Chemical Bonding is the MOST important topic in the whole 'O'-level syllabus because it builds up the foundation for other topics. In this video, Mr Chua will go through Ionic Bonding which is one of the few bonds in the chapter (others include covalent bond, metallic bond).
Ionic Bonding involves the transfer of electrons between 2 atoms to form ions that have stable electronic configuration (8 valence electrons). Cations are positively charged which means they lost electrons. Anions are negatively charged because they gain electrons. Mr Chua also bring you through how to draw a Dot-and-Cross diagram for ionic compounds, highlighting the significance of the dots and crosses.
