I kept seeing Attack of the Saucerman on ebay and was tempted, but never took the plunge. It sounds a bit gruelling to be honest, so I'm kinda glad I dodged it. Blood Lines, however, is one I snagged upon randomly, so I'm glad to hear it's good! Didn't realise Radical made it, they were quite the underrated developer. Great stuff as always mate!
Bloodlines feels like a cross between Nidhogg and Power Stone. I could see it being a hit today if an indie studio made a similar game today with some refinement and online play
OMG Attack of the Saucerman !! Back in the day I tried everything to had this game, it was a must have for me after reading an article on an online videogame press ! But until today, I never succeeded on having it, because it was so obscure that none store had it ! And it's the first time I'm seeing footage of it hahaha.
Attack of the Saucerman was highely marketed game in Poland. Which is really weird. Cool to finally see it in motion. Sean, dont stop what you’re doing! You have one of better RU-vid channels out there 💖
Another certified banger. KKND was a neat little RTS on PC. Dunno how much it might affect your production, but have you looked into including more games per video? Like shorten each review just enough to add one more?
Every time I try to write shorter reviews they just end up longer. Really depends on the individual games but believe me I'm trying haha Unfortunately, my day job has gotten pretty crazy over the past few months so it's taking up way more of my time which is slowing me down making these videos. Right now the 3 game limit is a way to make sure I can at least get these out semi-regularly, but I have a lot of fun making them and if I get more time and can speed up my writing/editing process, I'd be happy to get more games into each video :D Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!
I actually prefer the more time spent per game it just gives you a little more info around why this obscure game is worth covering. adding 2 more games in the same length mean the time spent on soundtrack etc is best. Sometimes the best things come to those who wait,,, tik follows tok follows tik follows tok
I like its style, but if you put Attack of the Saucerman next to Terracon, it's like looking at different console generations. That Blood Lines ost reminds me of Acid Folk by Perplexer. Looks like a fun game.
Been binging your videos as I work and they are all so good. Also props to the guy who whoops at the end of the wheel spin... he gives a chuckle nearly everytime. I owned Attack of the Saucerman! I'd played the demo of Legend of Dragoon and was waiting for it to come out and my dad had promised to buy it for me. ... During the wait I saw Attack of the Saucerman in Currys or PC World and said I'd take that instead (in my defence my age was in the single digits). Thank god I ended up getting LOD anyway since it is now full of fond memories and AotS brings back feelings of "oh yeah... that was a game". My mum threw out AotS some years later and it's now £100 on ebay so thanks Mum! Thankfully I still have LoD which fetches a similar amount (not that I'd sell it).
Thank you! And great call on getting LoD instead, wish I had the foresight to do that back in the day. Ps. Nice to see some appreciation for whooping wheel guy, an underrated element of the videos for sure. 😂
I am enjoying blasting through your content today its really high quality great stuff. Of the intro videos here i own libero grande international and downhill mountain bike (i got this in a job lot of games including every tomb raider) and its really damn good IMO. I love the care to upload old tunes not on here and showing off the brilliance of this system
Dude i enjoy a lot your videos and the vibe of your channel! , could you consider to review a 4th game?, with the dinamic being one game chosed by your followers? Pretty please
That's not a bad idea! I havnt mentioned it before but I was planning on doing a fan special when I hit some sort of subscriber milestone. I'd get people to suggest one obscure game and one japan only game. Then I'd make a special episode for each, where its only fan suggested games in the wheel. Seems like a fun idea and a good way to give back to people who take the time to watch my stuff. So keep an eye out, i'll make a lil video announcing that when the time comes. So make sure to have two picks ready for just such an occasion 👀
Spent ages playin' the demo version of Blood Lines w/ my fam 'cause we could never track down the actual game anywhere. The day that demo disk died was a sad time indeed.
I tried Blood LInes on a Demo and I was always curious about a full version. A lot of developers tried the futuristic sport cool genre but nothing really ringed except Wipeout.
I remember the demos of KKND and Blood Lines (might have even been the same disc!) and for the former I had no idea what I was doing and the latter the spiky-haired dude having a really annoying voice, but I found the gameplay fun. Only discovered your channel recently thanks to RU-vid recommending me your Psygnosis video so have been slowly going through your vids from oldest to newest. 1995-2000 PS1 is totally my jam so we are automatically friends and I already have a few games to suggest for this series but need to catch up on the backlog just in case you covered them. I especially love your enthusiasm for the music because us folks that have A Bug's Life and Einhander tracks on a playlist are few and far between. Underrated PS1 soundtrack rec: Akuji the Heartless Keep up the awesome work :)
Bloodlines does look pretty fun! Now if I only had friends to play it with if I got it! The old console rts games where a hassle, I still recall the fun that was sucked out of age of empires 2 on PS2
Ayy I remember playing the Bloodlines demo with my brother ^ ^ We owned Unholy War too which was kinda similar. Also we never had a home PC either, and played the original C&C, Civ2and XCOM amongst other PC-centric titles on PS1, even got a PS Mouse hah Genuinely curious if there are any games that had demo disc demos, but never shipped.
The mouse was a game changer for PC centric titles! I used to love exploring the weird differences between demo versions and the final releases but I never thought to look into games that got a demo but never came out in retail 🤔 Off the top of my head I know there's a demo for a Titan AE game that never seen the light of day. I think it was delayed and eventually cancelled when the movie kinda bombed. I'm sure there must be many more games like it though 👀
@@SeanSeanson Indeed pity the list of supported games was so short, and the mice didn't last long iirc we had 2 and they both died within a year 😬 And ohh that's fascinating, scrubbing through footage, it looks like a mix of Beyond Good & Evil, Overblood 2 and that weird Psygnosis game O.D.T, looks ambitious for a PS1 game 😅 And yeah bet there are, always fascinated by that topic, sometimes I just get lost on sites like Unseen64 perusing games that never came out.
Sean my only criticism would be that I think whenever you highlight nice sounding music tracks, you should also turn the in game effects lower. Often they are too loud to really hear the "banging tracks" you point out to us.
Attack of the Saucerman. So that was the name of the game! I borrowed this game from a friend back in the day but I haven't been able to finish it. Man, these series is helping me remember games that I've used to play. To give context, during the PSONE era in the Philippines, piracy runs rampant and the law doesn't really care. Therefore, majority of PSONE owners in the Philippines have a modified PSONE unit that can play any games region free and of course, pirated games. Because of this. There were a LOT of stores selling pirated copies of PSONE games and were cheap as hell. If converted to USD, it was 1 to 2$ per game. So, you could imagine the abundance of obscure games that I've played during those days. Hopefully, I can find the game in this series where you play a character that can throw his head as a weapon and you are climbing a giant beanstalk. It has a cartoonish artstyle and all I remembered from its soundtrack is a woman singing the words "Let's go jack" twice then proceed to sing the rest of the song. It is only a short track and it loops. So, that "Let's go jack" got stuck in my head.
Thanks for sharing! Piracy wasn't as rampant over here, but I did have one friend with a chipped PS1, and visiting his house was always a wild experience, just piles, and piles of burnt cd-ROMs. We'd get to try the weirdest games... lots of which only came out in Japan so that is partly my inspiration for trying to revisit and discover them all years later. Also I think that beanstalk game is called Ten Made Jack. I've yet to try it but it's the kind of game that stands out from the crowd, so I knew exactly what you were talking about haha :)
@@SeanSeanson Holy crap! Thank you. It is Ten Made Jack. Man, I can finally go back and play this game after all these years. It is amazing that you recognise it through my description.
If you like C&C on the PS1, I'd recommend checking out Command and Conquer 64. It's a great port that benefits greatly from the N64 controller's extra buttons and adds 3D graphics.
I'm wondering if "Attack of The Saucerman" was one of the very last games to feature the old D-pad+L&R control schemes? If you remember in the year 2000 Argonaut and Fox Studios produced Alien Resurrection for the PSX. It actually featured the very first dual analog control scheme. Unfortunately, people like myself rejected it for this control scheme. Seriously, I hated it with a passion and swore I would never play a game that forced the use of said controls. At the time I had a Playstation, Saturn, N64, and my new Sega Dreamcast. In my eyes Sega was way out in front (they were until the PS2 launch) and as it had only one stick I was a'okay. I would change my mind after playing Time Splitters on my launch PS2.
oi Sean! A question here!! more like a thought tho. are you in any way got any plan to compile all your series and put it in blu ray??? you know like Gamesack.. i'll be all over it
As an owner of some GameSack blu-rays myself, I'd love to put something similar together. I would probably need to look into the logistics of it and also have the channel grow a lil more so I could sell what I make, but the idea is in the back of my head so we'll wait and see 👀
Never say never. Fan translations pop up all the time, and one of the oddest Japanese PS1 titles called MOON got an official translation just last year, so anything is possible!
9:38 nah all rts of the era are extremely hard and difficult to control there were just 2 rts games with RMB aoe and starcrft the rest are C&C ripoffs with the terrible one button controls the ai and pathfinding are ass cancer in warcraft 2 aoe 1-2 starcraft c&c 1-2-ra-1-2 dune 2-200 etc etc
