The Wheel of Time Cast and Creator NYCC panel (8th October 2021) Watch the missing scene clip here: • First Look At 'The Whe... Video belongs to NYCC and metaverse creators
I hope so. There have been troubling signs of executive interference, corporate formula, and playing it safe, which are the death knells of creativity. The Disney Star Wars are very good examples of how bad things can get.
@@Klaaism Yes, all those pitfalls could still cause a disater and on top of that the show will be forced to make a lot of changes to transition Wot from books to tv shows. That is why, in my oppinion, the cast and their understanding of the characters is so important.
@@delete26em It certainly helps. Granted I'm still smarting after being burned on the last seasons of Thrones. Can be hard to guage an actor's understanding of a character, especially when studios work overtime to prep and control talking bits. Unfortunately even if an actor is an awesome fit, they really have very limited creative control unless a major celebrity with studio backing. Course the relationship between director and actors is paramount. Sadly alot of things can kill a show/film, they really are lousy investments financially, let alone if the final product is enjoyable.
Everyone who has finished book one can pretty much guess there will be a scene at Dragonmount and/or Shail Gaoul near the end.... By book 5, several prophecies extract refer to it already and Rand thinks about it a lot. Contrary to popular opinion, Jordan was not really subtile with his foreshadowing (he was as heavy and repetitive about this aspect that he was with several others). Wheel of Time isn't difficult to read, it's just very long.
I like seeing Rosamund speaking about Robert Jordan's writing and his books. It feels like she's become a a fan of the series and its world. It reminds me a little of back when Liv Tyler was in Lord of the Rings interviews, talking about Tolkien's world and learning the Elvish language. It's so fun to watch actors you wouldn't initially think would have the knowledge they do of material that most people think only geeks are fans of.
I love that Zoe Robbins spoke about her hair texture. Speaking as a mixed girl and sometimes actress, texture and curl pattern is something very sacred to us. I got the texture, but not the melanin. It puts me in a strange place, but I can attest to how special it must've felt for Zoe to keep her hair instead of wearing a wig. Love it!
@@niamhheron5587 It really was! I got the curls/texture but not the melanin. My hair has actually caused me literal trauma growing up. I'm so happy she spoke about that and they incorporated her texture. I can't wait for the premier. Also, on the subject of hair: I'm really happy they dyed Rosamund Pike's hair. A blond Moraine might make me puke. Haha!
I'm excited for Josha to read book 12. That book is my favorite, and the development of Rand is fantastic. The ending sequence of that book is special to me. So happy that he's into the books and is absorbing/understanding Rand's mental state.
As a young girl I had read every fantasy series I could get my hands on. When the WoT fell into my hands through my glimpsing it at a WalMart bookshelf, I fell in immediate love. I had never read something with such depth and diversity to the cast and characters, where they all felt so real and so nuanced. I have been re-reading it now for the past 23 years and love it more every time. I know this show will not be the books, but the chance to see this story that has played such a key role in my confidence and my compassion building? I'm ever so grateful to Rafe and the showrunners and cast. And highly looking forward to November 19.
Dear god, Josha is perfect as Rand. He's just sitting there not saying anything, and I just feel completely intimidated by him. The way he looks at you silently, idly moving about in his seat, I just... He's Rand!
My favorite part is when Rosamund mentions Bela. So many characters and their journey. Everyone in the panel today and more, how their characters evolve and grow through the story has inspired so many of us throughout our lives. When I think of things in my life that have guided and inspired me, sometimes to just never give up, these people in this panel will bring to life that journey.
@@ivovanvelzen9292 I think that something like six million of us live in the Randstad, including myself? I never really made the connection to Rand, tbh.
Josha’s anecdote at 29:10 is why he became my favourite of the cast. This kind of serendipity is like being ta’veren in the real world, seeing the connections/pattern of life. He’s figured it out already!
More than any trailer or clip, hearing the love and passion that Josh, Madeline, Marcus, Zoe, Daniel, and of course Rosamund have for their characters has really convinced me that they will do justice to this series that I love so much. November 19th can’t come soon enough!!
As a young man I started reading a story that evolved into a lifelong fanship. I am so stoked to see all of the performances. The Wheel of Time is a story that has brought millions of fans together and will soon bring hundreds of millions more fans. I know there will be many changes from the source material, the wheel will turn ages that are long gone will come once again. This is just another turning of the wheel. I look forward to the excitement of seeing the changes and the similarities.
One thing that stands out to me is how Rosamund talks about the "dance" in channeling. We know that Moiraine "danced" during her test for Aes Sedai from New Spring. When one channels, one uses an intuition in movement, combined with how they were taught to channel, and dancing helped Moiraine, coming from a noble House.
I've been excited since it was announced but wary as well. Adaptations don't usually go well. The actors passion has given me some hope. I don't like some of the cosmetic things (Aes Sedai rings are too gaudy)but those are minor things. Character motivations, personalities are most important.
@@bobc538 i think i know what you mean and im not a huge fan of the ring. it also looks like many big changes for the show vs the books - but i have a good feeling about the heart of what they are doing from what i have seen so far. i think its going to be big and i think most of us will like it, but it will be different
Love the cast. Henney is right. The Clip represents the first iconic moment when the small town meets the Aes Sedai. Done more dramatically in the Clip, but it worked superbly to get the moment across. It look far longer to accomplish in the book and wouldn't work well on screen with too much wasted time. This clip is sort of like a belly-flop into a pool. Makes its point in spades.
Personally, I felt the drama in that seen was overdone. So much so, that I was getting "fan film" vibes from it. There's just something about the way they talk, stand, and reveal themselves that is just...too much... I hope that isn't going to be a running theme.
@@bobc538 They never used fake names in Emond's Field though, nor Moiraine hid the ring. More like nobody recognized them for what they were (aside from mayeb a kid). I agree they could have still have done it less overdramatic though.
The WoT is my best-loved Fantasy books. I got the honor of also getting one of the books signed by Robert Jordan himself when he came to Milano (Italy), albeit he said "I usually do not sign anything". It was the 7th of May (do not remember the year), and it was my birthday. Talk about a sign! When I see this video of all actors loving the books etc, I think of him, Robert. This is what you created. Be proud, wherever you are in heaven.
Wheel of time changed my life in the best way. So much so that I’ve read the series 6 times, and I want to read it again! The story is that good. I hope they stay true enough to the books that those of us who’ve read them aren’t lost. To say I’m excited would be an understatement. I will say, I love Rosamund Pike as Moraine! If I was able to ask the cast a question it would be, how do they feel about seeing some of the die hard fan reactions to the trailer?
First I thought - Yeah! The guy is actually a fan. "One of those iconic scenes I still remember from the books..." Now I'm not sure he even read them...
I like to see rosamunda talking about almost everything, her humility, sweetness and joy makes her show sincere and common, I think she would easily spend on a sidewalk, for example in Brazil, with her boyfriend without being bothered, I love this actress not only for the hard work she performs, but for her beauty and sweetness
Hmmm...sounds Like Elayne and Andor will be already in Deep trouble when she meets the Emond field Five in season 2. Perhaps a merging of later Andor strife for the throne in book threads.
The show has only a few similarities to the books of the series. The dragon can only be a man in the books. That's why they mainly hunt for male users of magic. The fact that Moiraine loses her magic is not mentioned in the book, but Siuan Sanche and her assistant are appeased or lost their magic as punishment during the rebellion in the white tower. Another book series that is destroyed by the Amazon streaming service, just like Netflix did with the Witcher. Such a shame that people who don't have the creativity to write original work themselves have the opportunity and the power to destroy the beautiful work of others.
@@MustafaAlmosawi I wonder if he means in relation to our world, cause that would be true, and in many cultures in WoT they have more power than men, but not every culture.
Perhaps. But if he’s misremembering this non-existent ‘iconic scene’ I wonder how the ‘powerful women in every culture’ will get equally misremembered. I hope they retain the nuance of different cultural balances that men and women find in each culture.
The "iconic scene" is changed if course but I think it's because it's iconic as the first introduction of Moiraine. As someone who just Reread the series I can say that scene made me really happy, changed as it was, because I felt the underlying tension and the pointed looks between Moiraine and others. Also, the snub of Nynaeve!!!
@@Setres09 I just reread the books as well, the first time we meet Moiraine she is looking at a raven at the same time as Rand and Mat. There’s no iconic scene where she and Lan bust into an inn and announce themselves. And idk what you mean by of course, if you say “this is an iconic scene from the books” I think everyone’s expecting an iconic scene from the books lol. I’m not saying the show isn’t going to be good, I’m just wondering what he’s on about
What it it about this adaptation that you feel makes the series more able to attract viewers from beyond the readership who would not be as intrigued by a more faithful approach to the original material? Why do you feel it is more important for the artists to put their personal spin into their work rather than be as faithful as possible to the beautiful vision Jordan had?
No! It's because Rosamund Pike is a major producer on the show and she has more power over decisions than Rafe. She wants attention so she cast herself as Moraine and changed the story so it centered around her instead of Rand al'Thor.
What part of I don’t give crap about having more women don’t you understand? Do you really think you are deep enough and well read to know what a higher “balance” would should look like? This guy talks effeminate. Is that what you envision?
I do like the higher that sexual relationship thing Pls get some high testosterone guys to balance the fem energy. There doesn’t seem to be any knowledge of how to write guys here. That main speaker guy is embarrassing
