@@Homelander1 Oh really? Because not even a star’s tremendous light can escape the all devour darkness of a black hole. Light does not beat dark, it merely pushes against it, but the time will come when it can no longer hold it back. Our universe is predicted to end in pitch black as the stars, the last remnants of light die and fade into the pitch black abyss created by the ever expanding dark matter, the very fabric that holds things together in ways that even gravity cannot do. So no, in reality light can never truly beat dark.
@@Homelander1 This aint some superhero vs villain stuff. Light and dark are a balance. And those of light aren't more virtuous than the dark. And no light could beat a goddess who literally existed since the beginning of time itself
One Christian Cabalist equated Nyx with Ein Soph, the Impersonal One. Mystics call this Godhead or Brahman. Nyx was described as a great black bird. Hindus speak of the Kalahansa or Kalihansa. The Swan of Eternity or Black Swan. This is another name of the Parabrahman, the Ultimate Reality. The Divine Dark.
Surprisingly, Nyx is not an evil goddess, as many people claim. She is simply primordial, and in some versions of Greek myths, she and Erebus came into existence even before Chaos itself. No one truly knows her real intentions, only that she is primordial and the most powerful goddess ever
She is truly divine ,she is the second most beautiful goddess after the goddess Aphrodite ofcourse. But Nyx is almost never involving herself in myths ,she don't need to ,after all her daughter Eris is doing a lot of work.
Nyx is always an intriguing and mesmerizing goddess. I still also find it interesting that the beautiful Helen of Troy is possibly one of her granddaughters!
@@lorenzoreynolds2512 Well, Helen is Nyx's great-granddaughter if we count the version of Helen being the daughter of Zeus and Leda which is still valid. But other versions of her origin story (let's say the Fragment 8 of the Cypria, for example) has Helen being the daughter of Zeus and Nemesis, the latter being Nyx's daughter, which makes Helen, her granddaughter. So both relationships are correct, depending on the version.
I enjoy the fact that Zeus fears her. I adore that Zeus is not an absolute powerhouse in the face of ultimate great powers in the universe going head to head(I mean look at what happened with typhon) (and not use tricks and such to win). But that’s just my opinion. Best primordial goddess!
@@greyworld6242 yeah just a theory, because in the story it didn't say he was scared of her. So I guess it's more of a why risk a major fight for something small , my father always said choose your battles.
Lol stop riding in her coat tail Zeus wasn't scared to that point he did not want to fight her just to punish Hypnos and remember the gods are still having infighting if he fought someone on his level at that time the gods will choose sides and a new war of gods will erupt
@@isaklal518 nah, the other gods won't rebel against Zeus again. Just one Hecatoncheires made the rebel gods kneeled to Zeus again even Poseidon. Yeah Poseidon, who is often stated to rivals Zeus in terms of power swore loyalty to Zeus again. It is because Zeus managed to make the 3 Hecatoncheires sided especially to him. In other words even though Poseidon can rival Zeus's power he don't possess the same influences like Zeus does. Besides, Zeus is at Nyx's territory which made him at the great disadvantage. Also Erubus, Nyx's husband and another Primordial who never leave their territory is there too. Not to mention Nyx and Erubus had a neighbour who is a another Primordial, Tartarus. In some depiction, Tartarus fathered Typhon with Gaia to seek revenge on Zeus for killing his first child/daughter. Worst case scenario is if Tartarus join Nyx's side to beat Zeus even though Nyx alone will be too much for Zeus to handle. Besides if the 3 Hecatoncheires came to aid Zeus, the Titans that they are guarding are likely to escape from imprisonment. And another worst case scenario is when the Titans would join Nyx's side to seek revenge on Zeus. No wonder Zeus was afraid at that time because he had no direct authority of the underworld but luckily for him Hades does. Besides, Zeus is already on Gaia's bad side he don't want another Primordials as his enemy because Gaia alone managed to put the Olympian Gods on great danger twice.
@@ghio43 the fact that you say Poseidon rival Zeus shows your ignorance because Zeus himself alone says he could solo all of Olympus and with pure brute power. He even said that if they had a golden rope tight around the Earth and all the gods were to pull it Zeus says he would be able to beat them and that means brute power alone Zeus says he will be able to fling both Gaia and Pontus(Primordial Gods) with his barehands. He also said that he is the strongest of all immortals did Nyx says he is stronger than Zeus if you have come and tell and none of the gods refute all of this claim. Lastly the fact is most people think older gods mean stronger gods but this is proven wrong again cause Kronos beat Uranus and Zeus beat Kronos and he was supposed to be beaten but he did not get beaten and if the servants of Zeus like Aethar and Hemera can drive Nyx away and bring day how much more the gods. They trembled before a hecatoncheires? What version did you use cause the version I use tells me that they called the hecatoncheires because he had one hundred arms and untie Zeus very fast before the gods could check and afterwards the gods bowed to Zeus' thunder and lightning so...
Nyx might be the most powerful deity in all of Greek myth. Other contenders include Typhon(might technically not be a deity but was born from Gaia and Tartarus who are deities which should make him a deity) and Chaos.
To my knowledge, The Trojan War was actually the second time Hypnos was convinced by Hera to put Zeus into an enchanted sleep. The first time was at some point during the 12 labors of Hercules. Zeus had promised him clear skies while sailing, but Hera wanted to sabotage Herc with a storm, so she tricked Hypnos into putting Zeus to sleep, saying that he was having trouble resting and needed help. Hercules' desperate prayers during the storm she summoned woke Zeus, and the furious King of Olympus chased Hypnos down until he hid under Nyx's cloak. The second time in the Trojan War, Hera actually had to bribe Hypnos by promising him the hand of Pasathea, the Grace (minor Goddess) of relaxation and meditation, who he fancied to secure his aid, and stayed by Zeus' side as he slept to ensure he wouldn't be disturbed. Hypnos got off scot-free that time and Hera kept her end of the deal.
@MyUniqueCharmingLifeFree-xu8jvand did Pasathea agreed to the arrangement? It would appeared if Hera decreed it, Pasathea herself will have little say in the matter.
Zeus: hello Hypnos I I came to apologize and I am sorry for trying to punish you Nyx: continue Zeus [She said, placing her hand on shoulder, causing Zeus to begin to sweat even more] Hypnos: it’s ok Zeus I forgive you. I hope we can both try and reconcile.
My most favorite of the Gods and most worthy of respect. The thought of a goddess painting the world dark to allow us to take refuge for sleep is one of the ideas that actually helps me sleep at night.
Besides Aether and Herema, its actually pretty ambiguous which children Nyx had on her own and which were fathered by Erebus. I like to imagine that it actually doesn't matter. I've always imagine Erebus and Nyx as being some of the best parents in the myths, and that Erebus has been the weary Uncle of Gaia's bloodline, being there in a background while not getting directly involved with that bit of family drama. After all, by some accounts, he and Nyx are parents to the Fates themselves.
Zeus: You dare trick me Hypnos?! I will teach you the consequences of tricking the King of Olympus! Hypnos: MOM! Zeus: *starts sweating* Nyx: You fare threaten my son Zeus! Zeus: No no at all... it was a missunderstanding
@@ashash1505 Somehow I find it funny and fascinating how some ancient religions have such similarities. It makes me wonder if they were once something like a big tribe which then split apart and then created their own religion. For example, I found recently out, that the cosmic giant Ymir also exist in the Hinduism. And aside that, the Germanic religion has also similarities with the Greek religion too. I mean, in a way it does make sense because the Germanic languages are part of the Indo-Germanic languages. So maybe there was an Indo-Germanic-religion from which all other follow myths/religions of the Indo-Germanic-tribes were born. 🤔
Love the background music, it's sort of like a dramatic lullaby. Next 2 vid ideas, pls do the stories and histories of Khione: goddess of snow and daughter of the northwind and winter god Boreas. The Romans called her Chione (same pronunciation, different spelling). Second, Selene, another moon goddess.
Hades: Hey Bro what are you doing here? Zeus: Hypnos where?! Hades: Over there…wait! *later** Hades: You forgot Nyx is my Roommate. Zeus: HOW CAN YOU LIVE UNDER THE SAME ROOFS AS HER?! Hades: Other than you I respect everything that moves without trying to find out if it’s breed-able and because her son works for me. Also Persephone likes to have tea with her whenever possible.
I like to imagine the conversation happening juuuuust outside of the underworld, with persephone entering back for winter like "Evening" while Zeus is just there terrified.
Despite how high or mighty the Titans and Gods of Olympus are, they never dare to directly challenge the primordial gods, including Nyx, Erebus, Gaia, and Tartarus (Eros sometimes considered one). These deities seemingly have no weakness and only fears Chaos.
Though there are primordials who surpass gods in some aspects but still fear them because the gods surpass their influence. Hypnos is the perfect example. As a primordial he is able to surpass Zeus resistance against sleep and can influence his (Zeus) dreams because he (Hypnos) holds domain about all dreams and the sleep. However, dreams are still what they are: dreams. And because they are dreams, they can be destroyed and Zeus wields enough power to do this. At least, that's how I imagine why Hypnos fears Zeus.
In addition, here are the name children of Erebus and Nyx. There are Aither (Light and Upper Air), Hemera (Day), the Moirai (Destiny): Clotho (Birth and Past), Lachesis (Life and Present), Atropos (Death and Future), Charon (Death and Bone), Thanatos (Peaceful and Gentle Death), Hypnos (Sleep), Nemesis (Punishment, Balance, and Justice), Eris (Discord and Strife), Sophrosyne (Temperance, Abstention, Self-Control, Restraint, and Discretion), Apate (Deception), Dolos (Trickery), Geras (Old Age), the Keres (Violent Death), Arai (Curse), Moros (Doom and Nothingness), Momus (Blame), Oizys (Distress), Epiphron (Prudence, Thoughtfulness, and Carefulness), and Elpis (Hope). Moreover, Nyx is also consort with Chaos and has a daughter Akhlys (Poison). Next, before Nyx adopted the Erinyes (Furies): Alecto (Angry), Megaera (Envy) and Tisiphone (Vengeance), she is consort with Uranus and has a daughter Lyssa (Madness). Finally, Nyx is consort with Cerberus and has the creature Hellhounds.
Nyx might have a reason, maybe she wants to have many children to represent of something like protect, creation, benevolent, and useful. For example, Aither (Light and Upper Air), Hemera (Day), the Moirai (Destiny): Clotho (Birth and Past), Lachesis (Life and Present), Atropos (Death and Future), Charon (Death and Bone), Thanatos (Peaceful and Gentle Death), Hypnos (Sleep), Nemesis (Punishment, Balance, and Justice), Sophrosyne (Temperance, Abstention, Self-Control, Restraint, and Discretion), Arai (Curse), Moros (Doom and Nothingness), Epiphron (Prudence, Thoughtfulness, and Carefulness), Elpis (Hope), Akhlys (Poison), Alecto (Angry), Megaera (Envy), Tisiphone (Vengeance), and Hellhounds. Or she wants to have many children to represent of something like destruction and malevolent. For example, Eris (Discord and Strife), Apate (Deception), Dolos (Trickery), Geras (Old Age), the Keres (Violent Death), Momus (Blame), Oizys (Distress), and Lyssa (Madness). Especially the deities being of, I think.
Zeus HATE the powers of Hypnos and Eris. Because Zeus hate Hypnos when he doesn’t want to get sleepy and Zeus hate Eris when he doesn’t want to get involved with discord, conflict, disagreement, and incompatibility. Zeus himself feared Nyx enough to retract all threats against her son Hypnos and her daughter Eris.
Zeus was probably terrified of Nyx because she could Take away the night leaving us with only day or she could turn the world dark for years if she wanted to she probably had knowledge and powers that could Alter the world....No one Would dare disrespect the Goddess of night she could take it away in one lift of a finger... This is just my theory tho not true....or it could be haha ❤❤❤
It was also because Helios couldn't chase her in the entire world and not have night elsewhere. And that though she was an aspect of chaos it allowed humans to use their imagination and from that the world was shaped even more.
*Bullying Hypnos* Bullies: "Hehe, whatchu gonna do, mama's boy? Call your mom? LOL!" Hypnos: "As a matter of fact, yes. MOM!!" *Bullies fleeing for their lives as Nyx chases them with a chancla made out of night and stars* "THIS IS NOT WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!!!"
According to the Illiad, when Zeus woke up from his slumber, figured out that Hypnos put him to sleep at the request of Hera he lashed out at her but his wife was able to deflect guilt and calm him down with clever talking. So i totally buy that he would lose his momentum at other stronger women as well 🤣
I think Zeus respected Nyx more than he feared her. And maybe because attacking her house would certainnly end in divine civil war since, as you said, Nyx birthed many gods.
Zeus ended up chasing Hypnos all over the world, since he couldn't just sit there to be caught by Zeus. That was when Hypnos put him to sleep. Hypnos was lucky to escape Zeus's fury.
You think Zeus would be pissing his toga scared of all the primordials you know those beings that make him look like a little school girl dancing merrily through a field of Gilly flowers
I should remind you guys during the whole Hypnos putting Zeus in a deep sleep thing Morpheus acted as the getaway driver and he did it so his crush Pasithea could be married to him.
It was not during the Trojan war that Zeus chased Hypnos. It was in the Iliad though (Trojan War) which Achilles told that story of Zeus fearing Nyx’s maternal wrath. But does that mean she’s more powerful than Zeus or even Poseidon and Hades. It’s like USA x Russia x China. We know who’s the most powerful
she is the mother of Thanatos, Hypnos, Eris, Nemesis, the Fates, Hemera, and a lot more deities that were born in Tartarus her daughter, Hemera, might be her least favorite, since she represented the day, while Nyx represented the night, so they were always at odds and were rarely seen together the father of all of Nyx's children was said to be Eurebus, Primordial God of Darkness
Nyx together with Erebus as a plural makes Khaos. Source: the planet “Neptune” is indigo because it is Khaos. Or at least the affects of the force of nature in Astrology. 1 orbit = 7 generations of humans 😊😊😊
