Chemical Bonding is the MOST important topic in the whole 'O'-level syllabus because it builds up the foundation for other topics.
The structure of metals is positively charged cations in a ' sea of delocalised electrons ' (metallic bond). Hence metals have high mp/bp because large amount of energy is needed to break the strong metallic bonds. Metals are also good electrical conductors due to the sea of delocalised electrons acting as mobile charge carriers.
Metals are also malleable and ductile because of the regular pattern of cations of the same elements and the layers can slide past one another easily. The sea of delocalised electrons present will hold the metal ions together unless a much greater force is applied
