For everyone information, Glasgow Scotland has a Subway, it was designed by drunks for drunks. It is a complete circle, with 2 lines, inner and outer, every train stops at every station, and trains are 10 minutes max. 3 ticket options, single, return, all day. Simple.
@@Madwonk yeah, DC's subway system does eerily resemble a miniature version of a Moscow one, even the half circle that we had until we turned it into another loop couple of years ago.
@@phunk8607 I supervise eight people. If I can’t trust them enough to be honest about why they’re late, I probably can’t trust them enough to work for me at all.
Either AC is broken in the summer (you will bake alive) and/or there's a homeless dude that is particularly smelly and/or crazy and/or there is some kind of biohazard. Now, for the latter two, it generally has to be very bad. Once I rode in a car that had a screaming person in it and people just shuffled away to one side and left the person to scream at demons on the other side. So empty car... yeah no you wanna take a good hard look at it and consider if you are definitely sure.
@@lykou1821 they probably didn't want to risk getting lost again lol what if they took the subway back and ended up all the way in queens 😭 I can see how the subway maps would be hard to understand sometimes especially if you're a tourist without a phone
Freedom baby! In 'Murica it is either live free to drive everywhere you go....or death! Cheap, efficient, clean with comprehensive public transit is for bad, bad commies you hear me?
I lived in London for awhile, and the tube was constantly down every other week with strikes. It would constrict the city and make getting around near impossible in those days and it would happen quite a lot, it was a nightmare. The national rail is also extremely expensive, i knew people from the UK who flew to Spain instead of real within the Uk because it was cheaper to fly to Spain than it was to train inside the UK
As a New Yorker, who has been to London, I was floored how much better down the underground ground is and yet I still see some of your Londoners compliant about the tube.😂
For everyone’s information, Hong Kong’s metro system is actually really good compared with NYC, we have shops for food, convenient stores, atms and sometimes random stuff all in one station, FOR ALL STATIONS! Also, signs are everywhere, there are guidelines to what symbols mean on the maps and we have special “quiet carts” on the trains for people who don’t want to be disturbed. Fun fact, one of the metro lines has a first class cart on the trains!
Considering this video is sarcastic it's safe to say most other systems are better than NYC. I don't remember HK's system as I was last there in 2012... But I've been to enough countries in Europe and Asia to know there are better options than what we'll find in the US.
Surprised she didn’t mention the subway system in Russia especially in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. One of the best and most modern systems along with the fact that it looks like a museum when you walk in!
It is because your system is run by capitalists while the MTA is run by soviets. The MTA won't get rid of patronage, won't punish bad behavior by employees nor reward good behavior. The police will not clear the vagrants from the system nor enforce fare collection. The fare is the same regardless of if you go 2 stops or 20 crossing a river and riding a bus it's the same $3. Went to Jersey City with my 9 year old she noticed how different the PATH was from the subway, it was much cleaner, there were no vagrants, no urine stench in the station, everyone was paying their fare. Not that it is perfect but the Port Authority runs the PATH much better than the MTA runs the subway. The sad thing is that the NYC subway system structurally has an excellent design and could be one of the best systems in the world if run properly.
@@ChristochatBTW I encourage you to do so. TBH, I had my suspicions as well before I went there myself. Now I struggle to believe anything our mainstream media has to say about China.
@@abcdefg-oj5wnit is very different. There are too many lines too many delays too many things down etc. I have been in NY many times and I understand it very well but it’s just not a good system compared to the Tube or the T in Boston or the metro in DC
There are whole categories of stations in Tokyo called dungeon stations where you can genuinely get lost for an hour or 2 trying to find an exit out of 50.
Well it’s a city state so to put, Singapore, Singapore sounds funny but so does Singapore City, Singapore, maybe It would be better as Singapore, South East Asia. But same kinda thing
I'll take anime land any day over NYC omg not blind to the issues but i'd rather have peace and a clean train and system then fearing i'll die going to or from work!
Unfortunately I must agree with this. I'm from Brooklyn, and the *_Yamanote_* line puts us to shame! I can't remember the last weekend when we DIDN'T have a single train rerouted or the route shortened or shut down for track work. For several weekends over the past decade, we have had many.
I love transit in Zurich but there’s no subway here, just some through running commuter services (with lines running every 30 minutes. There are so many lines that theres a trajn every 3 minutes on the core section). And our tramway is great too.
I see and smell more human remains then i should to my stop is so dirty and was closed for a few days but cleaning it wasn't on the list to do..... thanks MTA! And our homeless issue is still very high and they sleep on the floor and on carts heck they'll take over a entire cart too!
Funny and sad too. I was also disappointed in the German train system recently, while traveling from Hamburg to Amsterdam to Munich and back to Hamburg. The number of delays were amazing. On the other hand, the subways and trains in China are modern, clean, comfortable, inexpensive and on time. Switzerland has great mass transit too.
@@carkawalakhatulistiwaIt’s very convenient running 24/7, but a metro system really needs proper maintenance that’s why shutting down for a few hours after midnight for maintenance is a must!!
am I the only one that noticed they put Singapore, Asia. While the rest of the list have city, country HAHA. probably couldn't figure out what country Singapore is in or what city is in Singapore
@@josu__ that's not my point, my point is that the rest of the list says City, Country. While Singapore's says Country, Continent. I'm highlighting how they likely couldn't figure out what City is in Singapore or what Country Singapore is.
You should see what European subway and train systems are like. Imagine having actual long distance rail connections between all major cities and towns in America.
You can blame big car/train for that one. There used to be a law that all train companies had to run passenger cars as well as freight. When cars came out everyone wanted to try the new thing and big train gave up on passengers and lobbied it out
Pass. If it’s 12 hours or less I don’t care to drive, any more that and I want to get there as fast as possible so I don’t have to be packed into a metal tube with strangers any longer than absolutely necessary.
it’s almost like non-americans don’t have a clue as to how big of a country the United States is. traveling by Amtrak from NYC directly to LA is insanity.
Reminds me of once when I said, "Don't get your knickers in a twist," to a coworker. I have a Southern accent. And, have having me repeat myself more slowly, he said that I ought not say that with my accent. 😅😂
The DC metro isn’t nearly as extensive as the NYC subway, but the stations are large, pretty, and normally well maintained. It’s also very east to use, even for tourists.
Doesn't run 24/7 though. When I moved to northern VA I took the metro into DC to avoid paying for parking, walked around the city hit a couple bars, then on my way back home I realized I couldn't get in the metro. Had to pay for an expensive ass Uber back to VA.
Don’t forget. Every time you inside the subway platform, there’s a lottery chance of someone random pushing you to the track 😂! The more you ride, the better your chances of winning!
Lmao this is hilarious! Although it isn’t nearly as extensive or convenient as the nyc subway, i really appreciate having the DC Metro. It’s pretty clean, the signs actually work, and the trains run on time usually. I do wish it covered more of the city though /:
Honestly the NYC subway really is one of the best networks in the world and the MTA has been putting a lot of work into improving its amenities over the last 20 years. It's come a LONG way since the 80's and 90's. Still has its quirks though lol
She didn’t include the London Underground in the last bit cos we’re so good that trains get cancelled and delayed all the time, as well as the workers are always on strike!
Being from England, after riding on the subway in NYC, I will never complain about the London Underground. It's so much nicer than the subway which looks so old and dirty, it was shocking.
Sarah The NYC Subway system in most times is reliable..As a Brooklynite who grew up in Gravesend and now lives in Sheepshead Bay have alternate ways to Coney Island and that is the B36 bus. When it comes to the Subway I miss the old trains such as the R40 modified R40 Slant R32 and others. The oldest trains in the Subway is the R46 still my favorite. and I grew up going on them ( F Train Avenue X) Now I take the B or Q at Sheepshead Bay. .
Want to address and make excuse for the other issues she brings up? Born and raised here too, its a dirty embarrassment of a metro system with old technology.
@FOH999 Going on the trains . A dirty embarrassment .Yes I agree when the train smells and is disgusting. Move to another car .The car number down and report it when you get off to a Station agent. Since I'm a train fan or railfan I take the model of the train down as well. If you see something report it.
@@julierowe1732 Probably are, too. Clean, efficient, safe, cheap. And, ornate. Tourist attractions in their own right. Moscow system is still expanding too. Massive.
@spencerburke idk, 5 lines and 72 stations isn't tiny. It's not the Moscow underground or the New York metro, sure, but it's not baby on the level of the Glasgow metro either
Portugal and budapest have some GREAT metro systems! They're cheap, decently clean and almost always on time. I would definitely recommend using them when visiting :>
As someone who lives in nyc… BLOWS MY MIND that people consider it “the greatest city on the planet” and “I love New York” is the motto. Or why they call it “the city that never sleeps” cus stuff actually closes so early it’s crazy.
As a New Yorker, it is the city that never sleeps. Go to any other place in America and stuff will close much earlier. I don’t know about overseas though
@@djk1563TBH cities like LA are much more deserving of the saying. NY does close early. In LA, you'll have traffic on the freeway at 3am because things are happening 24/7
Many ones in Europe like berlin or London is very old and is way better, like London subway who is older (160 years old) yet far better. Europe is just better ig
I’ve road the NYC metro for a long time, and used the DC metro, and thought they were really good and cool, and then I went to Seoul for a few weeks and had my mind blown at a well designed subway system, with good cleanliness and clearly defined routes.

I’ve been to NYC as a tourist many times, and the only scary experience I’ve ever had was when I got lost on the subway by going too far outbound at 2 am. I completely misread the map and had to wait at a desolate spot (pre-smartphone) for the trains to start again.
