Ocke de Boer ‘Higher Being Bodies’ - Interview by Iain McNay.
Ocke is the author of the book, Higher being Bodies, which is based on a non-dualistic approach to the Fourth Way. Ever since hearing the song, 'Why Are We Sleeping' by Kevin Ayers when he was a teenager, Ocke realized that reality was different to what he had learnt and wanted to wake up. He became a sailor when he was 16, worked in a youth prison when he was 20, and then started to read Ouspensky and Gurdjieff. "This was like coming home," he says. In this interview, he talks about applying sacred ideas and explains 'coating,' the dual-nature of human beings. We have a physical body composed of material from the Earth and a Kesdjan body which is composed of matter from the solar system. "I am the absence of my presence and I am the absence of the presence of my presence."

Ocke's book is highly regarded by those of us doing 'esoteric works'.....very real, very grounded and has the ability to bring the 'higher self' into communication. Thanks Ocke.

Great TALK. As a follower of Ouspensky's work for many years, I recognise the Conciousness in this man as he talks.

I felt Iain came across as a little impatient. I watch these interviews every evening, I find them relaxing and inspiring but that just made me uncomfortable. I felt sorry for Ocke. He seems very genuine and passionate, I liked him.

Part of the "interrogation" started, it seems, with the question "How did it change you?" The context of the question was about the initial encounter with the ideas, yet it transpired that Ian was seemingly looking for a answer about a transformation taking place over decades. Personally, I found Ocke's manner to be refreshing, direct and without a prerogative for painting a picture to be admired.

Possibly, but surely the whole point of these things is to make this knowledge available to those who do NOT yet see it. Otherwise, you might just as well have a little "members only" club and not bother with those in ignorance.

Margaret Anderson wrote in her book "The Unknowable Gurdjieff" that "you can understand certain things by explaining them to others". The Work is about understanding and practice. Not knowing. Too many talk, so few dare to suffer the practice. If you belong to the last mentioned, sure you can articulate objectively what subtle changes went on "you" along the way with not much language skills or vocabulary. In UK (conscious tv) there are remarkable human beings and students of the Work, with no written books behind, who could have been invited to talked about the deepness of the FW tradition, with the necessary rigor.

Facts become knowledge , but must be respoken to become wisdom. Finally , one may start to BE.

I loved this interview..immediately bought the books ocke wrote and talked about. I found them to be very useful indeed in enlightening me in certain areas that i was still unclear about. For this i thank him sincerely. Sometimes a fresh approach is needed..i am constantly reading the books ..each time learning a little more I would recommend these books to anyone studying the fourth way. Absolutely invaluable.

This was more interrogation than interview. Iain, really.

Well seems that Ocke was striving to be most present as he could and he was 'talking with his whole body'. It is really difficult to talk about such things with those who aren't in same road, so to speak.

I felt sorry for Iain, this was a hard interview because Ocke was hard pressed to talk about his personal experiences with the transformational qualities of the material he was presenting. It seemed to me he was just relaying book learning.

When you ask the question "Why did i t affect you?", the other person might not know & will probably make something up, if however you ask "How did it affect you?" they can draw on their past experience, this is just one of the insights of Neuro-linguistic Programming.

Alicea, your experience of this is so different from mine. I could not understand him. I wanted him to make substantive points and give clear explanations of his work. I felt embarrassed for him. This was anything but a great interview for me, uncomfortable viewing.

Self-remembering most likely comes from the turning around in Plato's analogy of the cave & Franz Brentano's "awareness of awareness thesis". Crytallization of higher being bodies most likely comes from Kierkegaard's Selfhood, Nietzsche's "Becoming who you are" & Taoism cultivation of the inner embryo.

if he read philosophy he must have read Greek philosophers especially Plato and his story of the cave that talks describes about the human condition i.e. living in blindness and what people see when they awaken

Self-remembering isn't just being "aware of what you do", but also being aware of that awareness, a form of Meta-consciousness

I get where's he's trying to go with it, but he's all over the place. "Self remembering", like remembering the eternal self, possibly... "Sensing yourself", like always being present in the moment... Connecting mind, body and spirit to fully interact with this 3-D world... Taking nourishment from multiple sources to feed all aspects of your "self"... It's all goof, he just needs to work on his flo. He needs to connect his thoughts together for these interview settings. I think we all learned something here. Read other books that aren't his. Haha

Most of Gurdjieff's ideas come from Western philosophy, both ancient Greek & modern, a small number come from Buddhism, Hinduism, Sufism, Taoism, etc
