J. Marley Good thought. I did throw some heavier stuff to see if there were bigger fish underneath. Didn’t make it into the video because I didn’t have any success with that.
I was there today and fished off of the same rock you were on at the beginning of your video. The wind was horrendous. Hard NNW. I started fishing for tog just past the railing, and three times I had albies busting 20 feet in front of me. I tried for them with a 2 ounce silver kastmaster reeled directly through them with no takers. I went back to the local bait store and bought a Deadly Dick. I then went out to end of the jetty where you were, I was also on the outgoing tide. But with that wind it was tough. I had no action at all. I plan on putting up a short video of how rough the water was, because I don't have any fish to show in this video.LOL The albies were busting on small baitfish.
George Shields I was wondering if they would be around today but I didn’t have a big enough window to get over there myself. In a way, I’m glad I didn’t go because it would have been hugely frustrating to be there casting to fish that were feeding but refusing to hit!
I think the albies didn't bite because I didn't match the hatch. They were hitting on small baitfish. My kastmaster had a larger profile then what they were chasing. By the time I got the deadly dick, they were gone.
Always good to keep a 5/8 or even 3/8 epoxy jig on hand just in case. You are right that the Kastmaster is more of a peanut bunker imitation, whereas the epoxy jig mimics smaller bait fish with more slender, elongated profiles.
