Off the Record with Paul Heyman (Part 3)

Final part of Michael Landsberg's sit-down interview with Paul Heyman.
In this part Paul discusses his feelings on Eric Bischoff and what it's like working with him, his thoughts on Chris Jericho and his Undisputed Title run, why Rob Van Dam hasn't been given more of a push, guys who are ready to explode on the wrestling scene and much more. He also engages in a spot of word association.
As if that wasn't all, Landsberg has a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT for everyone. I'm sure you're all dying to found out about that. OK maybe not.
Still, it's a pretty interesting interview. Hope you enjoy it as well as the previous parts.

gotta give props to landsberg here. he interjects alot but that seems to be his style and he treats every guest the same. not to mention he's very knowledgeable. never down-talks wrestling and seems to follow the product (and if he doesn't, he does a good job acting like he does). never afraid of asking the tough questions either. makes for a very good interview

I agree. Landsberg's show isn't very long, so he gets as much content as possible. Also, he's not afraid to piss off the guest with a hard question. I think part of it comes from his ego, but you have to have an ego if you want to be on television in my opinion.

I bet Vince loves having Heyman and Bischoff working for him. I'd merge Smackdown and Raw personally but having Bischoff run one brand and Heyman run the other and compete would be fun.

I think he's pretty good and really, give him credit for getting all this great talent into a studio to tell great stories and share insight. He interrupts....thats annoying, but he has a time limit, just like on any show. I think he does very well and the wrestlers and execs like him or they would take a pass on the interview. Just be grateful and put up with it. You have to admit, he has great interviews.

Lansberg was a great host and has had that spot on TSN for years, he went from a brodcaster of sports night and they tried him out for the pilot and he maid the show last so damn long IMO, If they wouldn't have picked him. there wouldn't be so many great OTRs, atleast that's my opinion, considering who was working for them at the time. he being a fan of wrestling we've been seen many guests before they do american TV. He was the first outside of the WWE to interview vince about MTL.

NEVER interrupt your guest. Paul Heyman is an interesting guy with interesting input and was probably the most honest WWE guest they ever had. To interrupt him with unbending dirtsheet opinions and sheer smart-markery was a waste of a great conversation.

TNA has brought in Hogan, Bischoff, Russo and Ferrara. They're pulling out all the stops to compete with WWE. They won't hesitate to bring someone like Paul Heyman in if they feel it helps their position to compete with McMahon.

Their X-Division and Tag division is limitless. All the stuff from Triple X, MCM can still be topped. It just takes some better execution and creative development so they don't get left behind like the 'apparent' time they invested to make stuff for the Main Event Mafia.

I see from the comments that many people here that are bshing the interviewer know little about televsion. The role of the host is to keep the show going. He has a limited amount of time, but needs to get many questions in as possible. He has to keep the guest on his toes, and can't let the guest fillibuster and go off topic. He's not being rude, he's just trying to keep the show at a fast pace, other wise people will tune out. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch...
@HimanshuDoi

@Kreimehn Lawler doesn't hate ECW. He said that to get heel heat, and he did. If Lawler DID hate ECW, he wouldn't even have gone to that place to work out a storyline with them.

If heyman wanted to, he could set up his own wrestling fed again, hire someone to sort out financies etc, all that stuff.....guaranteed that that his new company would become huge. Start off small but with his genius ideas and listening to the fans.....it would be huge.

He had his own show good but it went under cause he couldn't manage the money. Now if he would move himself to TNA and write there that would be a great show! You can see in this interview that he clearly came up with the idea for The Rock being a heel and he knew who was being under used and who was gonna be big.

@andre30032002 I think the attitude era happened because Vince Russo as the guy in charge of all the Kayfabe, thought that was the Best way to compete with WCW in the ratings. They experimented with characters such as Stone Cold, Nation of Domination, D.O.A., D.X. and The Corporation and saw immediate results. The whole Rebelious Gang Mentality aka the "Attitude Era" saved the former "WWF" from going bankrupt. As for ECW, they were a tiny spec in the business and the Least of McMahon's concerns.

ur right there is no chance spike tv will employ heyman, but when it comes to talant getting a chance in ecw, what about raven, the dudleys, rey mystero, chris jericho, eddie guerrero, steve austin, lita, rvd, shane douglas, and that is just a few. i do admit at the end of ecw he pushed a few people that wouldnt have been there. but that when his top talant were in wcw or wwf.
