Oaklands Mayor Sheng Thao; a tough week for Oakland following the FBI raid

Why is there a deficit? How about cut the salaries and or cut the council member seats, they aren't doing anything for the city as it is..

She should resign for the sake of the city but she won't and so we continue to spiral down the crime and homeless path. The one GOOD thing she can do is give Oakland a chance by allowing new leadership. She's lost any support and that was dwindling.

You guys wanted this! When the police was doing their job, you condemned them for it. Now no one wants to be a police officer and you're still blaming the police department. How do you make public safety a priority when you don't support your police department???

The FBI should set up a whistle blower program of there own for Oakland city employees. Until that happens they will never know how much corruption goes on in all the different departments

People only catch a break with Thao if you slip Sheng money. What needs to be done ? Toss Sheng out of office and the DA plus other soft on crime city council people. Why do people want to live and work in Oakland if crime, open air drug use, homelessness is rampant ? End sanctuary city policies across the state

I drive through warm springs area in Fremont and Milpitas and yes, I do smell the paint every day from Tesla. Yes, this is a daily smell over the area from Interstate 880 over to 680 the pain smell is very strong over 20 square miles.

It's been a tough couple of decades for Oakland, and the current grifters are doing nothing to improve Oakland.

Ngl it does look like a very coordinated effort to oust her. Has Oakland ever had a good mayor? I doubt whoever replaces her will do any better, especially if they come from the elite class. Maybe she dealt with some bad actors but my gut tells me her heart is in the right place in that she’s driven to fight for the people and not the elite class.

Slash social welfare spending, not essential services. As for the stadium, it was built and paid for by taxpayers. If she sells it to a private group, the money should be directly returned to the taxpayers, either in a rebate or tax cuts. Not to bailout overspending by an ineffective government. But the citizens of Oakland are getting what they voted for.

There comes a time when you have to be the bigger person and set your ego, self interests and biases aside. If your in a leadership position and role, and are not able to properly perform, you don’t have to admit guilt or blame others, just step aside and say you will devote your time to address the issues that are detracting from your ability to perform properly and then come back at a later date. Just my opinion.

The Oakland government should give jobs to all the homeless people cleaning the city. They should build buildings with apartments where they charge 300 dollars a month and rent them to the homeless, give them jobs and a house and pay extra if they have information about places or people who are dedicated to crime and they know everything that happens on the streets.

I do not know Theo well enough? And why her home was raided? If she misused funds?

I have no clue what is going on here. However, I was a bit turned off when Sheng Thao started dumping on preppies (I am one). I don't think the FBI gives them a lot of extra courtesy. However, top prep schools do produce a lot of highly intelligent and excellent lawyers. If you went to one, you usually have access to extremely talented lawyers, if you need them badly. In my school these were people with 160 to 170 IQs (and some with less). The FBI may be wary of such people.

I'm tired of seeing this ignorance towards policing. You don't necessarily "need" police in the way that people keep demanding. This is so stupid. People literally have no way of understanding how to solve problems without throwing police at it. The fact is that you need support for children and youth so that they don't become problems. If anything, you need policing for adults who re-offend but so much of that money needs to be placed into the following: early childhood development, childcare, free lunch, counseling, after school programs, family services. If more money was put there you would see a reduced need for policing in several years.
