Nice job man, I’m upgrading the column in my Ranger to one with the tilt function since it didn’t come with it. Even though they’re different vehicles they actually still use the exact same column, lots of helpful stuff in this video even though we’re doing a different process.

Looks pretty straightforward but my F350 was a little bit hard to do. The steering wheel went back on and it looks okay so I don’t know what I did wrong, but I couldn’t get the blinker cancel cam back on. There was no way I could get the spring compressed far enough down to fit the cam on. I was wondering if you know what the disk with the holes on the bottom is for? I don’t have any locks for the shifter anymore either, it shifts without the brake on, and the column lock doesn’t work either. Hope it doesn’t decide to lock when I’m driving down the road. Oh well, thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video, do you have any idea what that three wire connector you said goes to the round drum? Someone swapped my column out and it’s not hooked to anything. 4:46

Could you put the newer column in an 80-86 f series? I noticed the bolts into the dash are similar.

I will be swapping out my 96 F250 Automatic column w/ tilt+cruise. I have to replace it, a 94 F150 automatic w/ tilt+cruise. besides the airbag(will be disabled in the f250) is there anything else that would stop that swap from happening? Thanks for this great video, it answered a lot of questions I had previously. Now the airbag in the F150 column is the only thing that concerns me.

No, 92-96 was the bronco and f150 the f250 and 350s ran from 92-97. Hope that helps.

Do you have recommendations on where to get the column for that price? I have a '94 250 and the cheapest I've found is about $500.

Man, as far as I know scrapyards and eBay are the best bet. Best thing about it is ford used the same column on 1/2 tons thru 550s those years so there’s a lot out there.

If you can get the column plastic cover off without removal go for it. If your putting in a whole new column and tumbler that’s fine. I removed because we reused the tumbler to keep everything keyed the same.

I just changed a column in a 97 obs and now it won't crank? I jumped it at the solenoid and it turned over. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The white plastic slide switch is mounted on the steering column and that has a be synchronized with the ignition switch. If you take the ignition switch out and take the slide switch off you can slide the linkage with a screw driver to get things synchronized again.

Disconnect and wait 30 minutes and touch your ground and positive cables together because it will discharge any capacitors in the system

@@AutomedicGarage i can't turn my ignition key because it was drilled out now how im i supposed to get the cylinder out so of i take the ignition switch lock off the white switch on the bottom of the column can i get the key switch cylinder out

@@davidholmes7215 the ignition switch at the bottom of the column has nothing to do with getting the lock cylinder out. I’ve been in your situation with some recovered vehicles before here and they all take some thinking and ingenuity to get them out. Wish I had a better answer than that but without being there that’s all I got.

When i bought my truck it wouldnt shift, it was the fuse for the gauge cluster and speedometer

Yes they can do that because a e4od and 4r100 shift based on rpm and speed, but did you not see how worn and loose this assembly was? A fuse wasn’t going to fix this not to mention the whole gauge cluster was working.

cant find an appropriate replacement column do you know if the LOWER bearing is available anywhere? Theres lots of uppers available but cant seem to find the lower

I’m honestly not sure. I would think there is. Memphis bearing has made bearings for me before.

@@AutomedicGarage Thankfully I DID find a column that matches! So theres a lever UNDER the shifter shaft just in front of the rear shifter shaft retainer. DOES THAT REQUIRE ANYTHING SPECIAL UPON SETTING THE SHIFTER SHAFT?
