HERE YOU WILL SEE SEVERAL VIDEOS COMPILED INTO ONE OF SOME RECKLESS AND VERY DANGEROUS DRIVERS TRYING TO OUT DO RESPONDING FDNY UNITS ON THE STREETS OF NEW YORK CITY.
Driver/engineer of an FDNY rig has got to be one of the most difficult driving jobs in the world. So much respect for these guys; I don't now how they maneuver through NYC.
i would be plowing through traffic like its crazy taxi. those things are literal tanks. nothing the road stands a chance besides semi truck sand other emergency vehicles. im trying to find footage of them just making a car look like a card b oard box. what happened to america?
Its HUGE its RED and lit up like a Christmas tree making more noise that a Rave party and yet people just ignore all this.. To busy on their cell phones or just wrapped up in their own little world. Now as a driver i know you cant always tell from where all that noise is coming from, but you just use your eyes and drive slow towards a junction. ( intersection ) incase you meet the big red fire machine.
@Squeeks my father is a fire chief here where I live along with my fiance being a firefighter and me being a emr. And you bring up a good point tho if I'm not mistaken tho we can't use blue lights that's indicative of law enforcement and orange and white being Ems. And red being fire department. I guess that's why you see alot of fire engines and ladder trucks going with a bright green and yellow paint scheme assuming it would help other people to see our lights. Curious on what you think about this.
Here in the Midwest as soon as there is an emergency vehicle we are taught to get over to the edge of the road ASAP and stop moving. No matter what way you are going (unless it’s like a divided freeway)
sure, when has a simple ticket stopped someone? care to cite any examples? from what ive seen, it never works. they will just do shit when the cops aren't around.
THEMAJESTIRIUM1 lets say if there is police behind you and you have to run the red light to let then fire engine/fire truck the police would not stop you
We’ve had many drivers run our reds, how many people almost rear ending us backing in, and we’ve air horned (with help from mutual aid waiting for us to back in) multiple runners, and screamed at quite a few. And we’re a town of only 3,500.
@@Jomskylark I am sorry if you cannot comprehend this simple concept but let be help you out: Big flashy thingys turn on - you stop your little two ton death machine and put it in park. When big flashy thingys turn off OR drive away - you put your two ton death machine back in drive or let your foot off the gas and drive off.
Patient with cardiac arrest. Call came in 4 minutes ago, will take 3 minutes to get there. 3 or 4 jackasses hold them up a minute. Patient will now probably die because AED wasn't initiated within 8 minutes.
My personal experience is that red lights and sirens render a vehicle invisible. Plus, when it finally filters through to them that you're there, they will invariably do something stupid right in front of you.
You people can’t wait 3 SECONDS! Those 3 seconds lost, could have been those 3 seconds saving a life. Those 3 seconds matter. Where ever you need to go, surely won’t matter if you are late 3 SECONDS. Yield people! Awesome video.
3 seconds? in nyc? you serious? once everyone stops getting their phones out and start getting training in first aid, you'll have no need of firefighters doing that.
And then you see a fat fire man trying to get in to his fire truck for like 15 seconds. If I'm being honest, then these fire units that were shown in the video, are pathetic compared to an average European one. These guys drop their shit mid way, JUMP in their trucks and fly out of the garage, meanwhile, these pathetic comic characters come out of the garage, while still trying to put on the jacket😂😂😂😂 Sorry to those responsible people, didn't mean to offend you, but these ones in the video....
My dad has been a firefighter for almost 30 years. I've screamed at cars to move out of the way as him and his crew came along. 9/10 times they don't. This is so frustrating to watch as someone who knows how important response time is.
sure bud. the reason why is because people in nyc are stupid. cool. no its because they simply lost respect of any government agency. even the fire department.
Okay i agree that most of these are jerks, but from what I could one of those videos was just a bunch of cars lined up at the traffic lights waiting their turn. They’re not emergency vehicles, they don’t have agency to just run them when an emergency vehicle comes around the corner behind them. If I am wrong and there was perhaps a car coming the other direction that wasn’t paying attention then I apologise, but it certainly wasn’t clear from the imagery. Also, heck no, we had the people LIVING NEXT TO THE HOSPITAL complain about how loud the ambulance sirens are in our town. I know it can be annoying, but as far as I am concerned if you choose to live that close to emergency services you gotta get used to it, or fork out for some noise abatement like double/triple glazing, or noise cancelling headphones (which these days I’m pretty sure you can Bluetooth to your phone so you can still hear your alarm in the morning🤔) or something similar.
Crazy impatient people putting other people's lives at risk just because 3 seconds they have to start to let a fire truck go by or ambulance or police car people make me so angry these guys are going to a scene to help somebody and they're making it worse by not stopping and letting the fire trucks emergency pass Personnel hours to pass
yea, wheres the first aid classes in nyc? oh wait, thats right. kids and teens have too small brains for that sort of thing.... a dem excuse. once you give people a AED or training in cpr and first aid, you can save many more lives.
I'm retired now but when I was an active duty police officer, whenever I saw a fire engine or ambulance responding to a call, I used to lay back and shadow them looking for these idiots. Failing to yield or move over for an emergency vehicle, passing a stopped school bus with lights activated and speeding through a school zone were some of my favorite tickets to write and unfortunately, there were a lot of violators to catch which makes me wonder who taught them how to drive and did they forget what they studied in the driving manual to study for their drivers license test because the excuse I would hear the most is "I didn't know!"
I like you!!!!!! I'm a volunteer in a small village and we don't have that problem to the same extent but jackasses are everywhere. NOTE: the to the same extent!!!
New York should install emergency lights and program sequences on their traffic control systems. We have them in Minnesota. If an emergency vehicle approaches a controlled interesting, all directions except for the direction it is traveling turn red, allowing for the intersection to be cleared. It's a great system, and it shocks me when I see videos without such systems in place.
We have that all too common here in Orlando too, even one time I saw a Jimmy John's Delivery driver on a Bicycle cut off an Orlando Tower truck responding to a medical, I was like wow so someone's lunch is more important that someone in need of medical attention? Pfff and the thing is most people don't realize it could be their loved ones their responding too or their friend
2:44 that is the most blatant failure to yield I have ever seen. Not only did this guy fail to yield to TWO fire tucks with their lights on, he also ran through the red light. I can't believe it.
Richie D No, I don’t think so. Engine 53 went first, which means that firetruck had the green light. When two emergency vehicles approach an intersection at the same time, whoever has the green light goes first. Since 53 went first, it must’ve meant he had the green light.
John, I meant to ask, do you have a fire station near your home? I think it's Ladder 25 that I've seen emerge from the side street several times when you record from your window (or balcony) ;)
I think that they should be able to push people out the way when on a call and charge the other drivers to fix any damage that happens and get a big big ticket
Part of the issue now is cars are better insulated so it's hard to hear emergency vehicles, not impossible, but hard. I can only imagine what it's like in places with high rises like NYC.
*(EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS)* THX for posting this video exposing a hidden frustration/a hidden stress/a vaguely spoken of unnecessary burden placed upon 1st responders everywhere, that can EASILY BE FIXED FOR FREE, FREE.....IT'S SAD when spoken of in this manor, EXTREMELY SAD!!!! 😢 So EVERYONE please BE A HERO to heroes by relieving them mentally, emotionally & physically by yielding to emergency vehicles.
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 Thanks for the replies, I did post two comments, one comment was mostly my aggravation for those dumb ass💩drivers & my anger came out thru that comment but that emotion was only directed towards them. Another emotion I got was appreciation, appreciation for the work you put into filming & then creating this video exposing these things that people do. I posted the second comment in hopes of reaching as many people as possible to sensibly explain what issues, stresses, emotions & concerns these seemingly small things that people do daily cause & create for 1st responders worldwide.........yet cost no money, require no specialized training/education & are simple to fix. I know you are familiar with all of these things, so I'm not preaching to you & I also know you have a great deal of respect for 1st responders by just watching your vids(especially this one)........SO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO, MY FRIEND. 👍🙌
4:45 Why would that stupid driver do that? Lights on, firefighters getting in the rig. Now, he casually pulls in front of it like they are going to ignore him, but the horn and siren comes in early. Wow.
Wow really amazing the driving skills of those engine drivers, they even stopped trying not to hit those irresponsible drivers, people needs to realize any second counts!!!
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 It's all in what you are used to...you seem to enjoy all of the noise, concrete, and people. I am used to rolling hills, pastures, the forest, creeks, and rivers...sounds of nature. I don't think I could cope with such an extreme change.
What is remarkable is the old fire houses can support modern fire trucks . I did inspections for the old gasoline tanks and the apparatus floors were jacked up 18 inches apart with pole jacks lol
manuel martin why expensive? It’s literally less than 5 seconds for a car to get across. Now if they are purposefully cutting in front of a fire truck, then yes. Give them a ticket or maybe even pay for the damage dealt at the call they were going to. Sweet revenge 😈
Stafford Northern Railroad I have seen where incidents have involved police being hit etc while on call due to drivers not paying attention. They got reported for driving without due care and attention. Perhaps dash cams and then report such issues to the police, any accidents would involve the police anyway though I’m sure as their cars would be demolished by these fire engines. New York seems to be really bad for drivers not giving way to emergency vehicles sadly, especially with the air horns.
@@NOVARailandWeatherEnthusiast i dont think you would feel the same way if you or your family was the one that needed the truck to help survive.seconds count on alot of situations and it tells me that when emergency lights and sirens cant get your attention to move well that driver probly had no clue about whats going on around them it goes deeper them seconds delay .its bad dangerous driving with a narrow mind and not giving a shit what or who os around them .for you to think its about money anfd to much to spend haveing a cop follow well your more then likely a person who will block emergency trucks .so rethink your ignorence and remember your mot the only one on the rd and it may be you needing that truck one day hope not but you never can tell .
As a FF that's been hit while on scene, some of these were scary to watch. Sometimes I miss living in NYC, but these clips are the parts I don't miss at all
can someone answer me this, no one ever seems to answer, when i fire truck reverses back into the station, they do it with the lights flashing, why is this? im from england so im just curious
If I was a lawmaker, I'd make it a criminal offense for blocking ANY emergency vehicle. Minatory minimum 7 days jail time and a revocation of their license for at least one year.
Amazing. In England Fire Appliance drivers get no special legal entitlement, they have to treat joe public like any other road user. You can speed but if you have a crash, you have to be able to justify why you were speeding. I was driving on a fire call when a car stopped for me and the car behind, hit the car in front from behind. When I got back to the station the driver of the car that hit the car in front was waiting for me and wanted my insurance details saying it was my fault. Also you are not suppose to use the sirens unnecessarily and not between 23.00 and 07.00 (only if no option). Crossings have to be passed at 5 MPH etc. The horns are used in England but rarely and drivers are trained to have low expectations of UK drivers skill levels. Also there are no laws or fines for drivers who don't yield to fire engines. The only time I ever got into a spot of bother was on the M25, attending a RTC. Arriving at the job my Station Officer was pointing at me to put the pump in one direction and a Police officer was pointing at me to put the pump in a different direction. I ignored the copper and did what my Station Officer wanted. A few minutes, later I got bollocked by my StnO for ignoring the copper. With a smile on his face he said, "you've been bollocked, don't ignore the instructions of a Police Officer, its an offence". Only in England.
Special privileges for emergency vehicle vary from state to state. In Pennsylvania, there are state laws and departmental guidelines that dictate how the driver of any emergency vehicle must operate it. They basically just boil down to keeping your head on a swivel, don't let the lights and sirens give you tunnel vision, and don't drive so bat shit insane that it gets a cop's attention.
Emergency drivers are responsible for the safe and effective parking of the vehicle, not some random plod who thinks they know best. Your SO was in the wrong.
Thank you for new compilation, I love federal q sirens, like for you. 4:00 driver is a moron. INFORMATION FOR THE DRIVERS: MAKE WAY FOR THE FIRE RESCUE VEHICLES!!!!!!! Thanks for video, Regards to you my friend :)
I've thought about speakers to the sides before, I think that could be a good idea. Getting through intersections is usually the hardest part so to have any extra warning is better. Not sure if it actually would be effective in the real world though
I visit NYC once every couple of years and catch a house or two while there (I last buffed the City in 1988! FAR too long ago!) and noticed that each company STILL has to wait until members close the doors before leaving. Do you know why FDNY hasn't installed power door openers - it would cut down response times, but that may not be a concern with the numbers going on each alarm.
Edward, really? I thought there'd always be someone left in the building, like a janitor or dunno.. someone who can do just that: close the doors so the firefighters can get on with it.
@@leonnehaaijman4709 No, I think someone assigned to WATCH (they rotated throughout the shift to staff the WATCH desk) ended several years ago. The position still exists but they respond with their unit now, as I understand it.
Well to be fair, the first clip wasnt only the civilians fault. Going through the straight lane to then immediately turn right and expect every driver to notice the tiny indicator light is a bit dangerous. Although the driver should´ve waited of course, it wasnt just the civilians fault.
No, drivers are required by law and expected by responders to pull to the right and stop or just stop. Emergency vehicles are not supposed to pass on the right for that reason. If a fire engine tries to pass on the right and the driver quickly pulls to the right to get out of the way as they are supposed to and there is an accident it most likely will be the driver of the engines fault. If the civilian would have done what they were supposed to do everything would have been fine. Everything was done perfectly by the driver of the fire engine.
Smh is this comment trolling? That is why the public is expected to pull over and stop. You have no idea where the vehicle is trying to go. Emergency vehicles are taught to pass on the left at all times. You really think emergency vehicles are subjected to driving only in the lanes of traffic as designated? Turn in your license
This video prove that too many idiots have driving licences. Failure to yield to a emergency vehicule responding should be a immediate revocation of the licence and at least a 2000$ fine.
I drove in a fire department in the 70's and the problem hasn't gotten any better. Biggest fact is...people DO NOT PAY ATTENTION and PLAY THEIR MUSIC soooo loud, they can't hear anything outside. REMEDY... when approaching intersections. Fire Truck Driver hits instant switch to TURN opposing ALL TRAFFIC LIGHTS RED. Won't stop the idiots but slow them down IF they Obey the Rules they Ignore.
WELL, IT REALLY DIDN'T MATTER IF THEY WERE RETURNING TO THE STATION OR WHATEVER ELSE THEY WERE DOING! PEOPLE NEED TO RESPECT THE LAW AND OUR EMERGENCY SERVICES. THX.
I visited NY earlier this year and was instantly encapsulated by the noise of a fire truck. I am so shocked though to see just how brain dead some/most drivers are when one is approaching either from behind or the side roads, they constantly just try their luck in trying to beat them. It really is astonishing bad driving.
