Walter Brannon has been described as one of the finest characters actors of all time, but off-camera he was notorious for being hateful, racist, and bigoted. Besides just having some very backward views and ideas, he was remarkably paranoid and always thought that the Communists were plotting to take over the world. Was Walter Brannon really as evil as people say he was? And can you think of any other Hollywood stars who were just as racist and hateful as Brannon? Let us know in the comments.

Born in the late 19th century, Brennen was an immensely popular character actor in the late 1930s and early 40s in particular. He was a master of his craft who was awarded three Academy Awards for best-supporting actor for his roles in 1936s Get It, 1938s Kentucky, and 1940s The Westerner.
Seeing as how Brannon was once considered to be a legend of the silver screen, it really begs the question - how is it possible for an actor to win three Academy Awards in a period of five years and then end up being all but forgotten about? Walter Brennan's acting career might have started out strong but owing to how he was typecast as a cantankerous or lovable grandpa in addition to his experiencing overexposure overshadowed his significant contributions to some of the best Golden Age Hollywood films.
But that's not the only reason why Brennan has faded into obscurity. After you've garnered the reputation of being an outspoken racist that's vehemently opposed to things like civil rights and for believing that everyone who doesn't see eye to eye with you must be a God and country hating communist, it's kind of hard to turn back.
Especially in his later years, Brennan's vocal, vitriolic views didn't exactly earn him many new fans. In fact, some people think that Walter Brennan just might be the most dangerous actor who ever lived. You see, guns and knives might be able to inflict a degree of damage, but lies, manipulation, and shameless hate can end up causing widespread carnage.
Join Facts verse as we reveal why Walter Brennan was quite possibly one of the most evil men to ever find success in Hollywood. Before we delve into his many misdeeds, we'll first take a few minutes to reflect on his early years and rise to fame.

I loved Walter Brennan as an actor. I always watched the Real McCoys. Saying he was nothing like the characters he played can be said about most actors I think. He was flawed, yes, but to say he was the most evil man in Hollywood is just hyperbole.

And I'm sure Walt Disney and John Wayne in their prime had a lot of bad things to say about people off screen as well. This is why I think channels like Facts Verse hold little to no credibility because they just project a lot of things without any real evidence. Hollywood was and still is a master of illusion. It's all fake. We love when the actors make a good performance. What we see on camera is not necessarily the person off camera. Those guys back then had different ideas for everything that was wrong with the country, just like people do today. So he isn't really any different from the men of today who are thinking about the shootings of black men, and to me, it's very wrong. Others are racist just like he was, and there are still as many people who are, that were back then because it's passed down from their parents. Sometimes, it gets broken, and the children turn away from hatred, but many people have never changed. I thought Martin Luther King was a wonderful man and meant a lot to society. The speeches given during public appearances are matters of history. The firsthand reports of co-workers are hearsay, but also widely collaborated. As the video shows, he used his image to help spread and perpetuate fear (and thus, hatred) of anyone with different views. The 'don't look, don't tell' view of human accountability is one common way that "other-hating" views are allowed to flourish and poison the minds of otherwise reasonable people. It is the ultimately the view of a moral coward. As far as him being 'the most evil' person in Hollywood, that is highly suspect as there were plenty of fearful morons fueled by the fear of 'this or that' evil making a living this way.

What a fuucked up world we'd be forced to live in if we all had the same beliefs. Without knowing the man personally, I assumed he had reasons for his strong beliefs. Good or bad he had the balls to stand up for them. I believe its more evil to label a man that doesn't have the ability to defend himself. But of course this is just one man's opinion.

My opinion of Brennan just went up a notch! I've always appreciated his acting abilities but now respect him for his patriotism. His concerns about social agitation by those intent on destroying civil order were well founded. I'm glad he is not here today to see the chaos this country is in. RIP Walter Brennan.
@freeedward8
@freeedward8 Год назад
A "patriot" can be a racist?? ARE YOU PROUD of being a racist, too? It's people like you who think they are superior (I'm sure you are white) and "Oh, me? I'm not a racist!" LOL-- bet you think you're religious, too. You follow God's decree to "love one another- do not judge- let he who is without sin cast the first stone...etc." Blaming other races is against God's love of all mankind he has created. Patriotism? America was founded on welcoming ALL who are oppressed, all who were persecuted in their birth land- America welcomes and gives freedom to all the world's people. (Native Americans are the only original Americans-all the rest of us came from somewhere else on Earth). As for loving Brennan's TALENT, great! But remember, people are not just one sided--you can love him and his talent and his acting and at the same time not be aware of his other sides, like his well documented racism and beliefs.The FACT is Brennan was NOT ashamed of his racist beliefs as he was PROUDLY RANTING THEM PUBLICLY to anyone who would listen-you can look up his speeches, interviews, etc. on Google. Keep an open mind that don't know everything about this man.
@66605
@66605 Год назад
@@freeedward8 I don't believe everything I'm told about others. The term racist has lost all its meaning today. The left uses this as a smear tactic against those they disagree with. @freeedward8
@freeedward8 Год назад
@@66605 Sorry- "racist" has NOT lost it's meaning- the meaning is still the same---simple: "the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another." When the "left" points out, in fact, that someone, or some group is "racist" you can challenge their statement by offering an alternate FACT. You "smear tactic" is a lame excuse to try and justify racism as being acceptable. I think "evil" is too strong a word for the talented Mr. Brennan, but he did not try to hide his beliefs and was PUBLIC and PROUD of them. We are all complex that's a given.

Sometimes people don't know how unfair, and dishonest they are until they become fair. Watch the movie "Giant". Racism, and classism is the undercurrent in the movie. James Dean becomes the classist evil he grew up despising. Rock Hudson who thought himself a fair man, and wanted to be a hero but was never the hero he wanted to be until he defended not his property, or his own name, or his own son, but when he got his ass kicked defending an anonymous Mexican family against a racist roadside diner chef. The hero in the movie is unsung by the main characters. Sal Mineo playing a Mexican who's entire race is despised by every white in Texas gives his life defending their culture, and way of life. The adopted son of the Hudson character is given a brass band welcome coming home from the war juxtaposed by the return of the casket of the Sal Mineo character with only his family in attendance. His mother is given the American flag. Hudson realizing how thin the gesture slips a Texas flag to his father. Sal Mineo's character didn't give his life to defend the racist culture of Texas or America. He gave it defending the potential that America could become a fair country. The Rock Hudson character claims he "is a fair man, and no man can say any different" even though he was unwittingly unfair, and racist. That's a claim, even though wrong, no racist trumpian has ever made. They know they are unfair, racist, liars. They are, unlike the nazis who didn't know nazism would lead to a holocaust, are neonazi losers who want a holocaust.

Your sentiment can be applied when the views and practices of past societies are held by the majority of the people. This was not the case with Brennan. IMO, that he was actually gleeful and celebratory over the deaths of people because their values didn’t align with his, people who were held in high esteem by so many, puts him in the category of a very hateful human being, not a product of his time. Brennan had a very dark heart indeed.
