This movie deserves way more love because it’s well executed. Gorgeous cast, wild heist, the Met Gala, the celeb cameos, the twist. Honestly besides James Corden being in this it’s a masterpiece
Olivia Wilde nod appearances 6:40 6:52 (backwards) 8:58 10:40 12:07 14:55 16:37 19:03 20:17 (and reversed 😜) 20:47 (✨fierce✨) 22:21 27:15 (and mirrored🪞) 28:43 29:32 (nicoschimpf6078 is slay) Special mention 23:42 🫶🏼 Now if I were to rank all of these, I would have to say Mirrored is my number one based off the sheer impressiveness that he could do that with such swiftness and haste and then Fierce need I say less.
a girl i know broke up with her boyfriend after watching ocean's 8 because she said she realized she was more attracted to anne hathaway in that movie than she was ever attracted to her boyfriend and she told him that lmao
The director said "feel free to PLAY with this character" but Anne Hathaway heard SLAY and gave us everything we didn't know we needed, tbh. She was riveting from start to finish. Truly MOTHER.
Surprised you did not address the implications of a woman who looks 100% identical to Rihanna showing up to an event very likely to be attended by Rihanna
@@radhiadeedou8286I think that’s why they had 9-Ball’s sister help them out, so that the audience could think that maybe she was the 8th member. The twist is still spoiled by some of the posters though
As a queer I bow down to whoever styled Cate Blanchett because I wanted every outfit and still do?!! The blue suit+accessories and green jumpsuit is seared into my memory.
I was rewatching S1 Desperate Housewives last weekend when a thought suddenly came to me: “I would live for a Mike’s Mic recap of this show”. Honestly groundbreaking
"Whatever happens tonight, I want you to remember one thing, you are not doing this for me. You are not doing this for you. Somewhere out there is an eight-year-old girl lying in bed, dreaming of being a criminal. Let's do this for her..." Tell me why I was watching this in theaters and tearing up...
to this day im so pissed that there werent sequals to oceans 8, they deserved soooooo much. and it would be so cool to have an oceans 9 and oceans 10, because it would connect to the other trilogy (11, 12 and 13)
Mike plugging his engineering degree, spoken-word style reciting Nicki and doing the Olivia Wilde nod more times than I can count all in one video is art
Exactly! The fan canon ships go like this: Debbie and Lou, Daphne and Rose (my favorites!), Nine Ball and Tammy and sometimes Constance and Amita as well. Love all the fan fiction with the Heist Wives lol
Lets be clear, Anne being apart of the heist has to be the third best part of this movie First: the iconic fashion and Debby Second: The rest of the diamonds being stolen whilst everyone is focused on the main necklace. On top of that this literally being the *sweetest revenge*
the way the whole movie I was like "why didn't they just put the fake jewels on her so they didn't know when they were stolen"... and then the master plan chewed me up and spit me back out. I love women in crime!
I unironically love this movie, actually. It's such great fun, the characters are great, and the reveal with Anne Hathaway's character was _delicious!_
It’s really interesting because stealing a massive diamond necklace and turning it into seperate pieces to sell, is literally something done by a group of thieves in the 1700s. It was a necklace gifted to Marie Antoinette by Louis XVI. It was said to be really ugly and too heavy for anyone to actually wear.
i think you’re talking ab the affair of the diamond necklace? it was actually a necklace commissioned by King Lou XV for Madame du Barry. Lou XV died before the necklace was paid for, and the new King Lou XVI and Marie Antionette refused to buy the piece. essentially bankrupting the jewellers who spent years and a lot of money making it. then this lady jeanne de la motte and her man did some crazy heist wit some forgery & then yeah took apart the necklace and sold the gems individually. they were just stealing from the jewellers, who were trying to sell the necklace to the king, and not actually the king & queen who never paid for it lol. also there is photos of it & i think its kinda pretty!!
Let's all take a moment to appreciate the work that Mike and his neck put into this video. Olivia Wilde related whiplash may be temporary, but Mike's sacrifice will be remembered for generations ✨️🙏🏻✨️
Breaking my youtube comments silence to announce that the euphoria of discovering this video exactly 8 minutes after its release is a high I'll be chasing the rest of my life.
'she loves to commit a crime in a clever and fashionable way' sums it up u are so brilliant for this video i was just nodding in sync the whole time. i soo love oceans8 this literslly feels like it was made for me
You’re allergic to missing sir. Truly. Ocean’s 8 was sooooooo underrated and I’ve always loved it cause it’s just a fun girl boss heist movie and we needed that 😌
Honestly the work you put into these is phenomenal. The part that really got the like button for me was the added information about French song being sampled by dr dre and blu Cantrell. NOBODY else would have done that for us. Thank you Mike!
I feel compelled to share that you influenced my younger sister to use the hunger games simulator on her class and I couldn’t be more proud of her. (She got 3rd place, was stabbed over a piece of bread)
re: cate blanchett's accent in this movie... i once had a coworker whose accent i could NOT decipher like i really believed she was australian but when i asked someone they looked at me like i was insane and said "she's from boston...."
the unforeseen drama bit is exactly what makes the italian job the perfect heist movie, you kind of never know how characters are going to get through different setbacks
Somebody said that we missed you and it made me realise how hard I've been fighting for my life waiting for the next video. It's cold in these street... don't disappear like that again, Michaelangelo
Just a fun addition to the music insight at 18:31 The song playing could also be Dirty Laundry by the band Bitter:Sweet who had a moment between 2007-2010. This song has been featured in Greys Anatomy, The L Word, Weeds, etc. They're also famous for their song Bittersweet Faith which plays in an iconic 2006 Bebe commercial with THE Mischa Barton slayying
This movie came out the year I moved away to Uni and met some of my dearest friends. We discovered this movie together and it became the go-to movie to put on when we were bored and wanted to get wine drunk. It's also the movie that started the domino effect of me realizing I was attracted to women. Like all it took was Sandra Bullock and Kate Blanchette being "besties👀👀👀" , Kate Blanchette in a powder blue suit, and Anne Hathaway acting like a playful evil bitch. The math was mathing and I started looking back at my life and putting the dots together. Anne Hathaway was a common theme throughout (god bless the Princess Diaries) Minus 1 point for Helena Bonham Carter's weak Irish accent tho. Like why did they make her Irish??? Why not just let her use her normal accent? It wasn't egregious or anything, it was just weak and a bit Americanized. Which just adds to my confusion of why it's there in the first place?
Cate Blanchett’s accent reminds me of the transatlantic accent favoured by Hollywood actresses during the golden age of Hollywood, and which Katherine Hepburn was famous for. I imagine that Cate probably studied the accent when she played Hepburn in The Aviator. When you mix in all the other accents and inflections she’s used in films over the years, as well as her native accent, it’s more like a trans-world accent.
My brother in law was locked up for 20 years, and when he got out his family took him shopping the same day because the clothes he was arrested in were HUGE on him, he lost over 50 pounds. Seeing him for the first time was kinda scary, he was almost skeletal. 🥺
That’s crazy they kept the clothes two decades!! Seems like they should let the person have a chance to get a “walking out” outfit if it’s been over a certain amount of years inside.
Okay but like I just started bingeing Mike and his Mic a few short weeks ago and I feel like his life has flashed before my eyes because during the hiatus since the last video he grew all the way up and is giving adult like no one has ever given it before and all we can do is sit down and stop talking and listen with tears in our eyes to the wisdom forged in the years he has spent in the parasocial trenches kicking and screaming and fighting for his life while we ate tacos on the sidelines.
As someone who had never even heard of the original movies when this came out, this movie felt like a fever dream in my mind. Lol the casting alone is still so insane to me and somehow I forgot this existed
Such a tragedy that this movie flopped so we didn’t get Ocean’s 9 and 10, so that the full series would have been Ocean’s 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 where half the series is total masculine energy and the other half is for the girliez 💅🏻
So excited to hear you’re in your writing era! I can’t wait to see how your creative pursuits blossom. This video was a much needed laugh for me. Good luck with the writing!
That's so wild about NY Magazine!!! Can't even tell you how grateful I am to the algorithm for pushing your essential viewing series on me - you're the reason I know who Gemma Collins & how I started watching TOWIE 😭 You can make me laugh even on days when depression is kicking my ass, so thank you. I've loved watching your channel grown over the past couple of years, only up from here babes x
I have spent years refusing to watch this movie because I knew that one day you would do a RU-vid video on it, and let me just tell you now I am so glad I waited because this is everything I've ever needed. and don't think we missed that gossip girl part 3 drops two weeks from now. I can't wait.
