my man, just be careful when they offer you sambal. a real signature sambal can be really spicy for people outside indonesia. and yes, the hot and spicy is very different than you used to taste in indian or any place around the world. 😂
Few corrections: 1. PAPEDA It is an Indonesian sago congee made from sago starch (not tapioca) which is considered as a staple food for and is originally from the indigenous people in eastern Indonesia. Sago and Tapioca may appear identical, but they're sourced quite differently: -Tapioca comes from cassavas an edibles root looks like sweet potatoes and taro (in some South American countries the root is actually called tapioca) -Sago is made from the pith of the sago palm 2. IKAN KUAH KUNING It’s a fish soup with yellow broth, not a fish curry. In Indonesia the basic mixed herbs for yellow curry is not only using lot of turmeric also a mixed of cumin, candlenuts, coriander, bay leaf, and coconut milk. Some curry dishes also use curry leaves. But Ikan Kuah Kuning or Fish Soup with yellow broth uses turmeric without coconut milk, cumin, candlenuts, coriander, and bay leaf. It has thinner broth not creamy broth like curry and sometimes is added Kemangi leaves or lemon basil leaves. Papeda is always served with Ikan Kuah Kuning.
3. RENDANG VS KALIO The one that Ibu has on your video is called Kalio Sapi, means processed beef meat using thick coconut milk which is still brown and oily with some broth from the cooking process. While Rendang in the original one in West Sumatra is processed meat using the same herbs and spices as Kalio but is processed till the dish is dried no oily no broth. The one in your video, if referred to original Rendang in West Sumatra is called Kalio. Both Rendang and Kalio are originally from West Sumatra. Then as the Ibu sounds like she’s a Javanese origin, she also has Rujak Daging, the Kalio version of Java with javanese preferred spices and herbs.
4. SAMBAL or Indonesia hot sauces Indonesia has more than 40 different sambal accros the country. We have basic sambal called Sambal Bawang (hot sauce with mixed of chili peppers, shallot, and garlic based), Sambal Terasi (hot sauce with mixed of chilli peppers and shrimp paste), Sambal Tomat (hot sauce with mixed of chili peppers and fried tomato but no Terasi).
We Filipinos and the Indonesians have some similarity in language and in food. Tahu like you said, I saw tofu there. I recognized right away when you said tahu, because here in the Philippines taho is how we call it although we use taho as a breakfast thing. Made up of silken tofu(the liquidy type), tapioca pearls and brown sugar syrup. We call it tokwa when it's cooked in meals like tokwa't baboy(tofu and pork), or tofu sisig. Here we call water spinach kangkong. It is cooked in an adobo way but more on the sour side than salty. Or we simply eat it with sautéed shrimp paste. Woaaah! I never knew Indonesians have that round hard pastry with sesame seeds. We have that here too and it's called binangkal. Thick outer part but soft in the inside.
@@rohmatullailiyah7134 wow. I know a few others like coklat susu which is milk chocolate and one of two Filipino viands that Indonesians also have. But all you said now are all new to my ears. I didn't know there's a whole lot more.
you should check video that compare language like "How Similar are Tagalog and Indonesian" or even "Similarities Between Javanese and Ilokano" you'd be surprise how close our languages is
But Indonesian food is more cultural. Tofu in the Philippines is not as common or cultural as it is in Indonesia. Tofu Sisig is one example of how Filipino has no culture. Tofu Sisig is a joke.
Ternyata orang barat budaya terima kasih nya juga bagus. Habis makan dia terima kasih lagi satu satu 😊 It turns out that people in western culture thank you too well. After eating he thanked again one by one 😊
Totally agree with you, Bakso is really good for hang over meal and Indonesian eats bakso all year round thru the hot day for lunch or comfort food for dinner after long rainy day.
Wow, I really enjoyed your RU-vid video "NY Indonesian Food Bazaar 🇮🇩 | Trying Indonesian Food in Queens"! I was fascinated by the diversity of Indonesian cuisine that you showcased and loved seeing you explore so many different dishes. I think this is such an important content to create because Indonesian food has so many different flavors and aromas that are worth sharing with the world. Additionally, I feel that this video could help introduce Indonesian food to people who have never tried it before, or even those who have never heard of it. Please keep creating amazing content like this, and I hope you get to explore more interesting Indonesian cuisine and share it with all of us!
I don't usually like bule with indonesian culinary content because it's so cliche but I really like you. Love the genuine appreciation and humbleness you showed. Hope someday we can hangout together in bali enjoy some pork satay and cans of bintang beer.
The Yellow Rice dish you eat in this video contains: 1. Nasi Kuning or the yellow rice made from plain rice cooked with coconut milk, turmeric and some basic herbs and salt a bit. 2. Rujak Daging Sapi or the cooked beef meat with Bumbu Rujak (Javanese red paste made from mixed herbs and spices). Looks like Rendang or Kalio but they all have different process and distinct flavours. 3. Telor Balado or the Minang style spicy cooked eggs. Balado is a type of hot, red and spicy paste (we call as Bumbu in bahasa Indonesia) from Minang cuisine in West Sumatra (similar origin like Rendang). The one you have is boiled egg cooked with Balado paste. In Indonesia we have many kind of Balado from beef to chicken and egg. 3. Sambal, looks like it’s Sambal Matang or cooked spicy sauce. 4. Tumis Kacang Panjang Tempe or sautéed yarlong beans with tempe. One of our common Indonesia dishes. Tumis Kacang Panjang or sautéed yardlong beans usually also can be cooked with chicken liver and gizzard, potato, chicken meat, sliced beef. 5. Serundeng Kelapa or the roasted grated coconut. We have few kinds of Serundeng but it is a side dish or condiment served to accompany rice. Very common in Java and Bali.
The coconut dishes are really rich because Indonesians do not COMPROMISE. Though Indonesia has corruption, it doesn't show in how their food. Indonesia has lots of spices and ingridients that are luxury in the Philippines. Curry and Soybeans are abundant in Indonesia.
you're awesome man, the way you give compliment to the seller is just too sweet... you're very welcome if you have a time and want to visit indonesia... stay healthy...
did u just explain to people that if they can handle u then, they would be able to live a good life in indonesia ? right ? cuz ur name is "spicy" yk.. ba dum tss
Try some fresh 'kua manta' its very fresh, good for extra mood and stamina. Try to original making by yourself: fresh fish grilled, still very hot from grilled, flush with hot water mixed with garlic salt & MSG, red onion sliced & leek. Also try to crush grilled fish after and don't forget to add sliced hot chili👌 eat w/ sweet potato. Taminyami🤤
Cempedak is "fragrant jack fruit" usually for sweet taste and unique fragrance food. For taste of snack or cake even on some drinks, combine with cendol "cempedak" is good 👍. Cokelat is chocolate 😮 in that case, i believe chocolate bun. What else ?? That "telur balado" literally means egg with sambal. First boiled egg and sauteed with "tomato sambal".
Thanks bro sudah makan 🍜 makanan Indonesia.. Coba rendang cilor seblak bakso.. Itu nasi kuning buat sarapan pagi 😁 Bakso enaknya pake kecap pake saus pake sambal cabe
Its called lemper the food that like suman...but i know suman was sweet. This one is savory food...kue basah we called in indonesia... Inside sometimes beefmeat. Sometimes just carrot and potato

dimana mana orang indonesia tetap sama. pelanggan ditinggal ngerumpi - sebagai customer kadang merasa gimana gitu lho - orang kasih rejeki kok malah dicuekin
Before eating, stir the meatballs first, so that the sauce is mixed with the chili sauce. In Indonesia, soup is stirred before eating it to mix it, so the sauce becomes more savory
Hey Man, nice video. Just a little tips to enjoy Indonesian food. U should mix a balance portion between the protein, vegetable and the rice in a spoon. And don't mix 2 protein. In one swoop. That's all. Waiting for ur next videos.
I suggest you to try Indonesian Nasi Goreng which is better served along with cold sweet tea and asked the sunny side up egg (telur ceplok we called it) to be cook half done and shrimp chips (Kerupuk Udang) and Emping ( i don't know what you called emping there 😂) Btw, Gemblong is Coconut cake with brown sugar on it, u should try it too mate..
oh yeah rendang is delicious but the cooking process takes a lot of time because you have to simmer it until there is no more water while you're cooking it (process could take hours or even overnight)
Dude, you need to go to the mainland. Taste the real deal of Indonesian cuisines. For example; the rendang should be darker and dryer than that, taste waaaay better. I promise you. Go there, experience everything! We’ll wait for your next videos about it. Have fun, brother.
So exciting seing your content, you have vast knowledge of Indonesian food already. Love how you appreciate every single taste. Though surprise you eat the egg balado in whole 😂 we usualy each every sides little by little so the rice would not eat alone.
As an Indonesian, if I eat a bowl of meatballs and the broth, I will add colored chili sauce Orange which is made from orange cayenne pepper I can pour up to 6 spoons of that chili sauce and I'm usually not spicy Most Indonesians like that eating spicy is common here. Thank you, bro, for wanting to eat Indonesian food, please come to Indonesia, come here to Bromo, East Java

Indonesia & Philipine is a completely different country, while throughout Indonesia which has 17,000 islands with 27 provinces alone ( as big as Europe), each of them has a different style of their special food & culinary culture. They said even if you shift your bum just a little, we already speak in our different regional languages even though all of them are unified in one Indonesian National language ; Bahasa Indonesia.
@@specialc8142es, 4 new provinces in Papua: 1. Papua Barat Daya (pecahan prov. Papua Barat) 2. Tiga pecahan provinsi Papua: Provinsi Papua Selatan, Provinsi Papua Tengah, Provinsi Papua Pegunungan
Bakso is actually from java island. Most bakso vendors is Javanese who can make Bakso professionally. Even if you go to Sumatra island, usually the javanese who sell/make it.
I know cuz it's in america the foods gonna be more expensive even if it's indonesian food (considering the price there is much much higher). But my good, as someone living in in indonesian, it still baffles me how a meatballs (bakso) is 13 dollars. Cuz here, it's varied between 10.000 rupiah (for really cheap ones) up to 30.000 for the medium priced one (so about 1 or 2 dollars)
