@StanBennet Man labor equates for at least 70 to 80% of the costs, and then you have to add the cost of the field turf and machines used to help transform the football surface to baseball as the rest of the cost.
Stadiums cost a ridiculous amount of money to build, and there is costs for upkeep as well. 250k for 8 games = 2 million. That particular stadium had a $293 million in renovations in 1995.
And in addition, the demand of stadiums has made it where modern stadiums are about a billion, such as Cowboys Stadium and the new Santa Clara Stadium.
Somebody didn't exactly do fact checking when they said about 11 years for the new stadium design. The newer east stands were done in 1996 so it was 15 years when this video was made. It was a big improvement over the old bleachers which took four days to put in.
@mustang6172 Yeah. It would be nice if the Coliseum had what other arenas have (like the ones that host hockey AND basketball, for instance). Retractable seating is a must, but what I like to see is that they can be able to automatically switch between baseball field and football field just like the University of Phoenix stadium (yes, even if it means using artificial turf).
Hopefully, if the A's get a new stadium within the Oakland-San Francisco-San Jose area, THERE WON'T BE ANY OBSTRUCTIONS TO THE VIEW OF THE MOUNTAINS. No more Mount Davis.
I think when the raiders move out of Oakland Coliseum into that 49ers park possibly the A's should keep playing in the coliseum and make into a baseball only park like tear down that grandstand and add more seats for baseball and renovate it into a baseball only stadium, Baseball only
It would be unlikely the Raiders share a stadium with the 49ers, what is probably going to happen is the Raiders will move back to LA into that new stadium being built around the same time the 9ers go to Santa Clara. As for the A's, they would need to be bringing a lot more fans in for that to be possible. Even with the success they've had this year they have only been averaging around 35,000. AT&T Park has 10,000 more a night and is way smaller. The A's, sadly, will move to San Jose.
Oakland Coliseum the last Cookie Cutter Stadium left in baseball/football. I dont count Metrodome (Minnesota), Sun Life Stadium (Miami), Qualcomm Stadium (San Diego), and Candlestick Park (San Francisco) because the football teams ONLY use them now. Come on Oakland bring out the big bucks
the as are trying to move to san jose and leave the colliseum for the raiders only, i personally think that would be a good move, because right now the colliseum is a little big for baseball, because it has to save room for the raiders
@ gtavc94 It's funny I remember opening day between the Jay and A's was switched to the A's triple A team stadium because construction was still going on the centre (I am from Canada we spell center the british way centre, no idea why it is different) field stands. It is funny you say to tear down the centre field stands and build a separate stadium. I think the current stadium is horrible for baseball but if the old part is tear down and an identical centre field stand is built on the opposite side it would be a great football stadium and the A's can build a baseball park or move to montreal. I seriously don't know how baseball fans put up with that dump of a ball park. It is great it is still there because that was the stadium Robbie Alomar hit one of the biggest homer runs in blue Jays history (1992 playoffs game 5) but that stadium sucks.
So. 25 million dollar stadium.... They've done this over 50 times. Let's assume 50, at 250000$ each time... this equals to $12.5 Million. (In an 11 year time span) so in 11 more years, we'll have another 12.5 million... bringing the total to $25 Million. (or the cost of a brand new stadium).... WHY OAKLAND? WHYYYYY
The city of Oakland and NoCal (whatever the locals call the region) seem to be the only people with any sense. The would rather keep that disgusting stadium and go through the conversation process instead of wasting public funds on a stadium. Do the Raiders try to schedule mostly road games at the start of the season so this conversation doesn't have to happen much when baseball and football over lap? The only other stadium that does this dance of switching is Rogers Centre but unlike that joke in Oakland it was designed to flip seamlessly is field turf and lower bowl seating that rolls on rails.
The raiders WONT MOVE TO L.A they Mark Davies already said it even the Nfl said it .. LA stadium is to beat up thats out of the plan will see 2014 !!!!
