Comparing a Blueprint 195cc head to a Renegade 200cc head. This core is used by many companies under many names with few changes. Original name is Quantico cylinder heads. Based on a Dart Pro 1 design, AFR calls it a "Enforcer". Skip White selling them as NKB heads. FloTek also selling a version of this head. Power Products sold by Competition Products is also this head. Also DNA uses this core as well as Liberty and others.

Older vid, but the comments, especially yours are spot on. Months later...keeps getting more expensive to live. Good vid regarding the heads!

Afr in fact does have some of their heads cast in china because there aren't hardly amy foundries left in this country. I would bet they use better aluminum than the Quantico heads. Eric Wiengarner says the ones cast in China are actually a little nicer core than the the ones they cast over here.
@thereluctantgearhead4544
@thereluctantgearhead4544 Месяц назад
Yeah, pretty much all our manufacturing has been shipped overseas. Pretty fucked up. The aluminium being used in alot of these import heads is the same as the "domestic" shit. That's just how some people justify getting fucked in our own country on our goods. Shits all a sham. I have alot of cylinder heads from every era, gotta say some of these new import heads as as good or better than some older shit. Look at a pair of 90s Trick flow heads compared to a new pair of Promaxx Project X 215s. No comparison, the old shit looks primitive by comparison and the power difference is gonna be a shitload favoring the Promaxx heads. I don't like it either, but it is what it is and I live in reality unfortunately. People would never believe how much of their favorite "American made shit" is actually made somewhere else. They manufacture Made in USA logos in China. Imagine that. It's all by design to bring the USA down.
@thereluctantgearhead4544
@thereluctantgearhead4544 Месяц назад
There's more AFR head cores being cast in China than they are admitting. Don't be fooled. More than half of their shit is import now and all their intakes. It's good shit, but alot deceptive shit going on to fuck people out of their money thinking they are supporting the US economy when in reality it's all bullshit. Won't be long and there won't be any American made parts period. That's where it's headed.
@thereluctantgearhead4544

Funny thing is the few foundries left in US are using aluminium from guess where.....

The AFR Enforcers are Quantico head cores. They are well made. I've used them for years. Quantico cast cores, and companies buy cores by the trainload to finish machine and sell. Only a few foundries in China casting all cores available. Each have there own specific details. The one casting the Promaxx cores does a real good job. They look exactly like a pair of Brodix heads I have. Nice heads for sure.

100% Agree on your opinion of them going over seas or out of the country vs everyone buying up everything and them not being able to keep up! That's absolute horse shit! I mean any company would up production not slow it down or shut down

Yep, pretty obvious what's going on to alot of people. Don't think too many jobless/homeless people are building race cars these days. Most folks doing good to pay rent and buy food. "They" sent all our manufacturing overseas. All part of the plan to destroy America.

If all these head companies were outright copying each other, there would be lawsuits flying right and left. But they are all buying the same cores. Probably 10-15 actual head cores available that every head made is derived from. Just different machining and shit.

I know you seem to be a diehard old school SBC/BBC guy and might not have been able to make the same observations on LS or Windsor heads. I like Chevy and Ford both pretty good. I have a roller 351w in an F250 with a ZF 5 speed and I have been looking at heads. Everyone seems to like to shit on the Speedmaster/Procomp stuff, however if the same is true with Windsor heads as it seems to be with SBC stuff, I think I might just give some of them a try. They're as cheap as $650 a set assembled for 175cc heads, for a 25yr old truck that I was thinking about converting to a carb, doing a nice sized roller cam, headers, seems like they might be worth a giving a shot. I thought about getting the top end kit with 210cc heads, intake, rockers and valve covers for $1186 to future proof me if I end up building a 393/408/418/427/434 ci stroker later. The idea of using a piston for a 331 302 block(1.165-1.175" CH), a 6.2" rod and 4.25" crank sounds enticing as long as I make sure to use a small base circle cam and do enough clearancing on the block, there's not a lot of people doing it but, I know it's possible and will give me as much displacement as possible. The idea of using spacer bearings for a 2.75" main crank in a 3" main block seems like it might be dicey but, I know folks did it with old 348 and 409 cranks in BBCs for years. Love your stuff, thanks.

I like Ford's, built quite a few over the years for other people. I have a turbocharged 2.3 Ford I play with in a 96 Ranger. Has a T5 in it with a 4-10 geared Eaton posi 31 spline Yukon axles in a 8.8 rear. I have a 72 351 Cleveland stashed away I thought about swapping into it, but decided to see how far I can go with the 2.3 engine. Kind of a challenge. Something different for me since I've been stuck on the Chevy engines for decades. I started with Pontiac engines then ended up getting into Oldsmobile engines. Also did the turbocharged Buick V6s back in the day. Had a 86 GN. I just build alot of Chevy engines because they are cheap to build and have alot of parts available. Plus I have shitloads of them sitting around. I'd love to be able to afford an old 427 SOHC Ford engine to stick in a 71 Maverick. Maybe if I ever win the lottery. Those old 60s badass Ford engines always interested me. But they are expensive as hell and rare. The Windsor engines have alot of potential, they just need better heads.

The Chinese shit has gotten way better. Back 10-20yrs ago you couldn't pay me to use Chinese parts, but some of it now is as good as anything made in America. I don't care where shits made if the parts are good. There's still shitty Chinese parts out there, but it's not all the same. Check out Eric Weingartners channel, he just ported a pair of Speedmaster Ford Windsor heads and did pretty good with them. They are alot better than they used to be. He gets pretty technical on the details. Pretty good channel.

I'd recommend buying them heads bare and then buying good parts for them. The castings ain't bad, but the parts they include are questionable. Springs are usually weak. Valves are probably the cheapest valves made too. I wouldn't trust them. A cheap set of Elgin or PBM valves don't cost much and are way better than what comes in them. Definitely want good locks in there too. Preferably 10 degree.

I had a buddy back in the 80s with a late 60s tubbed out F100 with a Clevor 351 Windsor build. Used the 4V Cleveland type heads on a mid 70s Windsor block. Had some kind of Ford Motorsports Yates NASCAR singleplane intake on it. Heads had a shitload of work on them. Bigass cam and a lot of compression. It was a nasty street race type build, fast as hell. Probably had 600+hp NA.

@@thereluctantgearhead4544 I did see where he was talking about them, I check him a Vizard out. A friend of mine named Dallas Brown owns the AHRA, they just did No Name Nationals. He's doing a '63 Y body Skylark to run in a manual trans, small block, gasser race class and is building a Frankenstein Buick 350 for it, it'll be the first car to attempt to compete with something other than an SBC or SBF, I've been helping him out with it. I'm fascinated with all the things he has found out about parts interchangeability between Buick 215, Buick 300, Rover V8 and Buick 340/350. I have an LS1 04 GTO 6spd that I have to put an engine in after an accident siezed the original not long after I did a cam, headers, tune and a Silverado 2500 Reg cab long box 2wd 6.0/4L80e with 320k miles that I am thinking about turning into my first turbo LS build after I build the trans and either refresh the engine or swap in a less valuable 4.8/5.3. I do what I can in my gravel driveway in the trailer park in South Central TN.

I'm buying these bare from DNA motoring on eBay and slapping them together. Guessing I should get some gains from the camel hump "fuelly" heads on a street 350. AFRs enforcers 8mm stems ain't worth the extra money. I'd rather use that money saved for the gaskets and comp cam to go with them.

@thereluctantgearhead4544 Год назад
Some places sell them assembled with good parts tho. Skip White sells them with PBM valves and Comp springs, retainers, locaters, and seals & locks. They also do in house valvejob and hone the guides. I bought a pair of them and just took them apart to check them out, all was good and I stuck them back together and bolted them on a shortblock. Been in my truck a couple years now, runs like hell. Zero problems with it.

@@thereluctantgearhead4544 I opened the pinch, smoothed down the guides, port matched to a felpro 1205, opened up the bowls just a touch and port matched the Victor Jr intake to the raised runner. The intake ports are raised .100". I had to notch the bolt holes in the intake gaskets to get them to work. I think there's at least three different versions of this head, one standard intake port location, one rained .100" & a vortec port opening. I bought mine bare, bought the more experience pbm valves with the back cut, comp 987 springs, comp everything else and arp 7/16 studs. Then I had a valve job done and had the guides checked and had him assemble them and set spring height. Then a year later afr came out with theirs for what I ended up in mine. Figures. This started out going to be a 350 with vortec heads, turned into a 383 with a big hydraulic roller cam and these heads. Have you ran into any trouble with roller rockers? I tried scorpion rockers and with the +.100" valves the rockers was on the outside edge of the valves. I just ordered a set or backset rockers to correct the geometry.i wish I had bought the atk 195 profilers with the standard exhaust port location. At the time they wasn't much higher. Now you can't find them.
