I truly enjoyed the video. I live in Duluth Minnesota USA. I dive mostly in Lake Superior. The water is never warm. Average surface temp of 38-42 degrees. That’s 3.3 - 5.5 C. We have the best preserved shipwrecks in the world here but it’s an icy endeavor to see them! I’ve been looking to full face masks for comfort, and this video helped! Thank you for the great info and safe diving to you all!!!
Hmm… you didn’t seem too comfortable with it. You kept pushing on it when you inhaled. I agree. A small training course would help stop that. Takes getting used to. But! After you get used to them, these are fantastic!! Good job
What type of communication system were you using? That was an impressive communication demonstration. We had the Ocean Reef GSM G-diver communication system but couldn't get past garbled speech. We sent them in under warranty to Ocean Reef, and their top Italian tech was visiting and changed out the mike cables and tested them and said there was nothing wrong. We still had garbled speech with the exception of a clear phrase once or twice. We sold them off as well as our G-diver masks. My wife now has an OTS Guardian, and I have the Kirby Morgan MOD I.
They are a bit pricey, but I just remind myself that the price includes the regulator as well as the mask. Since I dive mostly in the cold Puget Sound, where a full-face mask would be very welcome, I'm setting aside a little spare change every week and maybe I'll be able to buy one...in 10 years or so. :-(

Hi Jeff, Jeff here can you clarify I know you touched on this below. As far as your recorded audio capture with this system. I understand the Ocean Reef com portion that attaches to the mask. SO did you use the Ocean Reef M105 Digital DC Surface unit to capture your underwater commentary, and if so this would also suggest you needed to attach a digital voice recored or audio sound recording device to the surface unit as well then sync the audio in your post production video edits, correct? Surface unit is quite capable for mission critical communications however for simple RU-vid videos quite expensive.
Hi Jeff, No I didn't use the Ocean Reef M105 Digital DC Surface unit, but it is a good bit of kit if you can go that way. I simply use the Ocean Reef mic hard wired to a digital micro recorder in a home made housing. It is then just a matter of syncing up in the edit.
Scubaverse thanks for your response. I have been thinking of doing the same with a Tascam DR-10L Portable Digital Audio Recorder in a waterproof enclosure cabled to the Ocean Reef underwater microphone kit to my G.Divers integrated mask. 🤙 Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
Certainly looks that way but the bubbles were hardly noticeable. generally if the tide or current is coming from behind, then as with all regs bubbles do get in the way
Quantum Ridley You still have to equalize your ears. There are plugs in the front that allow you to pinch your nose to enable you to equalize your ears.
I see what you mean now. There should be no reason to keep touching the regulator on the front. Perhaps he is just not that comfortable with the mask or something.
Scubaverse i think they meant if water got inside the mask. like in the normal set up you would just clear it by looking up and breathing out through your nose and the water flushes out the bottom. is it similar with a FFM?
+ DracariaEntertainment -- Yes, it's similar with a FFM, except that with this model you don't have to look up. With the purge valve being where it is, near the chin, you look slightly down if you're in an upright posture in the water, or just keep your normal swimming position if you're horizontal in the water. (Regular masks with purge valves in the nose work the same way; you don't look up, which would move water away from the valve. Looking up is for non-valve masks, so that all the water drains down and back, near the bottom skirt of the mask, to be blown out.)
Hi Ahmed, There are two soft rubber plugs in the mask that press into your nostrils if you apply pressure to the outside of the mask. It's very easy and effective.
Oh sorry about that. It really is a very comfortable dive and easy to breath. We have tried to adjust the sound but that's just the way it comes. Cheers, Jeff.
I dove a Ocean Reef Neptune II for 10 years and normal regs for 15 years prior... I will not go back to a normal reg again! It's THAT comfortable and easy.
I'm sorry but i'm pretty sure you did not put on your mask correctly in the video, top straps are sticking out too long so you did not tightened the straps in the correct order. First middle, then bottom, top last. One of those little things you learn correctly during the course ;-)
So JP, did you ever get around to trying diving? As one Patches Pal to another, if you haven't you should. For most people the anxiety disappears after the first few underwater breaths.
