It's probably because the the new re-designs were done in an effort to make the rest stops more "green". Translation = Much smaller restrooms, less toilets, less urinals, less staffing, and just made like a big box inside.
Less restroom facilities, less seating andone of the main food services is closed on Sundays a heavy traval day for families . If chick filet wants to close on Sundays thats their right but why award them the franchise's in a monopoly setting. But dont dispair if you have hungrey kids the conveniance store has a seven dollar peanut butter and jelly available.
Also at Shake Shack, they don’t have any gluten free hamburger buns unlike most Shake Shack locations. This is why I always go to the Johnny Rockets at the Destiny Mall in Syracuse.
REMEMBER THE 70s TRAVEL PLAZAS WERE DISGUSTING. THOSE PLAIN BAGUE BRICK BUILDINGS WITH THE CHIMINYS. THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE AND THE HAND SOAP IN THE REST ROOMS HAD THAT GUT WRENCHING SMELL.THE RESTROOMS WERE UNSANITARY AND SMELLY. THE SOAP DISPENSERS WERE MOUNTED IN TO THE SINKS AND THE SOAP CAME OUT LIKE SHAVING CREAM AND SMELLED LIKE MOLDY SAWDUST.
I remember them well… going into some of them you felt like you walked into a scene from the deliverance movie… smoke, nasty food, nasty bathrooms, like an old diner that was on its last leg
