I thought the desk on the window wall (initially) was perfect. Very Carrie Bradshaw. It’s all very lovely though and can be tweaked until you are happy with it - and then tweaked again and again
Idk if someone has already said this, but I would consider searching for or having someone make a bench to go over the radiator, that way you wouldn’t have to buy many chairs. Other than that, as you said, take your time, a space evolves over time, as we do. ❤
I'd maybe consider putting the desk in the second bedroom and making it an office? Idk, it seems a bit weird to have those two tables in one space, at least to me 🫢
I love this idea, but it's quite dark in the bedrooms/the view is just of a brick wall, so I don't think I would actually want to spend most of the day in there!
Love this vlog! So comforting! In terms of the desk, have you heard of the commender position? Basically means that you sit in the position that you have full control of the room. Having your back towards the doors and so on might let you feel uneasy when working.😂 I binge watched so many video from the channel “dear modern”, it really helped a lot with positioning the furniture for the room, for us, the office and the bedroom felt much better after we moved things around.
It looks nice for sure, maybe the plant is too big for the corner. It's feeling a bit too tight over there. I'm sure you can trim it and propagate it for friends. That's always a lovely gift! Overall, everything looks good, and the design feels cozy.
I loved how you had the desk at the beginning of the video, I'm not keen on the cheese plant, but that's just my personal taste. I'm a pillow huger too in bed and they look very squishy and hug-able.
i’m really enjoying your music taste. I discovered Adrianne from you, sadness as a gift is my favorite song at the moment. Would be curious if you’d make a video about your music tastes, how you discover new artists etc
You’ve been inspiring me for almost 7 years (I remember your first London flat, still love it!), so this is AGAIN the time to change something in my flat! Love the way you find things, everything fits in a nice way as always
yes i think the round table was perfect on its own, if she wanted more wooden feel, changing the top would be a good option and perhaps having a desk basket that she can quickly remove the stuff off and onto the floor at dinner time
The bedroom is looking really nice, excited to see the blinds up and the drawers are lovely. Not keen on the livingroom layout, i think when you had the low shelving unit across that back wall and the sofa on the wall facing the windows was the best fit, i feel like there is too many diff sections/levels going on in the room now, it feels a bit busy. and ps i wouldn't mind staying in the guestroom its sort of cozy, looking forward to seeing what you do with it, oh Pps you could split the plant up! my best friend has a massive one from her family home that got split around 6 siblings lol
Loved seeing more of the apartment and the soundtrack too! As you were moving the desk, there was one point where it was diagonal, blocking the corner and the aircon unit to an extent, and I loved that!
your place is so nice! n i love the reminder to go slowly with home design :-) i saw another comment talking about this based on dearmodern's videos about feng shui already so sorry if this is redundant! but, for the desk/workstation, what about putting it perpendicular to the window wall, right in between the two windows? or kind of lined up with the far window. that way you could make a little nook to work in - you would be in the command position, with a window to look out of to your right and you'd be facing the main space instead of having your back to the room/doors where all the energy comes into the living room. you would also have an opportunity for some nice like wall shelving or art behind the desk for a cute zoom background. you could then swap the bookshelf and couch, and free up that far corner where the fig is for your monstera! i think the fig could fit elsewhere easier since its smaller. lots of options! looking forward to seeing how else you change it up!
Change the big plant it takes up too much space, possible blinds for the drab windows and, yes maybe a smaller table... Love the sofa space, area. Could you do please do a spring fashion update on various pieces you like? If at all any Tropea recommendations? Would love if you did an updated Italy holiday tour, travels.
Love the content you make and your style. That discoloring on the wall and looks like some buckling of the paint too could be water damage. If you live on a top floor of a building, the roof could have a leak. With all the heavy rain NYC had in the few days, the water damage could have gotten worse. I would let your Super/Landlord take a look at the wall. Mold and damp will make you miserable. Best to treat it sooner than later.
Lizzy! Obsessed with Jessica Pratt’s music. Can’t stop listening to her songs since watching this video. Also, I was wondering where you got your ricepaper lamps from? Are these from Vitra? Online there are many similar versions, but they’re all a bit too white in my taste. Yours are the perfect shade. Let me know!
How you can afford to sustain two apartments in two of the worlds most expensive cities (and pretend it’s completely normal) blows my mind 🤯. Not to mention the cost of the furnishings…!
people make money and decide to spend it the way they like. you do know some people OWN whole buildings in those cities? like, its really not out of this world. work hard, have a bit of luck, find a niche, work more… get money - buy shit. 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Lizzy, nice chilled video as always, love just watching life as it is. It's lovely to see your NYC home come together so nicely. I was wondering, do you rent in NYC (which I assume most people do), or did you buy? I just wondered seeing as you are taking such care to create a home there whether you might have to think about moving again anytime soon or whether you know you're staying put? Good luck with the chair shopping, looking forward to seeing what you choose x
I don’t know if you’d want to remove the white table, or put it elsewhere, but if you want to use the desk as a functioning earring area, you could get two wooden benches in a similar color and maybe put it where the white table is.
I would leave the Monstera in the right corner so you can't see the a/c that much and the new table in the middle of the two windows. Maybe a cool lamp in the left corner or a big cactus which can be in the sun?
Hi Lizzy! Your apartment is gorgeous. Thank you for keeping us updated. Just curious. How do you move large pieces of furniture living alone in NYC? I am an expat living alone in a much smaller city in the US, and I found it hard moving my larger pieces around.
Loved the soundtrack choices in this one and the cooking montage (mentioning this only coz it wasn't the main point of the video but a lovely addition nevertheless).
Hi Lizzy. Your vlogs are wonderful. I was just wondering how do you do with your plants when you travel away to London. I struggle with this. I once found my beautiful plant dead when I was away for a month :-(
I am not sure I do need it! I am going to live with it for a bit and see how nice it is to eat at a separate table or if I am not really too bothered !
I don’t know about the desk there either. The perspective we have watching, it looks like all the furniture is on one side of the room. Although, i don’t have a better idea where to put it.
my first thought was: won't the air conditioning be blowing directly at you while you're sitting at your desk? or maybe you've set that aside as a later, summertime, problem :)
I think you could use a horizontal 6 drawer dresser to balance out the weight of your bed. It would be shorter, and allow you to put horizontal artwork above it. Can you share the link to your Amazon bed frame?
I know not ideal for working/sleeping but the desk would look nice where the dresser is in the bedroom…Living room feels like there are too many big pieces but maybe the shelves could go in a room if the desk stays out there! Too many good pieces !
i don't like having light streaming in from one side when i'm working at my laptop so i would probably have the desk at the position where the monstrous plant is. but then again, i have zero sense of aesthetics.
The pictures above the big plant doesn't work , let the plant be the main feature there alone , you could ,for the time being place it over your desk but hung on the lower side ,because you need a picture there to designate that corner work space, but a larger one.❤
