At almost 80 years on this Earth, I've learned a thing or two. One thing I've learned is when you need helpers they will hardly ever be there for you. The older you get the more you have to depend on yourself. Why somebody hasn't given you your own reality show yet is beyond me. Great stuff thanks for posting
This is actualy his reality show. RU-vid is new TV, where anyone can run a channel. His friend Zach help him with technical stuff. He also has his own channel and do similar stuff.
The, “drive the truck into a tree to straighten the pole,” maneuver was the most daring, brilliant, and courageous thing I have seen in years. Bravo Greg!
Absolutely thinking the same, it comforting honestly I miss my Dad, the times we spent outdoors, him always having a bit to teach you, so I do get a lot out of watching, sometimes I just listen while I’m working. Bless him. And all your followers 🏕
My mans really finished the TP off by himself. His witty improvisation, outside the box thinking, and his ability to quickly adapt to his environment is what makes Greg a Top-Tier Survivalist.
I really appreciate how, unlike many youtubers, you honestly show your tries and failures. When I was starting my bushcrafty adventures inspired by some youtubers, I was frustrated about lots of failures I had - as everything was looking simple on videos, but not in real life. Now, after 5 years of solo hiking in wilderness (including lots of winter overnights), I have plenty of experience. Still, there is always a place to do something wrong or to face the situation when all you know is simply not working so you have to try and fail several times until you find a proper solution. I personally think your honesty is much more inspirational as it provides proper expectations and leads to much less frustration.
@@StinkyGreenBud For me I can't just leave family , sick grandparents in the city without protection from tyranny. I moved from a small town of Ukraine to near Seattle , US.. I really want to go back where i have land to farm and plant and have livestock, it will happen for me just a matter of timing
I spent 4 years in a 22 foot teepee after coming home from the Marines. I wasnt ready to be back from the war after 12 years and multiple deployments, I just want ready to be a part of society yet, so went to furthest part of of my families land back in the mountains and got my self ready to be home. The first couple times putting it up alone is a little challenging but once you get your system down you are golden. I miss the winters. I miss looking up through the smoke smoke flaps on a cold night and seeing the stars as I fell asleep. I wish I could go back to it now.
When the pole was sliding off the roof the fact that you ran it up against a tree had me rolling. So many people I know would have done exactly that but the rest of the world would have fainted. I loved it !
You've mentioned you spend A LOT of time reading bushcraft books. I wonder if you could do like a 'top 10 favorite bushcraft books' video or something a long those lines? It would be interesting to hear you opinion on the matter since you've read so many over the years and have so much experience.
@@kyle-qw5yx you’re right, my comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek. My biggest problem is being colorblind. I can’t tell the difference in a lot of the plants, at least color-wise and the few books I’ve perused didn’t really have the greatest pictures. That’s why I like this suggestion of Greg’s favorite books.
I seriously look forward to your videos! im a young man with dreams of being free in the wilderness living off the land someday but for now I live vicariously through you. You're the most wholesome and nice guy I've ever seen. I honestly wish the best for you from the bottom of my heart. Love from the UK my friend 🇬🇧 !
You are so amazing!!! Helpers didnt show up so you just thought outside the box, didnt give up and you got er done, all by yourself!!! Ingenuity, is your best friend, and you rock it!!! When life gives you lemons, you just make lemon meringue pie!!! Enjoy that yummy pie, sweets!!! And enjoy good nights sleep, all stretched out and comfy!!!
Always nice to have two guys .My wife and I have a beautiful teepee 22’ across the floor ,22 ounce canvas and 30’ poles. We also have a 6’ liner.Nothing better then listening and being mesmerized by a real fire while falling asleep in the teepee.Typically takes hour to hour and a half.
Love this guy, No youtube bullshit like ads and shoutouts. Just a genuine down to earth guy showing us his life in the rockys and having fun while he's doing it! Great content, keep up the good work Ovens! And watch out for them bears! :)
Greg I applaud you self - sufficiency and willingness to tackle these labor intensive projects on your on , and I know that it is difficult for a man that has done physical labor all his life to admit that he is getting to the age that it is time to get help on these heavy projects . I know that you are the kind of man that has helped others throughout his life to the point that he won't have trouble getting help . Take care of yourself ;we need you turning out these videos !
I absolutely loved the dialogue about the 'grass fed beef'! I laughed out loud....Great stuff! Hey, the rest of the video was all about self sufficiency. A guy has to do what he has to do.......a lot of the time on his own. Well done. Well fed dog too. Thanks for sharing.
How can you not love Greg, he is like watching a smarter version of Mr Bean, but in the wild. If it wasn’t for the way you are Greg I would never of subscribed, your awesome! I can watch you all day!
I work like a dog all week it sure was nice to come home on a Friday night and watch this quality video. I sure appreciate the content you provide. Keep up the good work.
You did a great job by yourself, so much for your help showing up, just think you owe no favors now! I really like the mosquito magnet I looked that right up the mosquitoes are really bad and eat me alive. I am getting that trap!
Brilliant! Much better than manicured TV shows (where an expert who's done it a thousand times and an editor who cuts out all the hitches), make _it_ look easy and _us_ feel stupid. This sincere diary of Greg's, snags-n-all, is much more realistic. And inspiring too - because we can see we don't have to be a super smooth experts, to enjoy taking on an adventure and muddle our way to a pleasing success.
We use to feed our cows old dough from a factory that made pizza dough. It was leftover stuff they couldn't sale to the public and we got it in 55 gallon drums. The yeast in the dough would make the cow's almost drunk. It made them calm and easier to handle. Great job Greg, keep up the good work.
I heard that the cow pens in Kansas would buy bubble gum and all kinds of garbage to feed to the slaughter cows just to keep them alive and pack on the fat
i just watched season 3 of Alone for the first time and the first thing i did when it was over was to look you up because you seemed like such a genuine person and i was hoping you were doing well! I'm so glad to see you’ve grown a following and are still sharing your knowledge 🙌 wish you all the luck!!!
Hi Greg, don't stop making great videos, I'm watching your videos more than once because I'm using your videos like podcast or background music when I'm studying. You actually helps a lot man, actually, the only video that I actually watched from you is you're 30-DSC. And the rest, I'm using it as a podcast or some sort of background music. Keep it up man, I'm glad that I met your channel ❤
thípí - “thEaP-Eee” or “They Live There” my Lakota ancestors could put the up and take em down in less than 30 mins. All the furnishings as well (there were many essential in a home, and set up in a specific way according to the directions. The door faces the East to be in harmony with life (rising/setting of the sun)
Great video. All that effort makes for an intense sense of accomplishment and awareness of what can be done with the right mindset. Thanks for sharing!
Just amazing u are greg. Nothing stops u getting something done its truly awesome to watch your videos stay safe and well much support from south Australia to u and fin ❤💙💚💛💜💓💕💖💗💘💝💞💟
Hello Greg, I discovered your channel about 3 weeks ago. Just in time. The content help relax my mind and takes my imagination far away. I really enjoy your program. It is therapeutic. I feel like I knew hop - a - long in person, and I felt sad when she passed away. That speaks to your sensitivity and love for the wild, for animals and people as well. Please take care of yourself. I hope one day I can do a survival.
I think I’d prop that door piece up and create a roof over the entrance and then make a smaller door hole piece with screen and plastic window. An old friend with lots of teepee experience said the inability to see outside was his biggest gripe.
There's a great satisfaction in doing a lot of the work yourself, so much for the others showing up. I believe your hard work ,and the Colorado Yurt Company giving you that yurt had something to do with advertisements yes,but also knowing you'd use it,appreciate it ,and put the work into living back to basics. ❤ Beautiful yurts !
The Canvas and Pine Poles must add a SCENT of the Old Outdoors, far from the synthetic, F- one 11rip stop nylon, and carbon fibre assembly of modern tents, although they can be carried on your back. One or two fires in that tee-pee and the fragrance will be amazing. Air BnB that Baby. !! Awesome.! Now for a talented Graffiti Artist to complete the exterior walls. Cheers!
If it was spray painted you couldn't use regular spray paint cause it would ruin the natural smell. If Greg was to do that I would recommend using the brand 'Sugar' it's all natural spray paint that smells sweet. It's huge in the graffiti scene here in Sydney.
Your ingenuity is off the charts! Imagine what you could do with a winch mounted to your truck? I would save to buy one, it opens the door for more Greg “McGiver” adventures
I'll have to agree! I had it years ago, before I started connecting what I was eating with what I was eating!! Can't seem to get past that anymore, but LOBSTER liver taste better than any other CRITTER liver I've ever eaten!!!
@@dannycurtis2591 I wonder if thats the mustard in a crab? to me the best liver is fresh deer liver, cooked with onions, diced garlic and bacon. I'll take it over backstrap any day
Two things I loved about this video was him fixing the poles on the roof of his truck by hitting them against stationary trees and the bit about A&Ws Grass Feed Cows. Lol
Glad you kept that seafood to yourself Greg, Finn would probably be fine with it, but garlic and onions are toxic to dogs...really hard on their liver.
Maybe taking a 6’ piece of rope and tie in a loop, by tying the ends together. Then put it on the bottom of the lifting pole as a prussic knot. That would give you a handle to lift with.
Lol! "It's not like I have it on backwards right? Nah I... Wellp actually.... 😂😂 Glad to see someone who'd share their delicious dinner with their pup like I would also. Great video Sir Greg! 👍
