So much good and valuable information out there now , never forget in my early 20s thinking I was the only person suffering from this thing called OCD . This is now over 40 years ago and now with technology we can access all types of help in the comfort of our lounge room . Keep up the great work , I know you are helping people and that OCD is not a life sentence. Life is wonderful 👍

I really get caught up in the “it’s possible” about events that I’m unsure of in the past. When I try to remember details of certain events, my brain always jumps to worst case scenario. I usually stay there all day. I’ve never felt this before but I’m currently seeking help finally.

I want to point out something I think is extremely important for OCD. I got educated about OCD through various sources here in youtube, but nobody explains to us what normal is, what people think about or do. This education is critical because we can’t have a normal life unless atleast we know what normal is, and hence what is making our thinking so abnormal or unnatural. Even though this education is important, IDK why many therapists do not tell this to us with chronic OCD (who don’t have any clue of what life is)
@OCDspace412

I totally agree. Just because you have OCD doesn't mean you can't practice healthy thinking just like anyone else! The good news is that people with OCD already know what "normal" is, because "normal" is the thinking you do in all other areas besides the area of your obsession. Normal is basically trusting yourself and trusting what you know and disregarding possibilities that don't have direct evidence in the here and now making them relevant. I'm going to be working on another video soon about the "selectivity of the doubt" that talks about how OCD thinking is only present in select areas, and is absent in others.

Thanks so much for all you do for the OCD community, you have a very clear way of explaining these difficult concepts, and as a therapist I pick up a lot of helpful info by watching your video's!

I LOVE THE SHIRT!!! (Also ngl your channel is the most helpful OCD channel, I’m starting to prefer I-CBT over ERP a lot because I’ve already been analyzing the inner and outer machinations of my OCD a little)

Oh my goodness! You said this in a way that completely resonates with me! I have been in therapy for months and she is incredible. But I've never heard it put like this. Selectivity of the doubt DOES mean it's not useful to say "it's possible" as a logical argument. Thank you very much for this video. "It's possible" drives my OCD argument so much, and I thought it was actually logical until I saw your video.

I'm so happy to hear this was helpful. It can be so powerful to notice a bias in one's thinking that was going unnoticed!

What about the scenario when one has intrusive thoughts that so and so person dies ,its only an intrusive tjought that repeats in his mind and he has no control over it and that person dies ,so one feels guilty so the possibility actually came true ,how to get out of the guilt ?
@OCDspace412
@OCDspace412 6 месяцев назад
A broken clock is correct twice a day. Your thoughts will occasionally come true. The question ICBT wants you to ask is why you feel so guilty and at fault. You have to learn to trust your intentions and your desires, and reconnect with the real you. Being troubled by bad thoughts usually means that one is a person who cares about being good and doesn't like bad people and bad behavior. That's important self-knowledge.

I spend too much time calculating probabilities, rather than possibilities. How does I-CBT deal with probabilities?
@OCDspace412
@OCDspace412 10 месяцев назад
From an ICBT perspective. anything requiring you to calculate a probability is still by definition "a possibility" that has not been verified by sensory evidence in the here and now. Some possibilities may be more probable than other possibilities. But they are all still possibilities. They all take you into your imagination and away from the reality occurring right in front of you.

@shawnleong3605
@shawnleong3605 10 месяцев назад
@@OCDspace412 I actually am very on for it. Tbh I-CBT might work really well for this theme due to the narrative I conjured up in my head on the different possibilities that things could have "happened."
@drawn2myattention641
@drawn2myattention641 5 месяцев назад
And don’t try calculating probabilities of what is possible! I fell into that trap, and wound up obsessing about probabilities and percentages. Did I calculate them correctly? Am I safe at an 80%, or 75%, or 40%, or 10% chance?? Big mistake doing this! Instead, look to your immediate five senses and rely on their immediate information alone!
@OCDspace412
@OCDspace412 4 месяца назад
So true. Possible is just possible, no matter how possible! And the individual with OCD is not actually treating every possibility out there with this much attention. Just the possibilities that the selective and biased OCD logic chooses!
