A very pleasant presentation. We have just acquired a similar induction device, because propane price is soaring here (NE USA). Yes, I have DIY solar for our house, but still retain grid capability for those long cloudy spells, especially during Winter. Best of all, my wife likes the induction unit!!! My next goal is to add sufficient solar panels and more lithium batteries to run our small AC.

Useful video thank you. I have just bought an instant pot cooker, which is a combined air fryer and pressure cooker I'm hoping to run it on a very similar set up as you have. I'm trying to get away from needing to use gas . Here in Europe each country uses different regulators for gas cylinders. So it's a hassle on a multi country road trip. I'm going to get an induction hob even, if I only use it to boil a kettle it will worth the cost. Liked and subscribed.

Love it Darryl! I have lived on solar now for 10+ years have 360 watts of panels triple that of battery storage in the USA, you do not need that many things to run on AC most also have a DC version now. I have always wondered why more households don't use solar, the cost savings alone in DC circuits compared to running AC is a cost savings. I heat & cook mostly with wood gas as back up.

Right on! Converting to lithium and solar for off grid “glamping”and was wondering if a 100ah battery connected to a 1500w inverter would make our nespresso machine work long enough. Now I know! Your 250w panels can only refill 20% of that battery on an average day… did I get that right? Great video, thanks!

So far we've not taxed the initial system overly, however with the upgrades that will change, I'll probably be adding more solar to it. We also tend to tour more than just stay still for long periods, so charging from the vehicle as well seems to top things up quite quickly.

That Readarc is a rebranded samlex/cotek it’s an extremely efficient and dependable inverter with low standby power they are made to get used and abused day in day out in mobile applications still not really worth buy if you are a light user it’s more suited to someone who lives in their van full time it’s peace of mind knowing you will always have power, I have 2 3000w models that have been working for 9 years almost daily and have the 700w model in my van right now that I use the recharge my delta pro while I drive

@DarrylSheather

the Renogy batteries have a data port that you can connect a bluetooth module to (they have an app that goers along with it). Else you can just get one of the many battery monitors that attach with a shunt to the positive/negative sides.

Thus is all good.... one thing to bring to your attention with this test is you using figures based on what your doing now.... in the real world with using power over night although a small amount and then cooking breakfast in the morning your recharge time and power will be a bit more than stated in this test... I would increase you battery bank and solar input to help offset

After several trips it has worked without fault and I consistently pull 1600w from it. I messaged Kings technical department about a remote switch and they had no idea what would work. Did you get one for it? BTW. Your battery has short circuit protection so not a big issue without a breaker.

How would that fair with an AGM battery.. we are casual campers and just got a 2nd hand camper with agm battery. Going to 4wdsupercentre tomorrow to get the inverter 😜
@DarrylSheather
@DarrylSheather 3 года назад
Generally it's suggested not to run AGM butteries below 50% of charge where lithium is quite happy to be discharged to 80-90%. So I'm suggest you'd need a much larger AGM compared to lithium to run an inverter, depending what you want to use the inverter for. Coffee makers and induction hotplates generally use 1300-1500w or power so are quite power hungry (although a coffee maker only runs for a very short time). If you are looking to use low power appliances or short time frames you'd probably be ok depending on the size of your AGM battery.

A very helpful video! I have a very similar setup in my van and looking to change from gas to induction cooking. I noticed that some induction cooktopa on lower settings still put out a lot of power like 1000W, but switch off every few seconds to get an average of for example 300W, which I don't like. The one from Ikea in your test at level 5 was lower than the higher setting, do you know how much amps it consumes on even lower settings? Level 1 should be around 12 amps/ 150W? Thanks and greetings from Greece.
@DarrylSheather

I have to recharge ever 3-4 days but even when I use the Grid it costs me 50p/ where as cooking from the grid would cost me £4.50 for 3 days here in the UK right now. @DarrylSheather
@DarrylSheather Год назад
Hi Warren, The coffee machine is a large pod Nespresso, its good but locks you into the buying from Nespresso for pods. If you used a normal pod size machine you can pick up the pods in your local supermarket. With the Ikea induction hob it's a 2000w version, however because it has 9 settings you can have it drawing a minimum of 150w. Level 7 is 1500w and we never use anything over this, in fact we generally use level 5 or 6 which is 1100-1300w. Hope that helps.
