The "WE WANT SAPP!" chant followed by the completely dry incantation of Tagliabue's announcement of Kyle Brady will never not be the funniest thing ever
There have been a ton of hysterical moments in draft history. The announcement of Roger Vick, with the "OH NO!" cry for help from a fan in the background, has to be the funniest ever
Here we are years later and now it's "Everyone said that if Haskins or Allen were there at 6 they'd take Allen or Haskins. Obviously the Giants know something the people up here don't."
@@BridgeEntertainment2001 oh normal people who like winning. Nothings wrong in my life. They’re the most obnoxious pushy self loathing fans on the planet. Do you live under a rock or wine thing? Get a life dude!
+Jason Sputnik There's a clear hint of a smile before announcing Jeff Lageman, too. He'd probably have retired five years earlier if not for the sick pleasure the Jets' picks gave him.
@@Salvatore1268 actually he only played LB his rookie season, then got position changed and played defensive end for the rest of his career. He was average at best.
Anyone else come back to this every year on draft day? The Ron Jeremy look-alike talking about Marino, the “oh no!” after “fullback…”, the howling after “Jeff Lageman”, the guy with the glasses who starts gesturing wildly like “why?” after “Johnny Mitchell”, the general reaction to Kyle Brady after “we want Sapp!”…. It never. Gets. Old.
It’s a tradition to come back to this every single draft week. They should update this to include Gholston, Sanchez, Milliner, Pryor, Lee, Hackenberg, and Darnold
I love it when the commissioner was smiling when he said quarterback, and everyone thought it was Marino. Hell he even was giggling when he got the card.
Brian Cronauer Believe it or not the guy with the mustache who said that, Mike Eisenberg, was one of the foremost NFL Draft experts at the time, more well-known than Mel Kiper
Marino is the forgotten QB because he didn't win a championship. The regular season is useless and that's where he was good. Just like Alexander Ovechkin.
Pete Rozell was the original troll. I was cracking up when he would state the qb and hold off for a sec stating the name. Lmao, he def loved interacting w the fans.
Freeman McNeil had a pretty good 12 season NFL career as a Jet ✈️ He had over 8,000 rushing yards He had 200 rushing yards and a touchdown pass in a 1982 playoff game against Cincinnati at Riverfront Stadium 🏟
The way Rozelle announced Jeff Lageman in 89 was gold. I think the NFL Draft should have Statler and Waldorf with Jets jerseys up in the balcony booing the picks.
Roger B - Kyle Brady wouldn't have lasted until the 2nd round. Bill Bellichick when he was coaching the Browns in 95' is on record that he would have taken Brady with the #10 pick after the Jets pick. Even though history proved the Jets wrong for passing on Warren Sapp. Kyle Brady still had a solid 13 year NFL career. Sadly he had to leave NY for Jacksonville to do it.
wasn't Kotite the coach back then; i remember the reports with sapp coming out of miami about the drug reports, that coach dennis erickson had shelved.
@@gauravagochiya4218 except Mike Alstott was a 2nd round pick and all of the others mentioned were early 1st round, but yeah Edit: other than Roger Vick who I didn't originally see in the comments. Hes 1st rd too, and the joke in this vid
Yeah the guy screaming "OH NOOOOO" at they using a high 1st round pick on a fullback is just awesome. Average Joe Sixpack fan knew using one on a useless position like fullback was awful, but a room full of smart football lifers with the Jets thought it was brilliant. 2nd place is the guy at the end who just puts his head in his hands crushed and defeated at his team not drafting a franchise DT but instead another mediocre tight end. Sports!
Back then drafting a fullback in a the first round was not unheard of. They had more value then because it was a run dominant league and a dominant fullback meant the world to a team. Check out all the mock drafts leading up to that draft. They had that guy going as high as 15. This was also just a year removed from a fullback by the name of John Riggins leading Washington to a Superbowl victory.
@@georgemandler910 Back in the 70s fullbacks were guys like John Riggins and Earl Campbell. Today's game is much different. Most teams don't even have a fullback on the roster.
+Kyle 223 Ironically the success of See-Bass is illustrative of why the Raiders disintegrated after 2002 - Al Davis refused to figure out that speed guys were not what he needed; he needed FOOTBALL players, and he refused to let real football people run things. The promise shown of late indicates Mark Davis isn't as stupid as his old man became.
I'm fairly certain Al Davis was suffering from senility in his later years. At least that's been a theory tossed around my circle. (not Oakland fans, btw)
+Kyle 223 Seabass is still in the league. The worst pick the Raiders wasted in the first round was easily Robert Gallery at #2 (or Russle based on hype)
44YR Jets fan here!!! In a nutshell we are all Charlie Brown really believing that this time Lucy wont pull the football out from under us!! Lucy is the Jets organization selling us the usual offseason BS on how things are going to get better BUT we as fans have to be...wait for it...wait for it...PATIENT!!! So we as the fan(Charlie Brown) buy in and end up BELIEVING only to end up watching the same movie we've been seeing over and over for decades!! Hang tough Jets fans cause who the hell knows when its gonna get better!!! Stay loyal my friends
Ive been coming back to this clip for at least a decade, probably closer to 15 years. The beauty, the very soul of this clip is in the Roger Vick clip, when Berman himself groans like he's on his deathbed ... "Ohhhhhhh". The 2nd funniest thing CB ever said, after "You're with me, Leather".
+Carlos Guzman They can also add the Jets trading up for Sanchez. Taking Mike Nugent in the 2nd round in 2005. Still can't get over that one 11 years later.
Rozelle: New York Jets First Round Choice...Jeff Lageman... Berman...ohhhh!!!!... Rozelle: Linebacker Virginia Fans rolling over laughing except the stunned lone Jets Fan at 0:54 with arms up saying wtf?!?! Certainly this clip has become a draft day tradition. ESPN needs to make a newer version with the latest Jets draft blunders!!!
The reaction to the Lageman pick might be the funniest of them all. Why? Look at the comparison between Jets and Giants fans, especially that one guy in the Namath jersey. He's like "NOT AGAIN!"
And the Jets are still the Jets. Also note that time when the Jets played against the Dolphins they had a line of people stand and trip players THAT was bush league
It's fucked up how the fans knew the guys to pick more than the organization. This pre-dates youtube prospect highlights, social media, college all star game & combine coverage. And the fans STILL were more knowledgeable than the decision makers. Horrible.
