Hey, Mike. I’ve used different lbs test options of Amnesia for 6 dollars a spool in the same setup you just showed for a few years. Am I really missing out on OPST at $30+ per spool? Also tried a fips nymph line and a shorty, but keep going back to keeping it simple with amnesia, sighter and tippet. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Anthony. The opst is colored so visually I can track it much better. Also it casts better for me as well. Are you running a tapered rig with amnesia or one solid piece? Also I personally never put the entire spool on of opst. I use about 1/3 of the spool at a time. I fill the reel with backing then 30-40’ of opst at a time. When it wears I flip it. When both sides wear I replace with another 30-40’ section. It’s certainly more of a visual thing for me. I can track it so we’ll.

I’ve tried various tapers / formulas, now just using 12 lb test neon green amnesia to a 24 inch piece of cortland tri color sighter followed by 5 to 7 feet of trout hunter 5x tippet which I just started using and is super strong and helps retrieve snagged flies as well. OPST would be the last option for me to try, I need convincing since the above works pretty well for me. Just want to make sure I’m not missing something. Thanks again.
