then put them into the NUX to act as the IR and power-amp sim part of it.

Get Joyo American sound for 30 bucks and nux solid studio. Then you have something similar to Iridium

@@nicolasacunaluongo4217 i tried this combination. Also i have iridium but nux solid studio and joyo american sound is great together. Touch sensitive and tone is wonderful. I love my iridium but this combination is much more better than iridium and price is half

Best review of this. I’ve been looking at either this, Iridium or Simplifier. You review helped my realize that I’ll save a little more for the Simplifier. Great review.

The best part of these NuX pedals is the PRICE !! They are affordable. I bought a Horseman, a Brownie and a Morning Star for less that a single boutique pedal and they sound amazing !!. I got my soldering iron out and built the Anasounds Ego Drive for 69 Euros . a steal and what a sound .. Try one !!( Tubescreamer with interchangeable Diodes and Caps )

Great video man..Im a fan on twin revrb style preamp on a Solid studio which is suitable for recording with xlr..Im still curious on a new Nux Amp Academy which is preamp connect to this nux solid studio and still a pedal i can afford..I still can't make a choice either buy Nux Amp Academy or solid studio..if im lose one of this pedal,i will miss out something..both have xlr...i hope you can make a video on Nux Amp Academy in a future..This 2 pedal can be a combo..Cheers Man

Superb playing, man! Quick questions, would it be possible for you to tell us exactly what your pedal chain is? Also, instead of buying a guitar pre-amp pedal, would it ok to use my interface’s preamp and run it through my pedal chain with the nux studio at the end?

I think you need the Sparkle drive mod, you seem to want a clean and od crunch sound, it has 3 od sounds and a clean blend

I’ve had to send mine back twice now. First one was defective right out of the box, sent it back they sent me another one that worked fine for a couple of months and then it started being noisy....still have not opened the latest one...

In general, how reliable do you find NUX products, and specifically the MG300? I've seen some reviews where a product broke after a month, and the purchaser could not get a reply from NUX for repair/replacement. Thanks

Really? We offer 1-year warranty to authorized distributors and their dealers. Just contact the retailer who sells you the product for after-service, that's the business model. For the production, we have a serious QC lab. The Nux MG300 takes pedals well. I am getting another this week and am going to compare the American Sound, Getaria Cube Baby, and the MG300. I have a AC Tone but it is not that great with pedals. Sounds great on its own.

So if I use the NUX only, can that get the job done of emulating an amp ?or will is still need a preamp ?

You need a preamp.The Nux will cover the Power Amp section then Mic and Cab ( or IR) .

Yes, I’m watching NUX’s products, from a distance. From what I’ve seen, the sound/tonal quality ain’t bad, considering the price. Even their new multi fx pedal is turning heads. My problem is, I always remember NUX as a chocolate bar with nuts and nougat 😉

Great video Johnnathan! I have a question: Say your amp doesn't have an fx loop, can you connect this to a tube amp by looping it between the amp speaker jack and its amp socket via a speaker cable? @@jimashtube Thanks again Jonathan, I ended up buying the pedal after watching your video and explanation of it. I ended up connecting it to my vintage roland cube 60 via the fx loop (using the drive knob to simulate the power amp stage) and it's amazing as I can turn the master volume down on my amp and use it for silent recording. Cheers again man! And keep up the awesome playing!

Have you tried it with other preamp pedals? Would the Xotic BB Preamp pedal work well with it?

Can give that a try? What else have I got? Maybe the j rockett Lenny, the RevivalDrive....err those sorts of pedals?

I'd asked about this hoping you'd make a video on it. Had no idea I was using it wrong with no pre amp pedal, I thought it sounded okay 😬 Maybe you could load the same IR into iridium or Line 6 unit and compare ? 🤔

This Is a tricky pedal....i've tried to use it as First pedal in the chain.....nothing was working .....so I kicked It out from the pedalboard because i was thinking It Is defective. After this beutiful and useful video, I'll try again placing it at the end of the chain or in the send/return loop....let's see if it can work....

@@johnnathancordy Dear John, i understood It only After tour explanation. I was thinking the cabinet Is burned out.... Now I moved nuxSS in the send/return loop: here It works. I'm using a tube pilot TCE as preamp. Thanks for your precious tip

dude yourrig has some other elements which makes the solid studio WAYYY nicer sounding thats quite misleading
