Why? It’s perfectly fine to go through a red light or an intersection safely to get out of the way. Everyone always says how nerve wracking it is to drive in NYC and I never feel that way. The problem is all the tourists or cabs/Uber drivers that park on the right side. I can’t tell you how many fucking cabs/ubers/Lyft/ tourist drivers I’ve had to go around because they literally stop right in the middle of the road
2:26 In case of an Emergency you are allowed to go through the red light upon checking if it's safe to do so to allow Emergency Vehicles to proceed. Many people don't understand that, and just wait at the red light.
That's why where I live, almost every traffic light has the thing that lets emergency vehicles change the lights to be green for them and red for cross traffic
Yeah but sadly the most people either dont know that, or are too stupid to remember it. Because I see it WAY too much that people dont make way for emegency vehicles regardless of the country.
As far as I can tell there is no such statute. Even worse is any red light cameras are likely to snap a picture and send you a fine automatically. So while an officer may require you to move out of the way, and you should make way. I'm not so sure automated red light cameras would handle such an emergent situation. As a general rule the police officer is the enforcer of the rules, so common sense says that as long as you safely make way for the emergency vehicle then they can use proper judgement and not enforce the law because it would cause more harm than good.
You are allowed to run a red with an emergency vehicle behind you, or drive faster than normal to let them through in the US? Here in Sweden it will cost you your license. Two stories about that... On European Route 18 just outside the city of Uppsala, an ambulance was en route back to hospital with a seriously injured patient after a car collision and the ambulance drove with light and sirens and behind the ambulance was a police car following. The ambulance eventually came up behind a motorist and the ambulance was unable to pass him for a while due to this being a single lane road at this place, and there were safety rails on both sides of the road. The motorist then tried to speed up to let the ambulance pass him a few kilometers up ahead where the road became a 2 lane road instead. The police car following the ambulance took notice of this civilian breaking the speed limit, pulled him over and revoked his license. The man who lost his license made a plea in court, saying he wanted to assist the ambulance the only way he could at that moment but learned he should've still kept the speed limit, and let the ambulance pass him later on instead of breaking the law to assist an emergency vehicle. He lost his license for half a year and was heavily fined. Story number two... A man was driving in the central parts of Stockholm where he heard incoming emergency vehicles and saw multiple fire trucks coming up behind him, and traffic was dense. He was the only obstacle between the Fire Department and the intersection right in front of them, so he carefully ran a red light, giving them space to keep going. He was spotted by a police car, responding to the same incident and they decided to pull him over for "reckless driving and running a red light". The fact he let the Fire Department get to their destination faster was irrelevant according to Swedish law, one of the officers claimed. The man lost his license and was fined.
skrivbok That's rough! Might be different in some states, but I think for the most part you are allowed to run a red if there is an emergency vehicle behind you and it is safe. Typically I think most people pull into the intersection just enough to let emergency through, turn slightly to the right, then stop. But most the time that results in you being stuck in the middle of an intersection so most people just let ya run the red and police won't bother you for it here.
Sean: to me, that's the most logical thing to do, to give them space. They don't run with light and sirens just for fun. Kevin: I agree, it's retarded - however, it's not the officers' fault as this is how the Swedish law is written. Most officers do not agree with this stupid law either but they have to perform their duties.
You guys should write a petition for the government to pass a law on this! This may seem like a small problem, but more and more people will be afraid of yielding to the emergency vehicles and could cause situations to worsen overtime. Stay safe my friend!
it's true. when it takes 15 minutes just to go 2 blocks there's a serious problem. i don't give a FUCK if they share the same number of people as all of India and Thailand there's no excuse not to make way for an emergency vehicle. how hard can it be to just fucking pull over????
Yeah, only to those who don't make the effort to move, those who cant be bothered to shift should get arrested in my books. In a way, its failing to allow an officer to do his duty, a crime in other cases.
Israel Flores The EMTs should've used helicopters to transport patients to the hospital instead of weaving through the traffic. Jeez, and I thought LA traffic was terrible.
These brave men and women who work for the NYPD, FDNY and ambulance corps don't get enough respect. God bless you guys and stay safe during these tough times. And even when this mess is over, still stay safe out there.
It would be different if NY would change the law. In Germany you have to clear the passage for police, fire departments, EMT vehicles and emergency helicopter. You have to learn first aid and cpr to get any driver license.
Completely opposite in Germany 🇩🇪, drivers voluntarily move out of the way quickly and efficiently, because every second matters when saving a life is concerned.
Was responding to fire, no cooperation from traffic. Finally driver puts two and two together, looks back at me, looks up at plume of black smoke, back at me, back at smoke. Looks at me, points to smoke, I nod vigorously, he finally complies.
3:03 I love how they’re playing Moana on the screen while something big is happening I love how they’re playing Moana on the screen while something big is happening
That did happen to a guy a while back. Fire Dept. was on it's way to a house fire, guy blocks them for a while before moving to the side. One cop stops him, writes him up. While he's giving the guy the ticket, they hear on the radio the house number where the fire is at. It was the idiots house. His delaying the fire trucks caused the complete loss of his house.
Exactly. I think in big cities like this, where it gets too crowded, vehicles should only be allowed onto roads if they are the following: law enforcement, fire department, emergency responders, public transportation, tourist vehicles, and delivery/package drivers. Everyone else can either walk, use a bike, take a taxi/bus, or take the train.
Falcon X answer my question? Where are those cars going to go in the middle of rush hour traffic in NYC? They should get medical helicopters if it's a big problem
Izzy G how about you name a better alternative instead of adding no meaningful input? either way if you have common sense it's understandable why it's so hard for emergency vehicles to get through during these rush hours. no space to move out of the way with hundreds of people walking on the streetsides. its stupid to assume that people don't care especially when it's common knowledge in the states that you can get charged for not moving out of the way.
This video made my day. Peaceful video vibe :) What's more peaceful was that this video was made 2016, 5 years ago, when right now it's 2021, almost 2022. Time flies by so quickly.
For those of you who don't work for the police, fire department or EMS: This is a DAILY occurance in ALL big cities, not just New York. We're generally taught not to use the P.A. system built into the siren, but for some people the lights, sirens and air horns aren't enough.
I'll say this. It's not nearly this bad down here Georgia. Traffic done here is definitely a bitch. But it doesn't get so backed up that emergency vehicles can't get by. Atlanta definitely has terrible traffic. But for the most part, emergency vehicles don't have to face this kind of delays.
I was about to mention Atlanta before I finished reading that paragraph so I'm glad you mentioned that, but Atlanta is one of the places it counts the most due to crime and population density. I know a lot of the south is rural so certainly those areas aren't as bad.@@snakeshadows6993
jack0tentation Hell if they want 9/11 recreated that's on them. All the New Yorkers should give a shit. I wish it was legal to push them out of the way
Have you ever driven in New York City? Many times, you can't move! Especially when you're in heavy traffic and stopped at a red light. The emergency vehicle just has to sit and wait until the light turns green and traffic starts moving again.
They arrived on the scene and the man had already been buried and everyone said their goodbyes at the funeral home before the cops got to the crime scene
swimman47 As much as they would love to, some of the shit they say on the loudspeaker can cause them to loose their job. Especially if the wrong persons camera is the one capturing it.
Give NYPD and fdny the benefit of the doubt they are busy responding to what could be a real life situation they deserve alot of credit tons of it let's honor them and appreciate your service and time and efforts are deeply appreciated thanks great job great team work and great and sweet catches as usual great team efforts are deeply appreciated thanks stay safe and warm out there way to much love and respect and appreciation job well done you should be amazed and proud !!! Joe ❤😂😂😅😅😊😊
NYPD :MOVE OUT THE FREAKIN WAY!!!! -hits every siren.😡😡😡 NYFD :LETS JUST WALK.😌😌😅 NYEMS :WE CAN WAIT NICELY 👍✅ Awesome vid keep up the great work!✅✅✅✅✅✅✅❤️
Kandi Klover that's the idea. Shake until people get fed up or can't take the vibration and have to move aside. The rumbler siren when i play on my phone sends it vibrating but not the normal siren
What a [FANTASTIC] Job by the NYPD to help the 2 ambulances get way to wherever the emergency is needed! Its sad to see ambulances stuck in traffic with no help. Amazing video catching all this man! This videos gonna go viral " Mark my words"! ^^ ;)
Must be so stressful for the Ambulance driver if someone in the back of your van is literally bleeding out with minutes to live and some dude is slowly getting out of his car in the middle of the street like its a casual Thursday night.
Do these disgusting and disgraceful fools believe that they are immune from ever needing ambulances, or fire trucks, to save them or their loved ones in a future emergency??? I am shocked and stunned by their ignorance and selfishness. Love from Toronto to all the NYPD & FDNY & EMT's.
