I can't afford this and have no intention of attempting it, so I don't know why I watched the entire video and memorized the steps anyway, but here we are

In 10 minutes you explain 90% of what I've been googling for the past week. Thank you for making my life WAY simpler! Also, I haven't looked but hopefully you do have that video about the knuckles. I have a Quest 2 and will be doing Virtual Production, and this configuration is fantastic because it means I have zero cables tying me down to my computer. So I'm really happy that this video exists because while I would agree that at the end of the day for gaming it might just make more sense to get an Index or Vive, the sheer power of being able to take the Quest 2 anywhere for gaming really does make all of the costs worth it. That being said, my main goal is to produce animations, which is really why I'm investing in this setup.

Oculus needs their own solution. Playing $500-$600 just to have full body tracking is kinda insane.

Complete Edit As of writing this is even easier now. No need to edit the settings file anymore. To clarify some things to those who have asked: Yes, you need base stations AND trackers to get full body. It works exactly how it is in the video, just install the latest version of play space calibrator direct from the GitHub. Then, when you're inside SteamVR use the slow option for calibration, as this allows it to gather more samples and be a little bit more accurate. Make sure only one tracker is connected to PC to make sure you select the correct option from the menu for calibration. Calibration will apply to every other tracker you connect after this so you only need to do it with one of them. No, you do not need to update firmware of base stations unless you have a breakout box and are connecting them to the box with bluetooth, otherwise just plug the trackers into USB and update firmware on those and that is it. The base stations do not need setting up either, they will show up in the little SteamVR window on your desktop when you turn on and connect your trackers. Playspace does not need setting up in SteamVR either when using Vive trackers/base stations with headset/controllers that use their own tracking method (Oculus or WMR with their own external or inside out tracking) SImply set up playspace like normal with headset, then use the playspace calibrator to do the magic for you with the Vive stuff. Do not connect tracker dongles to USB 2.0, otherwise your tracking for that tracker will be not so good. Do not connect your dongles into a USB 3.0 hub unless it is guaranteed high quality, otherwise, if it is cheaper Chinese crap, don't do it. If you do it and one or more of your trackers is being glitchy, then stop using the hub since it clearly can't support the bandwidth of actual USB 3.0 If using original Rift, yes, you need the sensors for the Rift. The base stations spit out infared light that only the trackers pick up on and interpret. You need the sensors for the Rift headset and 1st Gen Touch controllers. They are separate things and you need both. You need at least two sensors but three is better. Works great with original Rift CV1. Works OK with Rift S. Works a bit better than Rift S with Quest. Have no idea how well it works with Quest 2. Mileage may vary depending on how many reflective surfaces are in your surroundings. Using 2.0 base stations will offer better tracking/less glitches than 1.0 stations due to the change in infared light being cast by the stations. If you are having technical issues with your system itself, or have other questions, join the Thrill Discord server and ask people in there. I will not respond to any messages here in the comments.

Hey! If you are reading this and are planing to do this make sure to enable center play space (stage tracking) in virtual desktop. It makes it so you don’t have to calibrate nearly as much and makes the tracking just work better. I am only realizing this now and I’ve been using full body for 3 months…

Ok i finally figured it out. When he made this video playspace mover would move your tracker balls, it doesn't anymore. You have to go into vrchat launch options through properties and enter "--legacy-fbt-calibrate"

I've been using this same method for full body tracking for about a year now thanks to Artsy's tutorial. Works pretty great! I'm really thankful that the VR community got together to make the programs needed and it was nice to see that you made a really nice and easy to comprehend video on how to do the set up as well! Hopefully this will show people with Rifts, S, and Quest can do full body as well!

Awesome tutorial! Some extra key points: - Make sure your Oculus is connected and linked to the PC when installing, as this could speed up the process, immediately letting you know if your base stations are properly working. - Make sure to ONLY use the specific cable that came with each separate base station. If you accidentally used the wrong one, you will need to search for the method of resetting base station, which involves deleting the bin file in the firmware and copying over the rescue files inside steamVR's lighthouse folder. - Make sure that if you select slow or very slow that you actually move your controllers slowly. One likely problem: Since the Oculus doesn't connect via bluetooth, steamVR will not connect the base stations to your headset, preventing you from utilizing the power management system, forcing you to manually unplug the base stations.

NOVEMBER 4 UPDATE If you're looking to do this scuffed version, do know it has HUGE road bumps with a lot of troubleshooting when it comes to installing JUST the base stations. In order to make it work, period, make sure the stations are plugged in. With this in mind, make sure you also sync up your Vive trackers. This is actually shown in the video-- go to add controllers, activate pairing mode, and it should pop up. Now, with the stations on the walls plugged in (with a green light), and the trackers turned ON with the dongle in your computer, the base stations *should* appear in the SteamVR interface. From here, you'll be able to rightclick and update firmware. When he mentions "Edit the files", in the beginning, it seems to have broke on a recent update that makes it that SteamVR doesn't care about overrides in the files. By activating the Vive tracker and causing it to be tracked, it forces the options of the Base Stations to appear and track. The first edit, "Require HMD" would've allowed "turn on bluetooth" to appear within the settings, but because it's been patched, bluetooth settings will not work or appear (considering you're using an Oculus, not HTC headset). From here, do your calibrations with OpenVR, and you should be fine. I have no solution to allow bluetooth to be enabled and visible by SteamVR, but tracking still works. NOVEMBER 13 Update After weeks of troubleshooting, the EASIEST way to get help is by checking the calibrator GitHub’s page. There’s a lot of FAQ along with an active Discord that’ll help people’s set ups work. A lot of the issues I’ve listed are on the GitHub’s FAQ and Discord.

I use the same method for full-body, some notes sometimes you will need to recalibrate the trackers, but all in all, it works great and is a blast for those who can afford it. Nice video by the way.

I want to confirm this is a Great Guide, I have an Oculus Rift S, and I recently bought Full Body things: 3 Vive Trackers (2018) 1 HTC Vive 1.0 Base Station (initially to test) And a Tracker strap kit I followed this guide to the point and as a Result: Full Body Tracking WORKS even with one base station (will buy another eventually). Thanks a ton! Update: Bought the extra base station, and the track straps plus. Highly recommend the track straps plus for 12+ hours of full body time.

Helpful tip! When you start your calibration do the 8 figure and move around in your play area. Works very well!

Ok, being new to this it took me a while to figure it out, but the base stations won't get recognized until you sync the trackers to it. Then you do the update on everything. Seems to work on my Quest 2 so far.

This saved me from sending back the whole kit in defeat - now WE DANCE!

I have a VR Headset coming for my birthday this year, and for Christmas I was thinking about asking for the base stations and trackers. Since I am getting a Oculus quest 2, I was concerned that the trackers I've seen other people use wouldn't work with it. However I am glad to have found this video! It was a bit hard to understand, but I can always get my folk's to help me. They are smarter then me.

But just when I was about to order one I saw that it would be shipped in 8 or more weeks... I don't have that time. But I still want full body tracking. Now that I know that I can get FBT with the Quest it really looks like a compelling option :)

For people who can’t see OpenVR Advanced Settings or Space Calibrator on the SteamVR dashboard: go to your graphics card (Nvidia/AMD) control panel and add those two programs to your list of shown programs on your computer. Make sure each program is running with high graphics instead of integrated graphics and press apply. If you did it correctly, it should allow you to see the programs in SteamVR dashboard. You can also right click on the programs and run them with high graphics, but this will require you to open both programs like this every time, so it’s easier to change it in your control panel where the change is permanent :)

FOR THE OCULUS QUEST 2 USERS THAT ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE 2.0 BASE STATIONS NOT SHOWING UP ON STEAMVR. My issue was that my base stations 2.0 wouldn't show up on the SteamVR. I was on this problem trying to find a solution for 8 HOURS when the answer was simple. Make sure that your base stations are on, but the first thing you want to do is make sure one of your trackers is on, and you're set up and ready to go. With the 2.0, I didn't have to plug it into the pc to have it update. Turn on your trackers and make sure they are connected to SteamVR the same way that ThrillSeeker did. Once that is connected, make sure you're in view of the base stations, put it on your body, and just move around a little. The base stations should eventually pick it up and appear on the SteamVR if you did it correctly. I looked for a solution to his issue for 8 hours and managed to figure it out when I gave up and just tried to play to see what happens. Base stations 2 need to have something to track be picked up on SteamVR. I really wish they included this information somewhere that everyone could see.

Thanks had to go with this method because my valve index controller decided to break on me and had to get it sent back, while I was just wanting to test out my full-body that I just got.

I have a rift s and the base stations 2.0, ive been trying to connect my base stations through steam vr but when i look at "pair controller" my base station doesnt pop up

UPDATE: Steam vr just recently updated their software space calibrator wasn't working try to this again step by step update space calibrator 1.1 or just do the guide again it should work

You could also do Nolo VR as an alternative if you’re not willing to spend around $500, works roughly the same, only downfall is 180 tracking, but for me, it works very well

UPDATE (19/4/2021) for those who are using HTC Vive Pro Base Stations (2.0 Base Stations) and SteamVR only detects one of 2. Or if you cannot seem to get your Trackers to Pair (turn green) Took me 2 days to figure this out. But here's what I did. 1. I DID NOT change the config files, because somehow changing the files blocked me from adding my Trackers (3.0) into the SteamVR device options (your mileage may vary). i.e I could not get my tracker pucks to turn Green no matter how many times i switched it off and on or even hard reset it. 1 way to know that it works if when you are able to select "Add vive Tracker" or something along those lines from a list of 4 devices. (This is because I initially changed the config files and tracker seemed to be detected in the SteamVR window but I can never get the tracker's light to turn green) ***From this point, if at any point of time, you don't see your devices, and you are given an ***error (108)***, what I found worked for me was to turn on my Quest 2 headset, fire up Virtual Desktop/OculusLink+SteamVR, then click "Reset Headset" from the SteamVR window that pops up on the desktop PC, after the devices are detected. Then i proceeded to continue the steps. I had to do this multiple times. This most probably happens because I did not change the config file*** ***Steps 2 and 3 were particularly important for me to be done in order as the Base Stations had to have something to track before it shows up.*** 2. I added all 3 tracker pucks (under "Pair controller" settings) for convenience sake. ***Note: Further down in "Step 8" I'm going to switch off 2 of the 3 to only calibrate 1 as mentioned in the tutorial video.*** 3. I powered up only 1 BaseStation (2.0) (any is fine), and used a paper clip to press the small button at the back of the BaseStation. It can be a little hard to find but there'll be a tiny hole that looks like a "Reset" hole for standard electronic devices. But what this does is to change the "Channel" of the Base station so that they both do not clash. 4. Switched off 2 tracker pucks, leaving only 1 on. 5. Reset Steam VR. Have BOTH base stations on this time and only 1 tracker on still. 6. Move around the tracker within your play area that's visible by both base stations. Took me about 10-20 seconds of swinging my arms for BOTH BaseStations to show up as detected. 7. Turn on other 2 trackers and move them around to make sure ALL your equipment are detected. (i.e 2 BaseStations and 3 Trackers). 8. Turn off 2 Trackers (leaving only 1 on, we're going to calibrate next) 9. Download "OPEN VR SPACE CALIBRATOR" installer from the video description. Install. I restarted the computer just in case, so that I can test the functionality of the BaseStation and Trackers and to make sure the program is installed fully. 10. Fire up SteamVR from PC Desktop, (keeping only 1 Tracker, and 2 Base Stations on), I did the arm swinging thing and made sure all were detected. ***Note: Your other 2 Trackers should not be detected yet as they are still off*** 11. Go into SteamVR 's menu from your Oculus Quest 2 headset (I used Virtual Desktop for this step, but I'm pretty sure it should be similar for Oculus Link as well). 12. Fire up OPEN VR Space Calibrator and continue to follow the steps mentioned in the video from now on. 13. Selecting either of your controllers "Left/Right" depending on which arm you'll be keeping your tracker on. And your ONLY 1 Tracker on the right. 14. Select slow calibration, do the figure of 8 motion. 15. Turn on your 2 other trackers are calibration of the first tracker, and confirm they are in the right spot. ***Note*** 1 issue I faced while playing beat saber was that the moment my headset turned off or when I reset the position of the direction I'm facing, my trackers all go crazy, and I'd have to re-do the whole calibration thing. But this time I didn't have to switch off any trackers, and only calibrating the 1st one that I used. Another issue that I've faced when using LIV is that it couldn't detect my trackers during the avatar calibration. So I had to fire up SteamVR on my desktop PC, "Settings->Device->Manage Vive Trackers" and MANUALLY ASSIGN the individual trackers onto (Left Foot, Right Foot, Waist) accordingly. Hope this long summary saves some guys some time. ***Credits to some of the kind souls here who described their problems and solution in detail too, but this is what I found works for me :) ***

As someone that had to spend a LONG time setting this crap up (and by that I mean I tried, failed miserably, then came back to it days later and finally got it) lemme say some things for people using this in 2021! 1. Be VERY VERY VERY VERY careful about updating your base stations. To be honest, I wouldn't even recommend it they work fine without updating. I updated one of them and it broke. Apparently, there is a chance that the base station update will fuck up its firmware and make your base station basically unusable. And, even though there is a "fix" by steam themselves, it did not work for me. Apparently it not working is very common. It just blinks green and doesn't connect.Thankfully I only have 180 tracking at the moment anyway because I only have one oculus sensor (forgot about that lol). Just be careful! I'm still very upset. Too scared to update the trackers too.. UPDATE: the fix ended up working after trying it a third time. still would rather be safe and choose not to update lol. 2. You don't need to do anything with the base stations and steam vr in general. Just put them up, plug them in, and pair your trackers. It'll automatically find them! 3. I'm pretty sure the steam version of OVR Advanced Settings doesn't work once you download playspace calibrator. If you have that version, uninstall it and use the Github version. Just wanted to let people know as I'm sure knowing this would of saved me a sea of trouble. Everything else was accurate/helpful but I'll update if I remember things. Good luck and happy VRing!

Your video much more better and actually sheds deatil on issue I was having they weren't collaborating eith my body after 3 days trying I was ready give up keep running to issues after another trying set these up. But I found your video and you show one issues I was having once I fix that tmr should be decent and I can enjoy the game. I got these 2 weeks ago and been working on them every weekend.

Why am I watching this? I can't afford trackers. I barely afforded the Quest. I don't even need tracking because I don't play games with avatars. But I still somehow want to remember every single step here 'just in case', like the trackers and stations and Link cable will just drop from the sky and suddenly be available.
