Disappointed. RTX cards are just Pascal refreshed with RT and Tensor cores. Might get second hand cards instead, for around the same performance without RT and a lot less power draw.

@Michael11794 6 лет назад
Hey man!! You know, I'm not completely sold on the idea that gamers NEED ray tracing effects either. However, if game developers are able to add lighting sources and then just let the RT cores work their magic, we should see more optimizations in other areas since they wont be wasting their time with mapping the light and shadows. This should also take a huge strain off the CUDA and Tensor cores, allowing GPUs to pump out more frames per second. I do wish they have more classical representations of performance as well, but thats what youtube is for right?? Can't wait to see the benchmarks!

Shorty You dont need these cards to run on ultra, not even close. Plus, your console's graphics are about medium settings at best compared to the resolutions+fps on PC's. I am using a 770GTX and still running games over console performance (not even close) and this card is over half a decade old. Then you get to cost of games, i literally pay less than half of what console games cost. I have a PS4 for the exclusives such as Uncharted, but on shared games the PC version absolutely wrecks the console versions.

Speak for yourself, I'd gladly pay 1200-1500 for a new rig that will last me 4-8 years lol I already save around that much in video games over it's lifetime anyways. (I own over 100 games on steam, take a guess how much I saved with 50%+ discounts vs console gaming :P) You can grab a decent i5 from this gen and a 1070 ti and be good for the next 5+ years in terms of gaming, so long as you aren't pushing to play 4k/60fps, in which case, grab a 1080ti and you'll be fine for 5+ years.

As a hardware enthusiast going back to 1970, I have to agree with @azazelleblack's take on things. This is not to say, however, that I don't share some of the same concerns you bring up in your video. For the sake of brevity, I'll do a sort of TL; DR: version of my impressions. 1. The tech advancement presented by Nvidia is a tremendous leap forward, like the move from black and white photos to color. I foresee future gamers expecting ray-tracing the way today's gamers expect patches. 2. For now, however, there is almost no benefit to it. Today's games do not use ray-tracing, and people generally don't miss what they haven't experienced. 3. Nvidia really bungled the pricing, this time. No matter how advanced your tech is, widespread adoption requires widespread availability, and that requires affordability. Computer history is littered with examples of tech being killed by overpricing.

@OrionMagus
@OrionMagus 6 лет назад
Maybe for a future generation. As it stands now, anyone with a 10 series nvidia card is going to struggle with games using ray tracing, so basically they are killing any older cards even their own. I think this will hurt mass adoption as gaming devs won't want to only sell games to the small market segment that uses 20 series cards and most games will run just fine without ray tracing. The caveat here is if the next console generation adopts graphic cards that can run ray tracing effectively, then it will become a standard for game development.

I cannot understand the argument that if something is fx 30% faster its suppose to cost 30% more. It makes sense within current gen of products.. etc 1070-1080-1080ti and so on.. but not from current gen to next gen aka 1080 to 2080.. if we follow this logic the 7080ti will cost around 4 grand.. how does that make sense?
@UFDTech
@UFDTech 6 лет назад
It doesn't. But it's the only way the prices would be even slightly justifiable, which they're not.
@matrixfull
@matrixfull 6 лет назад
Doesn't make sense that % of cost would follow the % of performane in 1:1 ratio. But it's totally reasonable to believe ratio would be a bit closer to improved performance than it appears to be for now. 60% bump in price for judging by the eye 20% better performance + better light handling ..so 25% ish better in total...yeah I don't know man. should be like 30-35% bump in price not 60%. That'd be about 250 less than it is now so 950 $ let's say 1000 $. But 1000 would be absolute maximum stretch you could go away with and still make it somewhat reasonable. 1200? Are you kidding me...it's not just graphic card that we need to buy; it's CPU, RAM; SSD; motherboard etc... But yeah MSRP for 1080ti is 700$ and 2080ti is 1200$ ..so 500$ so...that's 60% increase in price. Imagine game being remastered and release at 60% more price than original? Madness. Ofc this is different but yeah still: price gain should be as much as performance gain + 10- 15% . That'd reasonable. We'll see benchmarks in month though...if 2080ti manage to get at least 40% more performance than 1080ti it is resonable-ish.

Whit Vram prices keeping hi its no wonder it cost this. Sadly im to disapointed by way they basicli decided THIS IS BETTER FOR YOU SHUT UP. But price is right im dont want it be right but it is..... But again from theyr perspective they did this same thing whit 8800 cuda cores. Forced new tech on us whit massive price spike. And look how it got better. I agree and disagree with you. I am all for new technology and anything that improves realism in games, which is what ray tracing does. It also makes it easier for developers to add realistic lighting and shadows to their games, since they will become realistic without any real effort. But do we, as consumers, need it right now? No. However, if ray tracing is the future, it has to be implemented at some point, and from a marketing viewpoint, now is a pretty good time to do it for Nvidia while they have a performance lead over AMD. The prices, though, are just insane.

Yes Ray tracing is used in developing realistic Hollywood graphics, but those can only be achieved in consumers as rendered graphics, unlike game engines which have great graphics but not as close as what Hollywood has, with these new cards game engines will have more realistic graphics and more optimized games... these are early features on new games, and they'll get better as developers will figure out how to implement it better on their games... you're right in time, like physx, it will be eventually become better and cheaper for consumers, and yes I'm that excited :) *sorry for my bad english but hope you get my point
@xjerrylee22x

I'm excited for ray tracing in the future, but if I can barely get 60 fps at 1080p, there's no longevity for the card and with that price I'd want it to last for a long time. Maybe in the next couple releases they'll have the technology down better, I'm looking at the next releases, not this one.

If you don't have a background in 3d your probably don't think so, but they are and got me super excited. metasprite So its better to make a GPU dedicated to making lighting look better and that devs HAVE to implement RTX into their games to actually make it usable, than to make more powerful GPUs that can play pretty much any PC game at a higher resolution with higher graphics settings and at a higher fps. Dont you remember nvidia hairworks and physx? Almost no games supported it and the ones that did made it unavailable to amd users. So even if all of the future games have RTX support, they will still have non RTX support for every other GPU that doesnt support it.

@circletech7745
@circletech7745 6 лет назад
The thing with CPUs and GPUs is you can usually reliably predict that you will get more FPS in games per dollar every few years. Nvidia seems to be just raising the price in accordance with the performance compared to last years card. For example, the GTX 970 should perform better than the GTX 770 + maybe 3% for inflation. Meaning if you GTX 770 cost $300 when it was released, the GTX 970 should give you more FPS per dollar in games while still costing $310 after accounting for inflation. The same should be with next generation. The GTX 1070 should have cost $310 + 3% for inflation, making it cost $320 while still providing more performance per dollar than the previous generation, the GTX 970. Instead nvidia seems to be directly scaling performance with last years model + more money according to last years performance per dollar, meaning that we are seeing fewer and fewer performance per dollar gains every year even if the cards themselves are getting faster. Now this can easily be solved by not buying their new cards and holding onto your older hardware. Nvidia is not forcing you to buy their product, and we can easily live without video cards. You can also choose to simply purchase a game with lower system requirements or do something else with your life instead of gaming.

Or a mildy uninformed youtuber that isn't seeing the full scope of ray tracing. It's a fundamental lighting algorithm that's been used for years to produce highly accurate lighting in pre-rendered applications. I have no doubt ray tracing is the direction real time rendering will go, just as it is the way it has went for pre-rendered. Though, the initial transition and adoption will be rough.
@xero1982
@xero1982 6 лет назад
I agree jarrod. The initial adoption for gaming may be slow, but like always, there's so much narrow minded opinions on this. Gaming isn't the only application for GPUs. These cards will be huge for the CGI rendering market, 10 times faster than a 1080Ti under that use. These cards are cheap from that POV, and will be adopted by many in that business. Yes it's ridiculously expensive from a gaming perspective, but it's a brand new platform, it's to be expected! This video is so ill-informed and full or irrelevant arguments. "Most people turn off shadows", while reviewing the pinnacle of graphical rendering? Really?? If you're trying to become a credible "tech" channel, these rants will hold you back all the way.
@ADreamPainter
@ADreamPainter 6 лет назад
As someone who is more into game development, I have a different perspective on the conference. Perhaps from a consumer's perspective the information presented was confusing, but from a developer's perspective I am quite blown away by the conference and the advancements of technology. Putting some of the points about misinformation about pricing, aside let me break down a few key takeaways I got from the conference. 1) Shadows and Lights : In the video he complains about so much focus on shadows and says, we will "just want to turn them off anyway." I feel this expresses a fundamental misunderstanding of the technology. Once ray tracing is enabled, there will be no "Turning shadows on and off" option. The reason why, is because all light is simulated accurately as if it were in real life. All of the effects and tricks developers have been using to simulate realistic lighting conditions are made obsolete. This is a Giant leap in technological abilities. 2) AI rendering: One of the significant leaps is that we are using AI to upgrade the graphic resolution. This would mean that a card could render an image at 1080p and upscale it to 4k, and increase the graphic detail. Also it will eliminate the need for traditional Anti Aliasing. All of the pixel edges again would be handled by Artificial Intelligence. This would result in a significant increase in efficiency for running modern games on these cards. 3) Art design for developers: This is significant, because many games use textures and art to simulate the lighting conditions in games to make them look ray-traced. Often environments have what is called "baked lighting" applied to them. That is all of the lighting is pre-calcuated and applied to all of the objects as a texture. This process currently can take 20 minutes or more for a developer's machine to perform this operation. All of these environments, which he is saying do not look much better are using ray-traced lighting, which mean although they do not look much better, they are no longer using light maps and other tricks to give it the appearance of using ray-tracing. In conclusion: What we see here is a significant leap in GPU technology. For consumers, the improvements are not so obvious, because developers have been doing many tricks throughout the years to simulate the effects of ray tracing on rasterized environments. It is also likely the games showcased have not been optimized for ray-tracing, and are using art assets that were designed for more rasterized graphics. Once we see games designed exclusively for ray-traced cards we will see the generational leap from this new technology. I will say that this technology is worth all of the hype, yet it may not be obvious right now for most consumers, and we will have to wait until some of the new games come out for us to see first hand what all of the hype is about.

As a 3D artist I understand how insanely performance intensive raytracing is and how important it is for the future of computer graphics. It's not easy to explain to normal gamer plebs but it is in fact a big deal. It is a big leap and I am more excited about these cards than I was about Pascal. Raytracing is easy to demonstrate with shadows and reflections but it's only a small part of the way we can use it's application. This might change the way we play games because of Ai and collision in games beyond our wildest dreams because we will be finally be able to raytrace our real-time data instead of faking everything. Games will stop feeling like games and will start feeling very plausible. This will have a profound effect on stealth games, sports games, racing games,... about everything will change because of this new super power devs can now use. This tech is soooooooo vastly different that developers first have to completely change the way we make games in order to fully exploit and use this tech. This is why the demo's feel so bare and uninteresting. There was no reason to invest development time in this tech before because we simply didn't have this brute Force raytraced computing power. In the past I have waited 5 hours for my PC to render out 1 raytraced image on the CPU. Now I can do 60 in 1 second. Let that sink in. This power is truly futuristic computing power. We are living in the future.

it's a big deal alright but making comparisons between renders with high numbers of samples, vs a lower sample denoised one is apples to oranges (that's what they're basically doing with the AI), it wil never be fair. and i don't think we need more proprietary bullshit either, as we know it right now, only DX12 supports it, so most professional rendering software is off the table for real time ray tracing, as they use openGL we may still be able to tap into it via cuda for offline rendering though...

I'm trying my best not to make this a personal attack, but I really don't think you understand. Jensen isn't hyping his product. HE IS HYPED. This is his Steve Jobs iPhone moment. Or his Jobs iPad moment. For consumer-grade computer graphics (i.e. gaming), this is one of the biggest leaps forward probably since the programmable shader, or maybe even the entire genesis of parallelized graphics acceleration. Imagine a problem that people told you could not be solved because it's just too hard computationally, like cracking 128-bit encryption. Ten years later, you've conquered what everyone said was impossible, and brought it to market because your product stood at the crossroads of several critical computing technologies (e.g. Deep Learning). Over time, you've built an incredibly talented team that realized they could use these technologies to not only solve that problem, but blow it out of the water. That's Jensen in this video. He's pumping his fist, spiking the football, doing a victory lap because he solved real-time ray-tracing, and he is about to earn his fifth championship ring. Now, there are some issues. Is the visual fidelity improvement big enough to draw a lot of gamers to upgrade their graphics? Time will tell, and we'll see with the numbers, but over time, people will start to see their friends running RTX cards and either decide that it's great or not. Eventually, within a year or three, I guarantee the majority of gamers will have moved over to a card with RTX-level technology, prices will go down as they iterate with this new tech. Also, I imagine Sony and Microsoft have been holding off their 5th gen consoles for this graphics technology, as this is likely to be one of the key tech differentiators to get people to upgrade their consoles. So, yeah, this is a big fricking deal, and it's understandable that a lot of people don't get it yet. One thing on which I do agree with you is that it's advisable to understand exactly what you'll be getting with a founder's edition card versus waiting until the preorder hype passes. NVIDIA's website is completely lacking in any technical specs for the initial product, which is a big WTF. Lastly, it will be tricky to compare GTX and RTX card performance. It's kind of like comparing the dialing performance of a traditional mobile phone and a smartphone. Okay the smart phone isn't much faster, but what about all the things the smartphone does that the dumbphone doesn't?

When Nvidia demos Tomb Raider at 1080p BELOW 60fps due to ray-tracing, and thinks we're supposed to be excited, they're drinking their own Koolaid. I'll be only paying attention to the benchmarks on non-ray tracing. The majority of all gamers that care about performance are turning off the HDR, ray tracing, MSAA, etc. When little Jimmy with his 1080TI has ray tracing turned off and sees you hiding in the corner or bushes you think is hidden because of the darkness provided by ray tracing's realistic lighting effects, it won't matter how pretty it is because you're already dead. Ray tracing is an amazing technology, but I think they're missing the target audience here. They need to be prioritizing performance first and special features second. If non-ray tracing performance is only providing a 10-20% increase over 1080TI, then I'm 100% out on this generation. Especially for the ridiculous touted prices.

The thing is that a lot of people doesn't know what it takes to have reflections like this so I think that's why Nvidia spent a lot of time explaining what this tech is aiming to. There're a lot of tricks and tweaks to fake the bounce of light in game and it's a real pain to set if you want to achieve really nice reflections. I couldn't imagine to have that kind of tech before like 10 years. Off course this tech isn't day&night but its a HUGE step forward for more realism in real time engines. Sure the examples aren't very explicit but when you see the limitations of SSR (screen space reflections) or cubemaps and light probes it's heaven for lighting artists. This said I agree on not buying them just for the sake of having realistic reflections for your games. But for professionals working in the industry like me, this was like some dream come true and I think that I'll get one later to help speed up my workflow.

6 to 7 times the performance in ray tracing applications. that isnt 6-7 times the performance in gaming. i'd only expect about a 20-25% gain in normal gaming performance gain over a 1080ti. 2080ti 14 TFLOPS of FP32 vs 1080ti 11.3 TFLOPS of FP32 the current standard to compare different GPUs. that is roughly a 20% gain in TFLOPS of FP32 over last generation. So with Ray Tracing turned off i'm only expecting that 20% gain in gaming performance. Tensor cores and Ray Tracing is this generations PhysX.

It feels like a Volta chip using GDDR6 over being a new architecture. Almost like they had a ton of these very big, very expensive Volta chips and decided to 'gamify' them and came up with pseudo ray-tracing as the application. Here's a comparison between the 2080 and 1080 using theoretical numbers with the new 2080 having..: - 40% increase in memory bandwidth - 13% increase in FP32 shader performance - 13% increase in texture fill rate - 4% decrease in pixel fill rate - 19% higher TDP It seems they've gone for a marginal boost to shader performance at the expense of fill rate. That's the direction AMD took with Vega. It hurt them in older generation games but they do very well in newer engines/APIs. NVIDIA has not been as aggressive so that small drop in pixel fill rate should mean they remain the fastest card for older games and should perform better in more modern titles too. There are some other tricks such as rapid-packed math open to them now but I'd imagine we see no more than a 15-20% performance increase in the usual suite of titles people use for benchmarking. (with an equal increase in power consumption). They have moved to a 12-nm process (same as Volta) vs pascal's 16-nm which increases power efficiency and lets you add transistors but much of those transistors are dedicated to tensor cores which will, at least initially, go mostly unused. Fully half the die space on a big expensive chip is dedicated to these deep learning related systems which is a big gamble for NVIDIA if they go unused. Some leaks have suggested the 2080 will be 50% faster than a 1080 but I don't see how that's possible. I'm only going on the information that's just now been officially released and that may not tell the whole story. I'm assuming the claims of big performance increases are related only to ray-tracing where dedicated hardware exists on the new card and that's perhaps why there was zero boasting about game benchmarks in the release. For fun here's a comparison between the 2080 and Vega 64 using paper numbers: - 7% lower memory bandwidth - 20% lower fp32 shader performance - 20% lower texture fill rate - 11% increase in pixel fill rate - 27% lower TDP So remember that bit about the trade off in pixel fill rate vs shader performance? That was AMD's strategy but they had to wait for developers to catch up. Nobody was impressed with performance in existing games at the time of release but now both the Vega 56 and Vega 64 beat the 1080 in newer games like Far Cry 5 and Wolfenstien 2. The boosts to the 2080 should mean NVIDIA can match or just overtake Vega when it comes to these newer titles and maybe that's the point of the release. It occurs to me another reason to suspect we've just got Volta chips here is the lack of HDMI 2.1 support. That spec was finalized a year ago and it was in the works since Jan 2017. Why would a new architecture not support a new standard?

I agree with most of your points but I am gonna have to disagree with you about the shadow improvements that you talk about at 9:37. I think you missed the entire point of ray-tracing and the hybrid rendering technique that NVIDIA is using. Shadow will NOT cost MORE performance to render with RTX on. It will cost LESS because the GPU will off-load the heavy performance hitters such as global illumination, real-time reflections and dynamic shadows to the RT Core of the GPU processor. So instead of rasterizing these effects, the normal way, they will instead be ray-traced so that the rasterization part of the GPU has more resources to render the more important stuff. Kind of like how game performance went up when developers figured out that they could off-load certain workloads to the GPU instead of the CPU because the GPU does it 10x faster.

That will revolutionise extremely complex mathematical calculations, it's going to make physical simulations a blast! Other than that, they showed some really impressive machine learning achievements, but the crowd was dead silent because they want games. This is all marketed towards gamers, which is just plain wrong. Gamers don't care about all this, developers do a pretty good job at faking shadows, lighting and reflections, so why would they want real shadows and lighting? I guess unless you're an animator/game developer, you wouldn't understand why real-time raytracing is such a big deal. But generally, this is technology that was only capable of being rendered on feature films or shows. Because of the amount of time it took for one frame to correctly show what was ergonomically intended. Long story short is that you will now see in the coming years games that are extremely realistic to how things are naturally portrayed in real life.

Guys, Ray-tracing is not for gamers. It's for developers. They can finally put their bump maps and fake lights to rest, and let actual physical simulation of light do the work for them. Developers can perhaps invest less time into thinking how light interacts with their scenes and focus on other things like optimization or squashing bugs. However, I think this "innovation" from Nvidia seems to be quite devious. Yes, it will push the visual quality of games. Yes, it will make life easier for developers. But as a first-gen product, the RTX series seems like more of a money-making machine than its predecessors. In order to implement ray-tracing, they had to redesign the architecture from scratch, which is expensive. If competitors like AMD and Intel don't adopt this new RT paradigm, they will either a) steer the market away from ray-tracing tech, or b) be at a MASSIVE performance disadvantage in future games that will most likely adopt ray-tracing. We're not sure about Turing's performance gains over the 10 series in games that do not use ray-tracing, since it's designed for ray-tracing. In summary, Nvidia just launched a new lighting paradigm in games. To do this, they made a completely new architecture (expensive) and worked with developers to implement this technology in their games (gives Nvidia an unfair advantage). It's the perfect storm. They're innovating and pushing the envelope and are, at the same time, being extremely anti-consumer by jacking the prices up (rightfully so, because Turing is expensive to produce). Intel and AMD have a lot of catching up to do if games keep implementing ray-tracing.

IMHO the problem is scalability: Ray tracing is physically based so you can implement easily most visual effects just by knowing the laws governing them. While shader based render needs to be reinvented every time there's the need of a step up (like global illumination or subsurface scattering). Hardware can finally support real-time ray tracing so it just does not make any sense to keep using a technology that was developed because at the time GPUs just couldn't do real-time ray tracing... It just makes sense.

Looks OK in its infancy, but if it becomes the norm for games and they are able to utilize and optimize it, why not get the card that's built with the new techniques and technologies in mind? If Ray Tracing _doesn't_ take off for whatever reason, I'll still have a long-term work horse of a GPU. And I'm happy with that :)

ray tracing isnt just fancy shadows, its completly changing the way game engines handle light. Its the same technology used by render engines in films. This is so much better for devolpers to create much better looking games in general. Real time ray tracing is actually a big deal.

The lack of the competition from team RED made Nvidia treat gamers like idiots, he was talking gibberish to people to cover up the fact that the performance in gaming is a little to may be none improved at all, he was selling Ray Tracing like there is no tomorrow, to us gamers that’s just one feature in many we see every day when we go to advance video menu in games, we turn some down and some up to keep the FPS as high as possible. Did he ever mention FPS? I don’t think so, and that’s the only thing we care about Mr. Jensen Huang.

well...the rumor is, the reason they are releasing the 2080 ti is because the 2080 will barely beat or will be on par, with a 1080 ti. the normally release the 80 card then wait to drop the ti card to milk more money. so if they are charging $1200 it’s because the 2080 ti is the only way to really beat a 1080 ti and without competition from amd, suckers will pay that premium. truth is, when amd has cards that competed and even beat nvidia, nvidia mindshare kept people buying their crap and stopped people buying amd, the 480/580 is on par with the 1060 yet the 1060 way out sold them. if you can get an amd card that is on par with nvidia, you who are reading this, you should buy amd. we need amd to make money to compete with nvidia to bring competition and drop the prices.

sigh no the RTX 2080Ti is just the Titan renamed cause people crid about the Titan being targeted at gamers when the Titan and Ti cards are the same more or less with one having a day 1 launch release premium and the other coming out 8+ months later for gamers and nearly 50% the price.... LTT say maybe the 2080 wasn't faster than the 1080Ti and so they are releasing the 2080Ti ... and it becomes a rumor huh?

Fatou Jallow -- It wasn't. The RX580 was/is much more future-proof and better in most recent games compared to GTX1060. In fact, RX580 gave you even more value because you could simply grab a decent FreeSync monitor and enjoy variable-refresh-rate technology without having to pay a dime in premium. Can you can go shill elsewhere, kiddo.
@thorodin3631
@thorodin3631 6 лет назад
yes there is such a thing as future proofing. your need to wipe that up dude, your noob is showing. amd is much better at dx 12/vulkan than that 1060 is. the 1060 will beat it in most titles of dx 11, but that 480/580 beats that 1060 in most dx 12/ vulkan titles. the future definitely is not dx 11, and if you think that, you are a moron. so, no that 1060 does not beat the 480/580 and you are a moron if you think that.
@thorodin3631
@thorodin3631 6 лет назад
wtf are you talking about noob? it is still future proofing because if a person was in the market for a 1060 or 480/580 and wanted to keep the card for several years and it lasting longer than the other, then the 480/580 was definitely the smarter buy. here is another thing to consider noob, ever hear of nvidia legacy drivers? Yeah, me either. i had an old ati 5750 that got driver updates until last year. the damned thing still can play all new games at 1080. i gave the card and my old system to my nephew who still plays new games on it. yeah, that is called future proofing because if you want something to last, then you have to buy smart. the 1060 won't last as long as the 480/580. not to mention, the amd cards have more vram. which is another thing that will make those cards last longer.

Of course 2080Ti is dedicated to professionnals. The price is aligned with TITAN cards. RTX is a usefull feature for devs and designers. It's just a plus for gamers.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that the ray-tracing algorithm has been out for years, but never real time. I totally agree that this ray-tracing stuff may not be the thing that the customers really care. but as a technical person in computer graphics, this is a revolution in CG and more specifically in gaming. I also agree that the graphics do not really look that much improved in the sense of visual effect, but FYI texture quality and particle simulation (fire and water) are also factors of visual quality. I personally think this technology is extremely impressive from a technical point of view. As there are still a lot of problems remained unsolved in the CG field, and one of them was real-time raytracing. Again, no offense, just an idea, and sorry for my bad English

I swear! Intel got complaisant with AMD not giving them any challenge and got face planted and kicked in the balls from Ryzen and Threadripper. Now Nvidia seems to follow in Intel's foot steps, and if by a miracle the GPU department of AMD pulls an other stunt like Ryzen now and face plant Nvidia...it would the end of the world.

It's funny. That first "RTX off" example looks like it simply has shadows turned off, even though quite high-quality shadows have already been possible for over a decade now. (Of course it might be that traditional shadow techniques are significantly _slower_ in this particular scene, but even if that's the case, that information is not conveyed through the demo. If it's a question of speed, a better demonstration would have been to have traditional shadows vs. raytraced shadows, and a FPS counter.)

They didnt show they are faster in normal games without ray tracing because the % faster is probably only in ray tracing LOL. The 2080 ti in my country is 833 USD more expensive than a 1080 ti. DON'T SUPPORT THIS SHIT, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T BUY THEM.

if I read correctly, didn't the RTX 2080TI have worser specs than the 1080ti in some things? like base and boost clock for example? will the 1080ti perform better in gaming with higher fps? I'm confused...I dont want a rendering card, I WANT A DAMN GAMING CARD! not shadows not light. PURE FPS GAMING!
@PragmaticTornado
@PragmaticTornado 6 лет назад
You have to look at the core count, not just the core clock speed.. 1080Ti has 3584 cuda cores and a base clock speed of 1480. 2080Ti has 4352 cuda cores and a base clock speed of 1350. The differences on paper aren't astronomical, but definitely in the 2080Ti's favor. The 2080Ti also has GDDR6 memory, giving it a significantly higher bandwidth. At any rate, I wouldn't pre-order a 2080Ti if you already have a 1080Ti (I would wait for benchmarks). I'm going from a standard 1080 myself to a 2080Ti, so I should get a nice boost. Can't wait :)
