A lot of students got stuck in this subject. Personally, I even asked professors for some advice, sadly it seemed like I got misled more. Thank you for the great lectures!

One hundred percent doctor. You are absolutely right. Understanding clinical subjects is not only done by reflected words off if a black board or a PowerPoint directly however, it may pass the exam but will not increase interest in the subject. Whereas, diving deep conceptually will intrigue the student into wanting to learn more. And that is why at the tooth factory we deliver the understanding that answering a “why” behind the “what” visually is the only key to understanding such a complex yet beautifying subject such as prosthodontics. Unfortunately our education system fail to blossom such interest in students. I find prostho best to start with the anatomy of TMJ and muscles of mastication chapter. It builds a visual foundation. Then moving onto raw definition to dry your mind out but get you familiar with the terms. Following that, we will pick up the chapter of Complete dentures and studying it in its 10 steps of fabrication one after another answers all the whats and develops the whys visually. For example, first step in CD is understanding the occlusions that are permitted in CD patients. What are they? Well, it is bilateral balanced,lingualised and monoplane. Now lets branch unto each separately with the why to be answered. Why a bilateral balanced? Then our brain tried to visualise it that because edentulous patients do not have teeth, they have no pdl. Due to which it is hard to keep the denture stable in place when they try to protrude and chew an apple. (Christen phenomenon explained) and therefore it is important to have all surfaces in contact, if not all then at least 3 points (2 posterior and 1 anterior) at all times. Now this answered two questions: what is bilateral balanced occlusion and why do we need it.

Following the same formula of approach of learning prostho in sequence of steps such as 10 steps of creating a CD, will pose hundreds of whats and whys. Eventually by step 10: we will know literally and visually how a CD is created and what different relations, teeth settings, and factors affecting all are needs. Later we would follow the lessons by the same process in RPD and then FPD while ending the prostho curriculum with CADCAM lessons.

That is an amazing question : So as a rule of thumb, when there is a problem in with checking in the patient’s mouth it would have been an impression problem. Meaning, when the impression was taken initially, it was incorrect and then we translated that onto an articulator, however, when we tried to check in the patient again, it was not being placed well. And the reverse is true for when it is proper in the patient’s mouth but not on the articulator. In this case, mounting was the process. All in all it is classified into two subtopics: 1.) your question is a part of “clinical error” 2.) second scenario explained above is a part of “lab error”

thanks for your great answer .. I really appreciate it, So my case was error during impression taking ? Or during mounting? And how we can correct that? For example, if it is due to the impression the denture should be created again !! @@TheToothFactory
