In this video, I am making ONE exfoliating lotion bar. Here are the measurements I used and a cheat sheet for you to scale this recipe to your own size molds...
Materials:
12g beeswax
6g shea butter
6g cocoa butter
12g coconut oil (or chamomile or other herbal- infused coconut oil*)
Optional: 9 drops of lavender essential oil
Optional: a few drops of Vitamin E oil
2 tsp of old fashioned oats (dry)
1/4 tsp dried lavender flowers
Easy Ratios for scaling product to your container:
1 part beeswax
1 part butters (half shea/half cocoa butter works the best for me!)
1 part coconut oil
Dilute essential oils to 1-2%
Here is a very helpful chart for easier conversion. www.nowfoods.com/now/nowledge...

Instructions:
1. Measure beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter, and coconut oil and combine in a small heatproof bowl. Place on top of a saucepan with an inch or two of simmering water to create a double boiler.
2. Stir until oils and wax are completely melted.
3. Meanwhile, combine oats and lavender in a small bowl and set aside.
4. Remove melted oil mixture from heat and allow to cool just slightly before adding essential oil and vitamin E oil, if using. Stir to incorporate.
5. Sprinkle a pinch of oat mixture into the mold. Drizzle hot oils over the exfoliant mixture to cover. Now, working in layers, add a pinch more oat mixture, followed by a drizzle of oil. Repeat.
6. Allow lotion bars to sit undisturbed until the oils become opaque. Now, either leave them overnight to completely harden, or place them in the fridge for an hour or two to set.
7. When the bar is set, carefully pop them out of the mold!
To Use In-Shower Exfoliating Lotion Bars
1. Shower and wash skin as usual.
2. Warm lotion bar under water for a few seconds to soften. Then, rub the bar all over the body where desired to gently exfoliate and moisturize. The product will melt onto warm skin. Take extra care if you moisturize your feet to avoid a slippery tub!
3. Rinse any exfoliant off with water only and towel dry as usual!

Love the video! If I switched the oats and dried lavender to sugar, would it work the same, and how much sugar would be needed! Thank you and keep going your doing great!!

What a great idea! I haven’t tried this, but I have seen a few recipes floating around the internet that incorporate sugar, so I do think it would work just fine. I’m not sure how much you’d need but I would suspect a bit more than the oatmeal, depending on how exfoliating you want it to be. Thanks for your kind words and for the lovely idea. I think I will give it a try, too!

Great video! Is it okay to add carrot powder to this recipe? If so how much of it approximately?

What an interesting idea! I have never worked with carrot powder, although I have read it has great skin-loving benefits. I can’t think of any reason why you couldn’t try incorporating it into an exfoliating lotion bar. As for how much to use, I guess it depends on how coarse or fine your powder is and how scrubby you want the bar to be. I like to err on the side of using less when I start experimenting. That way I can always melt it back down and add more if I want. I would love to know if you give this a try and what you discover!

What are your thoughts on reusing the left over herbs from infusing oils in place of the dried flowers?
@TheCrunchyGinger

Hmmm 🤔 that is an interesting idea. I have never tried it, but I can’t think of why this would not work. Depending on the herb or flower, they might be a bit “soggier”. But something like lavender would probably still be exfoliating even after having soaked in oil a while. I might have to test this out! Please let me know your results if you try it!

@@TheCrunchyGinger I have lavender and calendula flowers left over from infusing that I am going to try. I will definitely update on you on the results. Another idea I had was coffee infused oil and using the left over coffee grinds.

I have experimented using ground coffee in the exfoliating bar, but it was a bit too gritty for me and kinda hard to wash off in the shower lol. It smelled great, though! My advice would be less is more with the coffee!

If you react to shea can i just do 12g of coca butter
@TheCrunchyGinger

Yes, I think you could use all cocoa butter. The bar will be a little harder (since cocoa butter is harder than shea.) But you could maybe compensate by using a little less beeswax.
