OEM Toyota Tacoma Trailer Wiring Setup 

Great video, in California I followed all steps and got my 2019 Toyota Tacoma done in around 3 hours. Dealer wanted $600. Got this done for around $90 and all your suggested parts fit perfect, can’t thank you enough.

Great video, just finished installing this set up, finished installation in about 2ish hours, most time consuming step was running the power cable to battery. Super easy overall for somebody that has 0 knowledge about all this. Thank You!!! You saved me over 450$

Incredibly helpful video! Good to know about the reverse light (purple) wire as well. The only thing I did differently was instead of soldering the connections, I used heatshrink butt connectors. Either way, it works flawlessly & my Tacoma trailer connections look factory. Well done!

Great video, did my 2021 Tacoma wired up to my 4wheel camper. Just be sure to connect the red wire to the battery wire or your camper battery won't charge... Took several months for my battery to run out before I noticed it wasn't charging 🙄

Nice job! Followed your instructions on my minimalist model taco and looks great! Only suggestion is to recommend throwing away the cable you cut away with flat connector that came with the controller. Reason being idiots like me get excited and solder the oem harness to it instead of to the controller. Had it soldered, shrink wrapped and didn’t realize it until I started plugging in the tail light. Doh!!!

Thank you for this very helpful video. I was very annoyed to learn that the 4 cyl. SR Tacoma did not come wired or with a hitch and the dealer would have sent it out to have it done for $500, but it would not be OEM. About $220 I got all the parts from amazon, including the hitch. A five hours later which included set up and clean up and washing the truck, I had an OEM installation and I am very happy. Both the dealer and the installer they consulted, said that they could not get OEM parts and it would not be an OEM result. Nothing is hard about this project. It took the longest, of course, to route the wires and i am very obsessive and particular. One note is that the green wire from the 4 pin wiring kit that goes to the passenger side tail light DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANY EXCESS WIRE. I had to undo my first try and go back to the drivers side light and bring along every inch of the green wire and take the very shortest path, which could not always follow existing wire that goes over to passenger tail light. At two points I took the green wire through box frame areas to make a more direct path to just get enough wire to attach to the tail light. Thanks again.

Looks easy I just wanted to know which exact wire do I put the purple wire to on the reverse light?

If I want the red wire on the 7 pin should I tap into the 12v going to the battery?

Did this and added a Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty brake controller. Everything works except my brake lights and I have no idea why. Seems like if my blinkers work that the brake lights should work too since they're the same wires, but who knows. I tried unplugging the brake controllers to see if that did anything by going back to just the 4 flat connections, but no luck. Tested grounds, but still striking out. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears! Thanks!

Will the wire connected to the battery always draw power even while the truck is off?

Can you put the ground wire (after adding longer wiring) to the battery or a fuse panel under the hood instead? Reason asking is because someone told me the body or certain parts of a truck body are not a true ground?. I have a 6 panel fuse already.

Is this the system i need..? For my 2019 tacoma ??i can get my turn signals an parking light to work together. Its either parking lights or turn signals..?? If this is all i need then thank you.thank you..i worked all day trying to get my lights to work on my trailer

Did you reconnect the purple wire to the red wire that goes back into the original harness for the reverse lights? Or just connect the purple wire to the red one that goes in the bulb plug in part? I did everything like you said but my reverse lights aren’t working. It kinda hard to see in your video how you did that part

So if I don’t need electronic brakes or auxiliary power (red and blue wires) do I still need to wire it up to the battery? I heard if you do that the lights will always be on. I basically only need the four flat features. Also would save a bunch of hassle running the wires.

Could you just wire this up into the OEM connector for "just" the 4pin?

NICE 👍 THE ONLY THING THAT WON'T LOOK CLEAN IS THE BATTERY WITH EXTRA WIRING FROM THE POSITIVE TERMINAL... ADDING FOG LIGHTS AS WELL STARTS TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SPAGHETTI ...I THOUGHT ALL TACOMA'S CAME WITH 4 AND 7 PIN WIRING PLUS A TOW HITCH RECEIVER ?

I was looking for the wiring harness that connects to the OEM plug, i ordered it and once i receive it i will be running the wiring just in time to tow my new boat. QUESTION… can’t I JUst use butt connectors to attach the wiring instead of soldering them together?

Instead of soldering can I cut and splice them together using a crimped connector?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to run the power to a controller for light bars and stuff like the SPOD. Instead of going to the battery? Thanks!

I have a 4 cylinder but i also installed the bed liner lights. Now im confused.

Have you heard of any computer fault codes occurring from a procedure like this? It seems like ANY (electronic, primarily) modifications done to late model trucks end up throwing the computer module into a tizzy-fit... I have a 2021 Tacoma, and within minutes after installing something as simple as a locking gas cap, I started having prob's (3 different check engine fault codes were generated...I had to have the dealership hook it up and clear the computer module)... I hope that if I do this procedure you are showing, that I won't have problems afterward... 🤔😎 Addendum : one more question...you said that the 7 & 4 - pin connector (that clips into the tailgate/bumper area) is an OEM/Toyota part, correct? Are there any 3rd-party connectors that would work with my truck, to your knowledge? And also...your video portion covering the battery connection to the back was very short/lacking detail...did you have to drill thru the fire wall to run the wire down to the wiring bundle where it is zip-tied to? 🤔🤨

Do u have a video on how u can remove the 7 pin and 4 pin caps so u can use both at the same time....in case u were pulling a 7 pin trailer and running a 4pin tailgate brake light at the same time u cant with the caps or covers on it

awesome Video!!!! I got a question, My kit does not have the wire that goes to the battery.

If you wanted to connect the power wire (that you didn't on the 7 pin harness) would you splice that into the power wire you initially ran for the 4 pin harness from the battery?

Great video man! Seriously very helpful! I plan on trading this truck in within the next year, so I think I may hook up the extra wires as well for the next guy. So the purple to the reverse lights, the blue would be for the brake controller(not so much worried about that) and where would the red would connect to? is there a wire I can tap into at the tail lights?

So I did this in my 2019 and the left light is constant 12 volts I cannot figure out why
