I got a long winded story that you will find very interesting. I hope. there is a point in time my old gaming notebook with GTX 880M will byte the bullet. Well it did. SAD after work so hard to earn the money to buy it. So I have to get over it and get on with it. lets say a little check was chased in from a bit corp. $2300.00 or something like that. before the CES 2019 started. I made the call to fuck all the big brand names. like ASUS ,MSI, HP and so n all the big brand name simply FUCK IT EVERYTHING IS FULL OF BULL SHIT old tech that have been killed off the market 5 years ago. like i7 cpu RUNNING 2.2 GHz my old CPU that is on my X99 motherboard is a a lost faster then that. any way the big brand name people do not look in to SAGER. Then done a tone of research. can I have GAMING TOWER PC in a 17.1 GAMING NOTEBOOK ? the answer to that is OH HELL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! SAGER is forever take the chance to take the next leap in gaming notebooks. MSI and ASUS and every one else do not do there job. SAGER going warp speed with there new 17.1 gaming notebook NP9175 yes NP9175 is a very dead name for a notebook. What is not dead is what is in side. lets dig deep in to the guts of NP9175 first off the CPU. you need a brain. and this is no stupid bird brain. INTEL i7 8700K in a 17.1" gaming notebook.a custom dealer can upgrade that CPU to i9 9900K I cannot afford that. However its in there if you choose to pick it up. the next one its chip set Z370.. now SAGER is talking. I know System ram is slow. DDR4 16GB 2400MHz one SODIM STICK. I cannot afford to the upgrade to 3000MHz its there if you want it I removed all internal storage and gone to NEWEGG and got my 500GB NVME $105.00 + tax and shipping. and not pay $280.00 for the same thing at the notebook dealer. I1 7200 RPM spinning storage is at cheap $55.00 at NEWEGG. not $100.00 at the notebook dealer. this is the best part I did order GTX 1070 8GIGS GDDR5 that is a huge leap killing GTX 880M This is where the NOT NEWS I am holding pater for my graphic card to come in for landing at the end of the month OUT OF STOCK This part is not in option list. GTX 1070 is retired and I get a free upgrade to RTX 2070 8 GIGS GDDR6 How I wish I have upgrade to GTX 1080. However its still one hell of a upgrade. yes I do have 17.1" screen with NVIDIA G-SYNK 144MHZ or 144 FPS MATT 72% NTSC I am not a fan of MAT screen/ I am a HIGH GLOSS TRUE LIFE fan,. I will take it as it is. I do not think I am going to get NVIDIA G-SYNK ULTIMATE OH WELL. I paid for it then I wait.www.gentechpc.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Build-Sager-NP9175

It’s honestly a good strategy. If you always buy the last generation once the new one comes out you will still have a great card. Or you can try to only upgrade once every other generation or two.

+LinkinPark 4Life Usually a very good strategy, but I think Nvidia played the timing card on this one. The previous generation is well over 2 years old now, which is the longest time ever for a previous generation, so you're buying into considerably older tech than you normally would by buying the previous generation. Now, the key issue with this old vs new tech is, of course, how much more performance you're getting on the games that will be out there during the time before the next generation shows up. If the difference between the old tech and the new one isn't that big then it doesn't matter how old the tech is. You'll be missing out on all the ray tracing and what not, but I don't think there will be enough of it until later down the road, at which point you'll be closer to the 21XX family of cards anyway. This is a funky generational leap into new tech so a lot of things are up in the air until we get extensive reviews.

Possibly, hard to really know for sure, I still wouldn't be surprised if they do 20 series GTX cards too, in which case the 10 series may drop in price and could be a good deal.

The more I look into the new cards as news becomes available the more I’m pushed towards the idea of waiting for deals on 10 series laptops. These new cards cost a lot more than last generation and only really seem to brag about their new ray tracing tech. And that only seems to tank performance as they’re getting 30fps at 1080p. Considering the whole point of the 10 series was to make 4K playable why would they be proud of such a resource hungry tech option? I’ll be waiting for reviews, but the 20 series cards look like they’re not gonna justify the high price tag.
@JarrodsTech

Yeah exactly, I'm thinking the same at the moment, I guess we'll see if that changes when we actually see proper benchmarks outside of ray tracing specific testing.

I really hope so. They’ve had years to make something revolutionary. The Titan Volta was evidence that they really could do so. Sadly with literally no competition Nvidia can do whatever they want. Until AMD or Intel makes something that threatens Nvidia in the GPU department they’ll keep this up. Oh well here’s to cheap 1080 laptop ina few months. :)

Oh I agree with ya. But, like you I’m not gonna pay a premium to be a beta tester. All I really care about is raw performance. I’ve upgraded my system to a 3440x1440 100hz monitor. So all I want to know is how much better a new card would run it. And I’ll likely be in going to 4K in the future.

That power draw comparison chart between RTX 20 series Turing and GTX 10 series Pascal hit the nail in the head. No OEM is going to slap a RTX 2080 or 2070 when they draw much more power and don't show any noteworthy performance gains over a 1080 TI and 1080 respectively. There is nothing to gain, it will only make power bricks larger or double, thermal solutions beefier/thicker and battery time shorter for a 5% increase in avg fps over Pascal... In 2019 Gaming laptop manufacturers should stick with 10 series Pascal or try to fit a 1080 TI MaxQ on the 17 Inch desktop replacement models. If the reviewer community already figured out the RTX 20 series is a stopgap to make 10 series pascal look good value in 2019 and sell the massive leftover stock. I'm pretty sure OEM know better. They will wait for 7nm mobile GPU and all the power/thermal efficiency they will bring. No point in wasting resources designing a laptop case and thermal solution for Turing I predict a limited production run of 17 inch desktop replacements with RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 targeted at whales or fan boys but that's it. Lastly if the 2060 is actually a GTX offering 1070ti performance for a slightly lower power draw compared to the 6GB 1060 it would be an instant hit for thin and light gaming laptops.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 5 лет назад
Yeah exactly, I mean they could do it, but why? There might be a few laptops that have the high end 20 series, I mean you can get SLI 1080 / 8700K laptops but they're huge with 2x power bricks.

A Lenovo rep who leaked the fact that the 2080 was coming this year in late June also stated they would be implementing the new cards in their laptops "whenever they come out". There probably will be, nothing has been announced yet though so we'll just have to wait and see. @LuideMulumba

The way I see it, the only way NVIDIA is getting more gaming performance out of their GPUs is by increasing the TDP, because the tech used to process the graphics hasn't changed. And considering manufacturers are trying to get their laptops thinner and more powerful, I don't think cards with higher TDPs would be viable. Therefore the 10 series chips should remain valid for a long time to come.

@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 лет назад
Depends on the CPU, from what I've heard 9th gen will probably be a small refresh like 6th > 7th so probably not too much of a performance improvement, current i5 8300H / i7-8750H seem fine in laptops, granted power throttling issues when under multicore workloads which seems to be a common theme I've noticed in all my review videos, maybe if the 9th gen is more power efficient this will be less of an issue.

Some gaming numbers were recently published by Nvidia, definitely take them with a huge grain of salt until we get independent third party benchmark results as they're usually cherry picked. Yeah probably, not something I could test with in a review unit unfortunately, just found it interesting that in the end despite the huge heat sinks with fans maxed out thermals were the limiting factor, a good change compared to all the other laptops I've tested that just power limit throttle due to arbitrary limits.

@JarrodsTech

I don't see why not, my guess is that there's no 1070Ti in laptops because it came out later in the product cycle, could also be that it requires more power so manufacturers just stick to either 1070 or 1080, not really sure though.

Since I have the system, I might as well run the benchmark so that you can get a better idea of how it performs. Here's my system: CPU: Intel Core i7 8550U Ram: 16GB LPDDR3 GPU enclosure: HP Omen Accelerator GPU: Asus GTX 1080ti Okay, so here's the Superposition Benchmark 1080p Extreme (laptop's internal monitor) Score: 4981 Min FPS: 29.29 Avg FPS: 37.26 Max FPS: 85 4K Optimized (yes, my laptop has 4k 13 inches internal display and tb3 beamed the signal back to display, no external monitor was used) Score: 6720 Min FPS: 38.50 Avg FPS: 50.27 Max FPS: 84 They both have 99% gpu utilization. So, what did you think? Not bad for bottlenecking performance? Using an external monitor does give more performance, but not that much.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 лет назад
Hmm hard to compare given the laptop CPU, I've only tested a 1080Ti once and that was with an 8700K and the CPU will affect the result, but I got 9423 score in 4K optimized there and 5847 with 1080p extreme so I guess you're not too far behind there, some would be due to the CPU. As for bottlenecking due to Thunderbolt I showed a bit of that in my Mantiz Venus eGPU enclosure review, I put my 1080 in the enclosure and it was performing closely to the 1060 Max-Q inside the laptop and that was with an external display.

@NickJaime 6 лет назад
I'm not worried about the power draw from the new cards since they will be in laptop's with a psu of 330 or more. And if a laptop uses a lower one then a max Q version will be the one in that model. But them leaving out performance and benchmarks comparing to last year's GPU isn't a good sign that it won't be alot. For the price they want it would warrant a big jump in performance like previous generations but it seems those days are gone.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 лет назад
I guess my concern was that we already see power limit throttling of the 8th gen CPUs in most current laptops, if the graphics need even more power I don't want to see further limitations put in place. Max-Q versions would certainly help reduce power usage, but will be interesting to see how far they need to cut them down from the desktop counterparts, hopefully not too far!
@NickJaime
@NickJaime 6 лет назад
@@JarrodsTech of course power is always a factor when overclocking laptop's but cooling is also a factor. Which is why I think having power being a limiting factor is good. Thank you for the video, Jarod. While we still do not know the exact numbers nor the performance of these new cards in comparison to the previous generation, Jensen did clearly state during the conference that the RTX 2070 will perform better than a Titan XP. They are utilizing a new acronym known as “Giga Rays” to describe performance, as opposed to using Teraflops, because it is literally new technology without an existing baseline to work from. Note: During GTC, Nvidia built a server with nearly $70,000 in hardware for a demonstration to show us Ray Tracing (among other things), which is now rendered obsolete by a single RTX GPU, in regards to performance. So, I wouldn’t be so quick to assume there will be little to no improvement in performance. I believe, particularly overtime, performance will increase as games are developed around these new technologies.
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 лет назад
I think the comment regarding better than titan xp was with regards to specific workloads, namely ray tracing in particular which is sped up by new hardware, I have my doubts that this would apply in many games practically. I'm sure it is a huge leap forward for that particular workload, but until more games actually make use of that it won't be that useful, although I suppose you've got to start somewhere with new technology.
@justinc5336
@justinc5336 6 лет назад
Jarrod'sTech That’s true, and very well could be the case. I don’t believe there will be insane gains or anything, haha. However, speaking in regards to the RTX 2070, from the specifications alone, we see a modest 20%~ increase in cores on a new architecture (die shrink) with increased clock speeds and more efficient GDDR6 memory. It’s not far-fetched to suggest this card will go neck and neck with the GTX 1080 in current games. There are exciting times ahead regardless! I look forward to your reviews. 👍

I disagree on "buy a laptop now" I bought a laptop with i7 6500 u 4 months before cheaper, but MUCH faster i5 8250u was released, that was a huge mistake. 1000 series is 2 years old now. Not only that, new series is always more efficient. A 2060 laptop will probably be as fast as a gtx 1070 laptop but much cooler and lightter, because it will have less heat to deal with, same with RTX 1070 against gtx 1080. with 1080 you would ALWAYS get thick laptops(unless we talk about max q version), while with 2070 it won't always be the case. I have to say, I'm not feeling much remorse at having bought last week. Core i7-8750H + GTX 1070 == pretty amazing performance for every single game I've thrown at it so far, enough that it's pretty obvious why nVidia hasn't actually been in a huge hurry to move forward, and why their initial next-gen offerings are focusing on adding an entirely new technology with possibly not much other change (as you say, still TBD). If there was a huge demand for 4k@144Hz, I could see trying to push that envelope, but right now, 1080p@144Hz seems to be a pretty common target for people, and I don't hear a lot of complaints about that. Eventually, I suppose, there will be games that just won't run at Ultra on the current generation of hardware...but I think it's going to be a while, yet!

Jarrod'sTech I was very surprised when I started actively shopping for a new laptop and discovered just how much the GPU landscape had changed and the rate of change slowed. AMD seems to be miles away, not even trying to compete with the Series 10. So between gamers not really clamoring that loudly for better-faster-stronger than the 1070/1080 can do, and no competition pushing them along, it makes sense that they're taking their time. I don't have any huge brand preference between AMD and nVidia, but the lack of truly competitive options from AMD made that choice easy this time around.

Nvidia is taking a bold step by pushing for ray tracing to be incorporated into mainstream/consumer products. Devs would need to put effort into providing support for ray tracing, despite knowing that the majority of consumers will still be running GTX series cards for at least a few years and won't even be able to make the most of it. Uptake might be a bit slow at first but with a tech giant like Nvidia pushing it I'm sure it'll get there in the end (just look at Apple starting their headphone jack-less trend)
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 лет назад
Yeah that's true, got to start somewhere I guess. I don't know how their ray tracing works, but it would be interesting if how ever they do it is proprietary to Nvidia, so by putting something like this out first they get a higher rate of game adoption in the future and by extension more sales when it's more widely supported.

No I doubt it, that would still be good in games for quite a while I'd think, I can't see devs moving to ray tracing exclusively to kill performance on older hardware, assuming many games even use them. Depends a bit more on performance difference I guess, if we get a highly performing card then maybe newer games will be built to take advantage of that making the 10 series less useful, but from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem like it's going to be a huge jump over the 10 series, but again have to wait and see.

@Jarrod's Tech Waiting myself to buy a laptop with a VR headset as I'm stuck with a dinky 960m from 2014. There was one slide in the presentation that was glossed over that said the new GPUS are capable of Variable Frame Focus (or other?) where they able to focus processing power only at what your looking at, like in real life with everything around that being somewhat blurred. Seems pretty essential tech going forward for VR development since it doesn't seem feasible to increase raw GPU power, to render whole pixel perfect screens at increased and wider resolutions for both eyes for future generations. With that said I'm gonna be looking for a 2070 for VR futureproofing. My question is should I be waiting for new intel cpus as well since 9th gen will hardware fix the meltdown + other vulnerabilities. :(
@JarrodsTech
@JarrodsTech 6 лет назад
Yeah that does sound useful for VR improvements, personally I'm not too interested in the 9th gen, for the most part the rumours seem to indicate it's just a small refresh (like the small change from 6th > 7th) while Intel is stuck on 14nm.

Yeah that's a good point, for the most part the i7-8750H laptops I've tested have all been quite warm, usually in comparison the graphics are a fair bit warmer so maybe there is a bit of wiggle room on the GPU side of things, depends how thin your laptop is I suppose 🤔
