Take a cue from El Salvador and jail the gang members... it's not rocket surgery. How about starting a program of arresting dirt bags and keeping them in jail so this doesn't happen in the first place?
@@SCabanlitProductions It’s not just Oakland that’s like this many parts of CA are witnessing society’s decay. Skid Row, Downtown San Diego and many encampments in SF and Sac.
@@middleguy1776 actually no. This is all a protest against poverty, segregation, and white supremacy. The 3 issues that are the most relevant in Oakland. Committing crime is simply a protest
these are the times we're in. nothing makes sense. men are women, women are men, neither are men or women... we have an animated corpse for a president...
I refused to pick up a person with uber somewhere there because it looked so unsafe in the middle of the night with all those burned cars. It seemed to me like a scene from a scary movie. Oakland is sad
Dear KPIX. I've been critical of you for ignoring crime and drugs in the Bay Area. It seems you are starting to listen. This was a good story, and hope you do more like this. And good luck to the community activist he has my support.
That poor FJ Cruiser and it’s owner! Those things are $50k+, and the owners are often very fond of them! Very loyal enthusiast fanbase! Someone misses their FJ.
@@thomasgentry6201 I didn't hear him say the auto thefts are the railroad's fault. What I did hear him say is they are responsible for keeping their grounds free of those cars that are sitting there.
seems like an entrepreneur with a flatbed could come make a dime salvaging the cars, but then the city probably has some kind of laws or policies preventing this... because that would make total sense in our upside down world 😂 "let the process work"... meanwhile nothing happens. 👌
Completely unaddressed -- "we can't do anything if someone moves into it" then "what about the owner?" -- So someone's car get stolen and stripped and someone moves into it, but there is nothing the owner can do because... what?? Squatter rights? That's fucked up!
Blessed I left Oaktown in 2017. Back in 2015 it really seemed like it was turning. That mix of art, style, and grit was bringing in young professionals. Those days are gone. Now it’s trash. Never thought I’d say that. I was there for a visit recently and I saw it first hand. Awful…
I lived in Oakland from 2004 to 2014, which was a great time to be there. It did start to turn around 2015. A neighbor friend got mugged a block from his house shortly after we moved to El Cerrito. Left CA altogether in 2021.
The whole culture of the state is to enable criminals, by believing that a kind and gentle approach will persuade them to change their ways, the only thing it accomplishes is to enable them and embolden them, but I guess it keeps the "woke liberals" from rioting and burning the entire state.
This is what happens when you are too chickensh*t to defend your own neighborhood. Government ain't gonna do anything for you but maybe show up to take reports, if there might be some wealth in it for them that they can steal.
cops are held to higher standards and they need to act like spiritual leaders. criminals have total impunity to do whatever they want. protecting the community is the last thing anyone wants to do in this countyr now.
Laws protect criminals' rights and make it nearly impossible for law enforcement to enforce the law. The ones that are brave enough to enforce the law are often vilified, and the criminals are portrayed as their victims. They need to start voting for a government that will protect the working class, not enable criminals, drug addicts to take over their cities!
That one lady said when she bought her house there was trash all over the front yard. Why would you buy there? Just why. If you paid me, i would not live there
If it can be cleared, I figure the home itself was her main focus. If the home is in fairly good to great condition, the garbage is the least of her worries. In my neighborhood in NYC, some people will have homes that get little attention paid to the front yard. You sometimes get ignorant people that will dump their unwanted things in that yard or on the sidewalk. Eventually someone may track down the owner, then offer to buy the house after checking out the interior of that home.
People in the Bay Area compromise because housing is expensive. There was a trend of gentrification up until about 2015 so you could buy a house in a less savory area and newcomers who cared (and had money or time) would help to clean it up. That has clearly changed, now going the other way.
We're still waiting for rogue PD personnel to be held absolutely accountable for defunding themselves. The truth is everyone can sit back and point the finger. The bottom line is everyone needs to be on the same page for things to change.
Cars full of fingerprints could help the police close cases, start new cases, make connections between cases. Being stolen you'd think law enforcement would want to have a look at them.
The scary reality is that there is a revolution taking place. USA is not exempt. The bigger you are the harder you fall. There is so much crime and lawlessness that the police cannot keep up. The people will eventually overthrow the government. In fact, they already have. It's called Homelessness. We are witnessing first hand the decline and imminent death of America. Be careful out there. It's every man for himself.
Which party actually actually gets things correct? People are picking between bad and worse. At this point one can point the finger but it’s not like would be so much better if the opposite were in power.
Retaliation is real. I reported a bunch of dumping and homeless encampment...a bit later I got a notice of violation on my property (dumping and graffiti). They were going to charge me $1700 if i didn't clean it up.
The police COULD finger print these unburned cars and stake out the area and catch thieves. But they won't do anything to solve a crime or improve their City.
The people living in that city know who is doing it, but they won't do anything to stop crime or improve their city. If they don't care, why should anyone else care about them?
@@chillwill5080 None of the people interviewed were happy about this. Nor did they walk up on these car thieves and try to ID them because they will get killed. Cops make $100k in Oakland. They are supposed to solve the crimes. No one is happy that Oakland is a dumping ground.
gary indiana, Cleveland Ohio , Detroit Michigan , St Louis, OAKLAND ca , and non and on... Sadly there are a few common denominators and its so sad... The grift stinks and the poor seem to vote the "governing class" into these places and wonder what happens
Born in Oakland in the late fifties. Grew up in West Oakland and was proud to live there. Super liberal politicians are destroying Oakland, San Francisco, Bay Area and the California in general. Moved away in my thirties. Only retuned to go to Warriors, A's and Raiders games and to eat. Not anymore because all of the sports teams left or are getting ready to leave. Too dangerous to go for lunch and dinner there. Sanctuary city and state has turned out to be a horrible idea. Oakland and San Francisco look like 3rd world cities right now. Going to get worse. I told my wife we should have left 3 years ago. Not hating on anyone, just speaking the truth. The amount of trash and dumped cars and trucks is unreal. This cancer is spreading throughout the state. And the homeless problem is another issue.
It can take months, and up to $100,000 to evict a homeless person from their stolen car home. When the final paperwork is served, the tenant often moves into the stolen car parked behind the previous stolen car residence. When the tow truck shows up to tow the stolen car, they find a new tenant has moved in.
WOW this is SO disturbing in SO MANY WAYS and ALARMING because aside from all the other issues that go along with this the method of recovering trashed and abandoned cars by city used towtrucks is just dragging them across the road and up onto the trucks that's GOTTA be scarring the road GREAT JOB SECURITY for ROAD REPAVERS if theyre even giving a shit about these streets and areas
Whatever you do, don't arrest the criminals. The law-abiding citizens should have to worry about the problem. Keep electing the same people and keep getting the same results.
don't day know thousands of people already left oakland and the bayarea because of this and the homelessness and drug activity n the streets of the bayarea
yeah had my honda accord stolen and found it in oakland back in 96---they took my rims and sound system...insurance paid my car as totaled but it still drives like normal. i got 8k from it and a car that still runs..no dent and the engine was ok..i put back my stock sound system and stock rims...sheeeitt i drove it for another 4 years and got free $
Perhaps Union Pacific could get together a train entirely consisting of flatcars, take it to the area, load the derelict cars on the train, and take them all away; something needs to be done to clean up that area. . .
You said it all. We face retaliatio, agression and can even be sued or labeled if we try to defend ourselves, neighborhood, business or homes. WHAT IS THE MAYOR, DA AND THE MAYOR WAITING FOR?!...
The people that live there pay their taxes and get no services from the city. I'm sure anyone who has the mental capacity to fix these issues has long moved out of Oakland and DNGAF.
Is Oakland considered a city which belongs to POC.? In other words do all the POC live ,eat, raise kids, shop, clothe, etc for free together as 1 love unit ?
So it’s LEGAL to live in a car!!!! Guess I better rethink rent. Rent a storage unit and get a gym membership for showers. The lack of enforcement is LAUGHABLE
