It wasn't until after we booked our Austria-Germany trip that we first heard of Oberndorf. When doing some research and watching some RU-vid videos from other creators, we realized that it was such a special opportunity to visit this place during Christmas. The main reason being that it has the famous little chapel that sits on the exact site where "Silent Night" was first performed on Christmas Eve in the year 1818. We were a 10 minute walk to the Salzburg train station from our hotel and only a 30 minute train & 12 minute walk to the chapel and Oberndorf Christmas Market. We would highly recommend doing this little excursion from Salzburg if you are in the area and have some extra time to explore the surrounding communities.
