I'm Malay... I had notice the oppression for a long time now but I just kept it to myself because I know most malays would disagree with me. I just don't think we should make privileges for Bumiputeras and Malays only. But we should actually make the privilege for Malaysian citizens. I just don't think it's fair that we didn't get to chose what race we were born in, what religion we were raised in, or where we are going to be born. They never chose to live in Malaysia, their ancestors did. With the same ideals as our Malay ancestors. They want a better life for their children. And there's nothing wrong with that! We have 195 countries on earth with unrecorded amounts of race, religions and ethic backgrounds. When white people comes to our country. The very race that had killed our ancestors. The very race that oppressed us. We want to take pictures with them. We think they're hot. We'd think they're better than us. We'd buy them free drinks and openly try to start conversation with them. Deny all you want but that's the reality of our society. But when it comes to Chinese and Indian citizens, we oppress them unfairly. We don't treat them as they're part of our society but why??? We bow down to the successors that murdered our ancestors. But we can't walk on the same level as the minorities that their ancestors laid their lives for a foreign land that never had treated them well. I want the Malay society to understand, these people aren't here to take over the society. They're here to make a living to provide for their families. Notice how the Malays in the background were not applauding when the President talked about how Malaysia will not succeed if the non Muslims are discriminated against. For all their talk about their Prophet and the tolerance/equality taught by their religion, I am yet to encounter one Islamic country that treats its minority races as equals. But most, if not all Western countries do. Malays, stop being so insecure. Fight for what you want but do it based on merit and hard work, and don't continue to support the racist UMNO regime that marginalises your fellow non Islamic brothers and sisters.

But undeniably, the other ethnics have contributed to the economic prosperity and have gained much of the economic fraction through other sectors like business and services as well. Malaysia has shifted its economy from the reliant of natural resources (O&G) towards industrial manufacturing since 90s and this tradition continues under PM Najib's administration and has been a leading example to other oil producing country like Saudi Arabia to survive in the midst of global economic uncertainty. In case you don't know, Malaysia's GDP has been growing at a faster pace of 6.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 compared to 4.3 percent in the same quarter last year and I don't pulled this out of thin air as you did, go look at the Bank Negara's report. Even the IMF, ADB, and other global agencies validate Malaysia's economic performance after couple of years of assessment on Malaysia's economy and Malaysia is on the right track in its economic performance. The world can never be equal. Everyone is born unique and special, having different beliefs and views about life, about equality. As a child, we might want to be equal to an adult, making our own decisions without the need of parents' permissions(at least that is what we used to think). Yet is that logical to give children that so called "equality"? No! Equality can never be achieved, thus should not be pursued. What we actually need is a fulcrum for our society to achieve a balanced state where we can be closest to fairness. Let us look back to my analogy: the child should be given a suitable amount of freedom with a pinch of restriction. Although his/her freedom is not equal to the freedom of an adult, it is a balanced and logical treatment. However, my analogy is too vague to be used as a reference. These are just the thoughts in my head, I hope I am not offending anyone...
In Malaysia, 90% of quota for matriculation enrolment to public universities are reserved for the majority, while high scoring students needs to go through Higher School Certification Exams (STPM) which is one of the toughest exams in the world to get a chance to public universities. There is no fairness in the education policy of Malaysia, as it is heavily politicised with race that is quota driven ala apartheid
As someone who go through STPM. I can assure you it's hard. We speedrunning the subject we learn without full understanding. Heck, sometimes even when you study as hard as you can, it still comes down to luck through the exam questions you get. History subject for example, instead of challenging the students of their knowledge on this subject in a holistic manner, it just asks you limited number of question for essay. If your luck is good, the question can be easy but sometimes it straight up asking questions that we barely learn throughout our time in the school. Heck, even the reference book don't touch those topics in detail. Thank god I got relatively good result thanks to all the semester result being combined.

He is a die hard supporter of putting unqualified Black people into universities. And the Malays here that got to the top university, are not as qualified as the Chinese. But they worked their a** off and they often graduated, very few got expelled. In America, Black people are expelled from top universities all the time. The 2008 sub prime mortgage lending was largely due to politicians like him who consistently forced banks to lend to poor African American people (Supposedly racist to not lend to them). And its ironic how once he became president he demonized the banks and acted like a hero punishing the banks, when he was one of the people contributing towards banks bad debt. Barrack Obama is a freaking scam, and America is a lot more racist than Malaysia ever is if you really take the time to understand their system. I am a Malay. Just to remind my fellow Muslims in Malaysia in the Quran Allah has said among you was created many different races so that you can get to know each other and learn from each other. But Allah has said the best among you are those who are pious and afraid of Allah. Obama literally has quoted what prophet Muhammad has said, treat people exactly how you want to be treated and that is the most basic principal. He is right in many ways. Malaysia still has a long way to go, and if the people's mentality isn't going to move forward, then don't complain that our country is not moving as the same pace as our mind set. I've never really faced racism before, all my malay friends are nice and I'm quite close with some of them. My teachers haven't proven to be racist either. But I always hear that many (not saying all) malays tell us to go back to China, etc. First off, our ancestors came HERE. They chose Malaysia (or malaya). I grew up here, my parents grew up here, my grandparents, etc. I am not just Chinese, I am MALAYSIAN Chinese, and proud of it. Well I am a malay but I've never or have I ever even say that to any of my chinese or indian friends (basically to non-malays). What I'm trying to say here is that media have always manipulate people especially to the youngster. I think u don't really understand us, yes I would agree that there are Chinese ppl that just wants to make more and more money, but does that only include Chinese? Who in this society doesn't want to make money? I'm not here to blame anyone or criticize you, its just that we shouldn't judge ppl because of what color or background or ethnic we are in, if the person's character is bad,it shouldn't be because he is a Malay/Chinese/Indian, it should be bc of his own attitude. We should celebrate our similarities, not pick on each other's differences just because we were born in a different background. If we really loved our country,we should unite and look past these things, or else we would b the ones that are holding back our country's development. And the reality is that, not all Chinese are rich and not all Malays are poor. I feel your first argument is taken out of context. In America, the predominant language is indeed English, so obviously a person who does not speak the predominant language will never be considered for presidency. This is different in Malaysia, where there is no predominant language that stands out. Malaysia, being a unique case due to it's diversity in race and culture, has Malay, English and Chinese being spoken in equal amounts. As it is difficult for any person to master all 3, I believe that as long as a person is competent in Malay (being our national language), he or she is a viable candidate for leadership in our country. On religion, although it is true that America and its government have always been associated to Christianity, we live in revolutionary times. As the civilised world slowly moves towards a more progressive outlook on society, America celebrates its first black President, Belgium elects an openly gay man to lead their nation and the leader of the European Union is in fact a woman. I believe it is only a matter of time before America elects its first non-Christian president. That being said, I realise it is difficult for Malaysians - who are still deep rooted in conservative traditions - to edge towards a more progressive stance. But as Obama said, we need to be courageous and begin to stop marginalising 'minorities'. And this mindset NEEDS TO START WITH OUR GOVERNMENT. Our government is blatantly hostile to any person that threatens their sovereignty and their religion, which shows how infantile our leaders are. They need to accept that this is part of democracy. Change begins from the bottom, but often enough the top needs to show the bottom how its done. I really hope Najib takes the President's advice to heart, because if our government continues it's oppressive and hostile demeanour towards 'minorities' (which are barely minorities at all), I see little hope for the future of Malaysia.

Sadly it's noted recently by mahathir himself before the end of 2019 that he had given many chances for Malays to succeed in businesses but nearly none of them even took the chance he gave to the Malays. Even my father who is a factory manager had told me back when I was a teen that Chinese people work harder than the Malays. And my father and I were Malays.

At the very least Obama as the leader of the country has a firm view of equality and justice. Everything starts from the top, here in Malaysia the voices of grassroot were ignored...as for the hijab, you can't really blame them you know, there are cases where male terrorist took advantage of wearing the hijab to pretend as a woman to bypass security. The constitution are for protect the Malays and Bumiputra. Some fact people always deny is, although Malays and Bumiputra received those privilege does they get to survive in the future? The answer no. Malays and Bumiputra gets to enter local university, local scholarship, but that doesn't guarantee they get a better job in the future. Privilege is to help them for a moment not for forever. For Malays or Bumiputra who works in private sector, does their privilege gave them the opportunity to be in high position? The answer is no. People always state Malay are lazy, Malay are stupid and why they able to go to university, Malay is the only racist people in Malaysia and etc. I admit my race is racist but can you admit and face some hard facts that your races is not and never discriminate Malays and Bumiputra ever? The difference with Malays and the other races is, they directly being racist but other races indirectly being racist which mean one never knows until they get exposed. The mindset of Malaysian are totally different from Canada. How Canada can appoint different races and religion as the minister or a part of parliament? It's because even they're different, their mindset is same. To help their country and peoples, together be successful. However it's different with Malaysia's politics. Each races has their own agenda. To protect their own people/races. The things that need to change is the mindset and the system to be able to provide equality on all races. Last but not least, Malay people should wake up. They should start to change their attitude and start to workout on themselves to be the better race, successful race in the future. Malays and Bumiputra can't just simply rely on the help of government to get what they want, instead start to work on themselves to get rid of those prejudice title given to them. Until when we wanted to sleep and watch other races being success? Although some Malays state "World means nothing, we should works for our Afterlife by doing good deeds etc." Even Prophet Muhamad S.A.W who devoted himself to Allah, work hard on himself and the country. Logically speaking, if Prophet Muhamad really focus on LifeAfter, he shouldn't try to build a nation and successful country right? Thus, Malay should change their mindset and attitude for the better future of them and the country. And please Malay, stop using the term "Pendatang" towards Chinese and Indians. The term was used in the old days in British era when they brought in Chinese and Indian, when we are not unite yet. Now things change, stop denying these people's sacrifices and contribution. They've done enough. All races in Malaysia has done their part in different ways so stop using the term.
As long is there's a special privilege for the majority, the minorities will adapt an internal system to only support their own people because since we don't get those privileges, we got to do our best to help our people. Unfortunately that involves excluding the majorities, hence why a malay person cannot be promoted easily in a non-malay company because you are born with privilege while we need to create and preserve our people. Thus, the government needs to be clever about how to distribute all these opportunities so that they are balanced and fair. To make equality happen 100% is impossible because there will always be percentage of inequalities that happen as well. Thus, it's the government that needs to be smart on how to tackle this problem. I'm not saying this because I support the government's type of rule. I just look at it on both sides. I do admit the systems need to be changed, but it's easy to say as we don't look at the consequences. To execute it? Maybe we can wait till all the old people in "that" room have died, then we can proceed to make changes. About the racists, the reason for that is not valid. Here, in Seri Kembangan, there's factory that didn't want to take Indians as their workers because the employer said they're "bad." This is the place where my sister worked for a while before she resigned. You cannot use that reason to justify your racism. I didn't mean racist in the workplace, I mean racist in broad view. Being racist is a decision, not a choice. ... As a Malay myself, since young until I'm adult, I never get those bantuan zakat or scholarships, although my results are good, etc. I even got into university because of my good examination results, but I still didn't get to study the course that I applied for in the university. I just follow the flow. That is why I do not believe the Malay is given special treatment; or were given the special treatment but only in some circumstances. I only think the so-called privileges for Malay are meant for the "selected", not me or my friends who face the same issues.

I'm not from the kampungs; I was born and raised in the cities. "How many Malays?" It's up to them how they want to live their life. If they want to have 10 kids, it's up to them. I can't judge them. By receiving education through institutions, technologies, etc. People always think that only by going to the cities, you have the chance to develop yourself. My older sister didn't get to enrol in a local university, so she went to Kolej Komuniti by walk-in to the office and asked the workers there "Can I apply to study here?". Can we still consider this a Malay privilege? I'm not going to lie, she was seen as a stupid person just because she graduated from Kolej Komuniti. I'm not siding with the government. I do agree with Barack Obama, who observes this country as being here for 2-3 days only. The thing that the government needs to change is the systems. In the old days, during the British era, Malay people were called lazy because they didn't want to work for the British. The underlining message is that you've acknowledge that there's discrimination against the minorities when it comes to education and government sectors and in my defense is that everything starts from education. Education is a persons gateway to their respective future so being denied or oppressed from it will have its impacts on that individual future. Any country will never prosper if there's racial discrimination on education or/and health. Also the fact is that under performing bumis get more quota on government uni compared to over performing non-bumis. By your logic, if the aim is to educate the fools by placing them amongst the clever then how about the under performing non-bumis?. They don't get a chance at all. Personally I don't think Malays can get whatever they want just because the system supports them but I do believe that it provides the helping hand initially through education which will pave their future and not being able to secure scholarships or zakat is something everyone faces, even PTPTN will not give us a study loan unless we're under certain income bracket. It's understandable that not everyone can get scholarships or zakat because that involves public money but to be honest, that's not non-bumis complaint while the bumis need to understand that's how scholarship works. There's only limited numbers to be given but that has nothing to do with the cheap study price for studying at these government unis. See the Indians and Chinese have a different mentality, it's not about not being able to earn in kampongs but we knew there's wider opportunities in cities with it's stronger economy. You could have gotten into university solely because of your examination results but we know there are plenty other non-straight A's student that got it and plenty other straight A's non-bumi students that didn't. I've personally applied UPU many times during my earlier days, in fact waited for 2 years for any feedback but none, still meanwhile I didn't do nothing while waiting for it I moved to the city and made savings but the fact remains that no matter how long I wait, the quote for non-bumis is only 10:90. You've studied in government Uni so you'd know the numbers better than me. I'll disregard the whole British thing because as you've said, it's not relevant in today's age. Obviously these privileges on regards to education and government sector cannot be offered to all Malays and Bumi because there's only a limited numbers of seat available. For example if UM can only house 1000 students per year then they'll only select these 1000 candidates but what determines their selections?. It's the same 10:90 quota. In conclusion, when you use education as a tool to oppress other races, it will create a generation filled with racism not because of hatred they have for the Malays but for the opportunities they were not given by the system. Bumiputra policy is a curse for Malaysia. As the President said Malaysia will never succeed as Singapore as achieved in this 60 years. I was given equal opportunity by the Singapore government until today. After my A levels I was given a English Teacher job by the Singapore Government. If I am Indian in Malaysia I would have rotted by now unable to come up in life. The best part my children are enjoying the equal education and job rights. I have served 2 Years of National Service in the Army. I am proud of that and my beloved country Singapore. My two sons have served 2 years in the Army. I am proud of that too. My daughters are receiving quality tertiary education in Singapore. This is a sickening policy by the Majority people imposed on the minority Chinese and Indians. The poorest race in Malaysia is indeed the Chinese. Every state in Malaysia we see more of poor Chinese with economy are being control by Malay and Indian. The government is not being fair and that is why the Chinese is getting poorer.
I would say, economy wise. Yes, Malay people are running it. Indians do not get a working hand as much as you may think. We grow poor everyday. Malays get more helping hands. Take the Education department for an example, government college or universities tend to accept more Malays than any other races. I believe they have the right of getting in but its not fair when they do not meet the standard that they themselves put forward. I remember this one Chinese girl who got A+ for all her subjects in SPM and she got A in her Curriculum but she didn't get into the school she applied to while her Malay friend got 4 A- and the rest C's and B's and a C in his Curriculum got into the school she applied for. Another example is tax. If you go into a Mcdonalds or any fast food places, if you're a Malay, you get no tax. If you're not a Malay however, well you have to pay for tax. Don't believe me? Bring your Malay friend along and both of you do an experiment. Anyway, I believe equality is needed. I'm not mad nor do I hate anyone. I do not base hate on gender, sexuality or race. When government grant, SME business benefits, ownership of land, top managerial positions and industries are catered to the 'locals' ( bumi putera). It makes malaysia a very unattractive place to grow your business if you dont engage with politicians or appoint a 'local' to lead a project operation/ buy a piece of land. Well you might be earning RM 10000 by then but when currency value is low, and gula costs RM 1000/pkt or currency exchange 1SGD= RM 1000, (hopefully not), how would it look like it neighboring country singapore earns 5000SGD on average, would you think that we are living in a high income nation? Bigger numbers doesnt necessarily mean more money. Rising costs of living might just use up your whole monthly income.
Ok, let me just say that there is something very wrong here with the system. Since the government has been giving privileges eg. Business startup funds etc., but why are the Malays still, as a whole, poorer than the Chinese, after 50+ years? The states with good Chinese populations, Selangor, Penang, KL, are doing very well and are three of the richest in Malaysia. So, why, the Malays, having tons of benefits, their incomes remain lower than the Chinese, who had never received anything from the government? The Chinese only has a 19% space in uni, while Indians are just at 4%. Some Chinese had scored very well in their examinations, only to find out that they cannot enter their desired university. HOWEVER, the depressing thing is, their Malay counterparts, who scored some 5~10 marks lower than them, gets in. This is the kind of racism we're dealing with here, and this is why Malaysia's economy, with all it's potential, will not reach its potential as potential skilled workers are not being utilized. If there was no such policy that benefits any race, Malaysia would have been a high income, developed nation since like 2005 or so. The government is basically giving the Malays tons of benefits as that is the only way they can remain in power in the elections as the Chinese and Indians are already aware of the situation, while the Malays are not aware of the severe discrimination their fellow MALAYSIAN Chinese and Indians are facing. Sometimes, they feel like as if their country has forsaken them, and thus, lots of Chinese from Malaysia emigrate from Malaysia to nations like Taiwan as they do not have opportunities here.

This country was formed based on mutual understanding between all races those days (Social Contract), which Malay and aborigines had sacrificed their claim of this country to make way for Chinese & Indian Ethnics to be Malaysian citizen, while some of the countries like U.S.A, had implied those days to African immigrants (or slaves) to convert into Christian, using English name & totally prohibited them to practice their culture, until in the middle of 1970s only the tight rules of religion, cultural & racist separation had been abolished. 3. About the minority disadvantages in Malaysia, are the Chinese had been halt to live their life in Malaysia? No. We even celebrate Chinese New Year, Diwali, Thaipusam, as public holidays in Malaysia, as well as other religious celebration in Sarawak & Sabah. In U.S.A, had you declared, Eidul Fitr, Chinese New Year as public holidays? No. Did you finance the ethnic school & accept their education system in your country? No. Do you accept the cultural attire of different ethnics as part of your cultural attire in U.S.A? No. So please stop preaching about the equality to Malaysia. We are doing well here, nobody had been massacred here in Malaysia, because of they are not embracing Islam. 4. Last but not least, please take care of your country's economy first, before you can talk about managing economy in a small country like us. 5. My fellow Malaysian, as a Malaysian studying in Indonesia, I feel Indonesians are much more hardworking, fairheaded and self-dependent than you Malays. Indonesians are the more friendly than u malays. Indonesian government practices equality and adheres to their long tradition of Bhinneka Ika Tunggal ( We are all One) and Pancasila. And they look at others as an individual without hate. Yes, u may say they are backward but that will a statement of the past in the years to come. They are growing economically stronger. Their presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto will come to defend his fellow citizen of the Christian faith in Malaysia. I respect them for their sense of unity regardless of race and religion.
