This is a re-upload, we know this video still freezes, but not as bad as the first one. We have taken down and uploaded it several time and each time it freezes in different places. We've been in contact with youtube again and they say they are working on it.
Something went wrong the first try. We chatted with youtube but we didn't get any clear answers as to why this happened. There is also something wrong with the previous vlog we uploaded (#43), so something is not right, but we don't know what. We have not changed anything about what we do in the video making process, and all our other videos seems to work fine.
We apologise to those who already commented on the first try (vlog#44) that we had to take down.
Episode forty-four, in which we go fishing in the early morning fog, visits another active fäbod not so far away from us, and finally starts doing something about the earth cellar project
This is a vlog about our struggles and joys of living off the grid in the forests of Jämtland, Sweden.

Oh, this makes me nervous, something is not right with either youtube or our video files we upload, the weird thing is that the video plays nicely on the computer, the problems only shows when it has been uploaded to youtube. I've been working on fixing this for hours now and am very tired. This version freezes as well, but not as bad as the first one. We've been in contact with youtube and they have promised to look in on it. /Mathias

Your videography is superb. Quite artistic in fact. With few words you tell a story with great content. Don't be so hard on yourselves, you have achieved a lot. Enjoy the journey as this is a huge part of life and the experience of living. The loaf of bread you baked was not a failure. Some of us are too scared to try things and that is failure in itself. Keep your heads high and be proud of your achievements. As the saying goes a journey of a thousand miles starts with a small step. Cheers from New Zealand.

@@Talasbuan yes.........I am holding back the tears.....because where you live in Sweden looks exactly like where my ancestors....the Lofgren family.......homesteaded on Pickerel Lake in Northern Minnesota. I grew up cleaning fish, and picking wild blueberrries in the Northern Minnesota forests. The reason that I am holding back the tears, is because my Great grandfather committed suicide......he must have been so very homesick for Sweden, and yes he was a dairy farmer.......I grew up brushing the dairy cows, and bottle feeding the calves.

I, too, am savoring this sharing, this enfolding into the lives of ones who are becoming as family, gradually. I have been known to 'binge watch' other vlogs but I think I would be sad if I did the same with this one. Much the same as if I ate a weeks worth of fine meals in a day. Much better to push it out and get more in synch with the life and the seasons being shared. Thank you, Talasbuan....

I so admire your honesty (both of you). When the bread is a "little" overdone you admit you need to fine tune your technique and when the house design gets changed, you own up to being new to it and having no idea how to go about it. How refreshing!! Most builds I have watched on RU-vid seem to be self promoted professionals---and they're obviously not! Great video and thanks for giving us the sound track otherwise I would have missed a classic part of the vlog.

I love everything about this one. Born, raised and now homesteading in Wisconsin, "America's Dairyland" I can appreciate all the traditions and work ethic from the Swedish (Nordic) immigrants who carved out a life here. Beautiful video of the fishing as well! Yes, we should all take lessons from our elders and what an honor for you to share what you're doing. Good job!
@johnmanning4577
@johnmanning4577 3 года назад
Being an elder myself, I enjoy the times your projects and chores carry me back to boyhood days spent on my grandparents' ranch. The hay was cut by horse-drawn sickle bar and pulled into windrows by a horse-drawn spring-toothed rake. The lanes were graveled by horse-drawn scrapers. Fence posts set in hand dug post-holes and held firm by hand tamped earth added bit by bit. Not too much at a time, the lazy way, because the posts will become looser that way. Cows milked by hand with a ring of feral cats employed in the barns and granary to keep the rodents down. They knew that sooner or later he would send an arc of warm milk their way. My uncle shooting squabs in the barn to reduce the pigeon flocks with a small bore shotgun and to add some deliciousness to the stewpot. Grandma making butter and washing the buttermilk from it on the drain board for the water pump while I worked it by hand to supply fresh cold water from 25 feet below. Grandma cooking on a wood stove and gauging the temperature of the oven by holding her hand in the oven and counting the seconds until she was forced to yank it out. Grandpa slicing farm cured and smoked bacon into rashers as precise as anything from a commercial slicer with a freshly honed butcher knife. The bacon fat collected to eventually be made into soap when mixed with lye extracted by running water through wood ashes from the cook stove and the fireplace that was the sole source of heat for the house. All this from the 1940's and you bring me back to it as I watch you build your future. So, yes, I think I can relate how the elders felt when graced by your stories.

A great attempt at bread...It's hard in a conventional oven, and even trickier in the woodstove! With a dutch oven, you don't need a roaring fire, if the oven is up to temperature, you can let the bread bake for a while. I find it takes about twice as long in a woodstove as a conventional oven. I use bread pans, and cover them with foil to prevent the crust burning. It takes practice, but it can be done! I love your videos. It's wonderful to see others who live similarly to my family. Always so much to be done :)

You're very welcome. You could always make flat bread instead. That's much easier on the woodstove. I've been trying to get my stove going for the past hour so I can make perogis for tonight. They can be finicky things!

You have many comments about the cinematography, and I would like to add that also every single scene has so much entertainment value that keep us engage and coming back to binge watch all the vlogs. I saw no flaws this time, i think its ok now! :) As i said yesterday, stunning drone shoots, and thank you for showing the beauty of our country, the nature and old soon forgotten culture, crafts and tools, if we are not careful. I saw a comment below that the scenery brought tears to the eyes, and a can second that, it was something really special about that lake, sun and the boat. Well done Mathias! I think it is quite rude of your chickens to laugh at you and the building you are making, but i think they shut up when the word slaughter was brought to the table! 😂😁 Good job you guys, and have a great weekend!

You can try to make french biscottes with that too baked bread. Sourdough is just fermented dough, more flavorful and digestible. Bread is baked when it sounds a bit hollow when you give it a thump with your finger.

Good try with the bread, you can not learn if you don't try. The loaf of bread looked like a black rock ! :)

In this kind of condition, you have to keep checking on it and do not use the lid while baking. For this size of lough most likely 35 minutes is enough.

Yes we get the lag here also in southern OREGON. It just freezes the picture on the screen.
