DLSS is a joke and Ray Tracing isn't where it needs to be yet for a good reason to buy a GPU. But yeah, the 2070 Super is a much better buy that the Radeon VII for gaming. It's definitely not a good GAMING card for $700 now after the rtx super launch, but you have to keep in mind that the card has 16GB of HBM2 VRAM, which is what causes the card to become so expensive. As a compute/workstation card, it's actually a much better offering, but a price drop is likely to happen soon.

Priced closer to expectations? What? Because 400$ is closer to expectations than 350$ for a cut down 106 than the usual 200$? And 450$ ( for vanilla 2070 ) is closer to expectations for a full 106 die than the usual 250$? 2x price = closer to expectations?!?!?!?

I think the only problem with the 2060 Super’s MSRP being $400 US is that it now renders the 2060 almost useless and at the same time, you only have to spend $100 more to get the 2070 Super, almost making the 2060 Super useless. Here’s where I think, at the current MSRPs, where the Turing GPUs price/performance tier stands. Mid-Low Range: GTX 1660 ($220) Mid Range: GTX 1660 Ti ($280) Mid-High Range: RTX 2060 (now $350) High Range: RTX 2070 Super ($500), replacing RTX 2070 and making RTX 2060 Super pointless when only spending ~20% more High-Top Range: RTX 2080 Super (assuming $700), replacing RTX 2080 and most likely coming close enough to RTX 2080 Ti to make that GPU pointless at ~$200-400 more. I would almost have to think that a 2080 Ti Super is coming somewhere down the line with more of the TU102 core unlocked to match the VRAM of the Radeon VII, but that’s just my speculation.

@zgoaty9235 5 лет назад
Joe Sterling It would not surprise me either, but I think for those looking to upgrade early on from those still using say, a GTX 970 or 980, that 2070 Super may be tempting enough at $500 initial release price. The real question is: what can we expect from the 2080 Super when reviews of that come out? Cubaze Yeah, at that GPU’s current price of $150 US, with many third party options going for close to what a GTX 1660 goes for at MSRP, and the 1660 is a vastly better GPU for $70 more, if anyone’s picking that up over an RX 570 or even a used RX 470, 480, 570 or 580, that person is crazy. The 1650 needs to drop below $120 US to even be looked at as an option.

I just finished my first ever PC build. Before this I always bought my brothers “hand me down” pc parts if I wanted to play PC games. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 on a tomahawk 450 motherboard with 16gb of 3.2ghz ddr4 ram overclocked to 3733 and a PCI express 1TB SSD with a crazy fast transfer rate. I thought long and hard about the GPU and decided to go with an RTX 2070 super founders edition for the video card over a 2060S or a 5700xt. I got it mainly because I was really interested in ray tracing, but also because my employee discount allowed me to get it for $472 with a 2 year full warranty instead of $500 retail. It’s not much, but only $72 more expensive than the 5700xt with way more benefits imo. The 3rd party cards as well as the 5700xt had no discount so the price cut was a factor. I also have a dell 155hz 1440p monitor, which the 2070S seemed perfectly suited for. Because of that warranty I can return the card at any time over the next two years and use that money to get an upgrade in the future if I want in case a better card comes along like an AMD high end RTX card that’s rumored to release before the end of the year, so to me there is no downside. What do you all think?

Hi Richard, It would have been interesting to see also games that actually takes advantages of the new Technologies offered by the Turing Architecture, not everything is about RAW Numbers, yes a 1080ti may still be a little faster in terms of RAW CUDA core power, but games like Wolfensteing II that have things like VRS in them will give a Boost to the 2060 S and 2070 S, also the fact that they can do Integer and Float calculations at the same time, I think those sorts of test are important too.

I understand that I'm not getting the Ray Tracing features, but the GTX 1080 TI is still performing well to not really warrant an upgrade. I might wait for RTX 3 series or 4 before deciding to upgrade. Ray Tracing is something that is truly unique and needed for games, but the lack of support (although gaining speed) isn't worth throwing out the cash.

they really need to stop wasting so much money on trying to make smaller production processes and do something about the other limitations like case standards and power. imagine a card that's four times the size of the standard graphics card (nearly the same size as your motherboard but runs at the same speed with the same size transistors. its the only real way we will continue to see improvements in graphics power without making such small transistors that the yield suffers so much the price shoots up. obviously that would need a different standard of case design and cooling systems. but if it were introduced as a new standard it would really open things up for 8k gaming at insane refresh rates with MANY more GB of video memory.

The 2060S is a basically a 2070, and the 2070S is basically a 2080 - so that is one hell of a price drop (essentially a $100 drop on 2070, and a $200 drop on 2080). * 2080-like performance for $499 MSRP (vs 2080's $699 MSRP) = 2070 SUPER * 2070-like performance for $399 MSRP (vs 2070's $499 MSRP) = 2060 SUPER 2060 regular down to $349 MSRP isn't bad ($50 price drop), but it isn't necessarily rocking my socks off like the other two. That said, given they can price drop less as the initial price goes down, I guess -$200, -$100, -$50 makes sense (they probably cannot sell 2060 at $299 and make profit OR AMD is once again not competitive to get them to even if they DO make profit at the price).
@xBINARYGODx
@xBINARYGODx 5 лет назад
BTW - according to multiple benches I have seen, the standard OC that the EVGA tool gives you (which is generally conservative compared to what you probably can do on your own, assuming you can go higher at all, which is usually the case) makes this especially true, and you can ignore the "basically" I used in the op.

Please do keep in mind that the 80 class cards only started to reach 700$ when pascal launched. And that the 1070 brought 980ti performance for around 400$. Now the 2070s is similarly just reaching the old 1080ti but at a higher price point. These cards should not rock your socks off. The 2070/2080 were terrible value and completely devoid of any advancement in price/perf. This is just a slight improvement and still a lackluster improvement on top of pascal. You have to be more critical, Nvidia keeps on raising prices and this super launch is exactly the type of shit they're pulling to mask their terrible prices. Oh and btw, the 2080ti costs around 300$ to manufacture. You can scale that down to the 2060 if ya want:)

17:50 "It's a good deal". It's utterly maddening to hear someone of Rich's standing in the community make such an asinine statement. By all means, let's break down the performance of these cards in detail. It's what DF does best. But the value proposition for the RTX series has been, and continues to be horrendous. Nvidia (and now AMD as well) are trying to convince pc gamers that $500-$600 for a mid range card should be the new normal, despite this generation being one of the smallest upgrades we've ever had. And the endless fawning over RT by DF won't convince anyone that's actually seen RT in games to buy these overpriced cards. PC gaming is in serious danger of suffering a major contraction in size if the community embraces this new generation of cards. Look at the used market instead of buying an overpriced, underperforming card from Nvidia or AMD. You can get GTX 1080's and Vega 56/64's for dirt cheap on the used market. Don't reward these people by buying their new cards when they're charging you more for less. A shame to see DF making the absurd statement that any of these cards are a "good deal".

Getting tired of _rebuying the car for better tires at a higher price_ so to speak. RT core-only cards (RPUs?), like cards for Physx or sound, but now dedicated to lighting, would be great to have - but perhaps that isnt _technically_ possible. Custom rasterizing perf next to custom RTing perf would give consumers more options and be cheaper for companies to mfgr and gamble with for those who dont care about RTing so much, but absolutely want rasterizing to improve.
