Texas LEOs Josh and Bill go hard in Southland.
Southland is an American crime drama television series[1] created by writer Ann Biderman and produced by Warner Bros. Television. Southland takes a "raw and authentic look" at Los Angeles and the lives of the LAPD officers who police it. The show's first season centers on the experiences and interactions of LAPD patrol officers and detectives, and is more a character-driven drama than a police procedural.
Among the characters are rookie Officer Ben Sherman and his training officer, John Cooper. Detective Lydia Adams, who must balance work with the responsibility of living with her mother; Officer Chickie Brown, who aspires to be the first woman on the LAPD's elite SWAT team; and Detective Sammy Bryant, whose home life interferes with his working life.
After its first season on NBC, Southland moved to TNT network. The second season placed less emphasis on the ensemble cast, instead focusing more on the Adams, Sherman, Cooper and Bryant characters and their partners. The weekly stories also centered more on how crimes came together, with fewer serialized story lines.

When the female suspect decided to hit Ofcr. Sherman and then spit in his face, he would have had full autonomy in order to strike the female in the manner he did, all that would have happened would have been that Ofcr. Sherman would have had to fill out a detailed report which would have been labeled as a CUOF ( Categorical Use Of Force) then probably got some days off so the investigation could be completed but in the grand scheme of things, you have her on 241 PC- Assault On a Peace Officer which in the state of California is punishable as a misdemeanor and up to 1 year in jail now had he been injured in the incident, she would have faced a more serious charge of Battery of a Peace Officer which is charged as a wobbler in California. 243(c) PC or one that would have required the element of serious injury to the officer 243(d) PC. She also would have been charged with 148(a)(1) PC- Resisting, Delaying, and Obstructing an Officer when she interfered with the officer's duty to take suspect #1 in custody and keep in mind, that's in addition to the possible charge of criminal trespass which is 602 PC

Because you did not have to wear bodycams? Regulations and requirements are so lax around police and you have the strongest union in history, constantly getting you out of what should be a murder rap with a paid vacation. Or did you mean you could still slap and threaten suspects? It is insane how you get the slightest amount of pushback and way too much funding, barely ever stop or atleaat solve crimes and then have the gall to complain about pushback from the population against police violence. Not even starting on the Reid method that put 100000s of innocent people in jail over the years and cops still use it. You don't even realise how ridicoulus you sound.

3:30 so interesting to hear that's what a real officer might do. I took a police exam and it had a question like "how would you handle paraphernalia like a pipe, joint, etc." and I said I'd dispose of it by breaking it or otherwise discarding it, but I would not turn it into evidence. As it turns out that was the wrong answer. The answer they wanted is you take it into evidence and file a report.
@OnlyCops
@OnlyCops 28 дней назад
If you are choosing to charge them for a paraphernalia, then you would need to take it in for evidence. But if you were going to destroy it and let it go, then technically you have the discretion in some departments to do that.

Oh i didnt know this was including the kid episode. I got so mad at this episode, my dad would break a belt on my rear, for all of these things. I had teachers write a letter home one time for not sitting down in class after my dad spanked me. Still no bruising or visible but my butt sure hurt the next day. It was because my older sister stole, and her and my younger brother conspired against me and i was punished for lying and stealing the candy as it was me that did get the candy down. But my siblings ate it all. Shout out from Texas.

I was never hit, but... I wished my parents or ESPECIALLY Children's house adult would have hit me. It would have been less cruel or if it was too much, there would have been proof. The mental abuse what they gave instead later gave me diagnosis from a team of mental health workers: "Because of mental abuse in childhood, your physical brain didn't develop right." That was the best they could figure out. I do have ADHD also, but I don't fully fit to it either. And there is no medical code for that or real way to medically really prove it, so the kinda couldn't chart it in my medical history - never mind anybody knowing how to help me, I still remember how silently lost the head psychiatrist was. To this day when I'm asking for a help, I get thrown around as a hot potato between medical departments, because all know something is wrong with me - but there isn't place for me in healthcare. So... Take the fcking belt kid. When guardians start to avoid punishment that can be proven, you become the worse option: me. Is it okay to be not funny under older videos? xD My real humor is already similar or worse level than medical examiners, so in away this rant is funnier to most people. And I didn't need to see any bodies to get that level of funny.

My mom spanked me but it hurt her emotionally so we ended up in corners alot insteaed. My dad spanked me with a belt and I'd scream before he'd even touch me, which made my grandfather threaten to call the cops and check my legs and back to make sure I wasn't being actually abused. By the time I was a teen, it was all lectures all the time. Dad actually figured out the worst punishment for us: he'd make us stand at the end of his bed, silent, while he read a book. We couldn't talk, move, go to the bathroom, nothing, for what felt like hours (usually half an hour tops) and then he'd finally put the book down and start his lecture, after which would come the "punishment" (extra chores, repairs, apologizing, whatever fit the situation) but the real punishment was the standing in silence. We're all talkers and that was torture. I think a lot of people consider spanking with a belt to be abuse but I would never treat my parents with the level of disrespect I see in kids nowadays. That said, my folks also didn't really spank us much or for long. My sister has 10 kids and rarely has spanked any of the them and their amazingly well behaved kids. I think parental modeling behavior does more for child rearing than spanking ever did. But there's definitely a difference between spankings and abuse.
@OnlyCops
@OnlyCops 9 месяцев назад
I couldn't have said it better myself. Modeling behavior is by far the most important aspect parents miss and meeting the needs of the child keep moat children on the straight and arrow.

you have responsibility's over and to your child as such knowing when to use your words to get your point across vs useing physical discipline. as someone who grew up with parents who did both i understand vary much that there are times when you need to send a clear messaged saying to not do this or to not act like that as it is either unbecoming or can lead to problems later on in life. and i'm only 25 so kids who might be younger may see it differently but i can tell you right now if my parents had not disciplined me the way they did i whould be in jail or dead because i whould not have learned everything's i should have growing up without it. i personally think that depriving a parents right to tell a kid what is right and wrong in a physical manner is wrong because it leads to the mindset that oh this is bad but i can get away with it because all i get is a talking too and my things taken away and that later in life will either land them in prison, in jail or worse dead because if you say the wrong thing to the wrong person your going to end up with a lot more then hurt feelings.

One time i got mad over not being allowed to play video games because in my kid mind i was idek😂 but i punched the counter so he put me in a headlock and swung me around punched me repeatedly in the back of the head and the middle of my back. Another time he punched me in the leg because i was crying that he made mom get rid of my dog so he punched me in the leg so hard it swelled up to softball size. Any of those child abuse? I called cops and CPS numerous times when it was happening but never did anything so just curious. Also it happened till i learned how to fight
@OnlyCops
@OnlyCops 22 дня назад
Most of what you described is 100% child abuse. Even in states like Texas where you can spank your kids, there has to be a "dictionary cause" and "reasonable amount of force" used. Anything leaving a mark or causing more than just pain can lead to charges. This happened infamously to NFL runningback Adrian Peterson a couple of years ago

I remember the first time I ran away from home, when i finally went to school cause i was hungry several officers were there, and I do remember that they were talking rought to me almost trying to scare me, but all i could focus on was my caretaker in the other room, I now notice when i replay it i my head that they wanted to see my reaction to them. thier the principal's office and the outer office that is the assit principals office she was in that office crying her eyes out while the cops talked to her. they put us facing each other and even though they were screaming at me they had to kinda hit the table for me to look away from her and look at them it almost as if they werent their the cops were background objects the only thing that mattered was the person in front of me and all i could think was why is she crying im going to have to go home with her. I wish I told them it was 4 yrs of pain and abuse and lonliness before i finally fought back. When i did that, she kicked me out of the house by taking me to a family members house a left me there, cant abuse someone who fights back. The cops were not trying to scare me they wanted to see who i was more scared of large scary at the moment men (was not scared) that were talking rough or the small helpess lady that was crying her eyes out in the other room. I wish i told them cause now i see what they were doing i really wish i told them, that why it piss me off how kids today use the word abuse so freely like its nothing. Sorry for the grammer TX raised.

I actually had a question about blocking sidewalks. Locally, we have a lot of homeless people in tents (they were handed out during the pandemic) and I've seen a number of these tents just set up in the middle of a sidewalk, completely blocking the walkway. That has to be illegal, right?
@OnlyCops
@OnlyCops 9 месяцев назад
In most states "blocking an easement" is prohibited but is typically prohibited at the local court level (a misdemeanor) and enforcement is strictly up to the jurisdiction/judge/DA's office. We had the same issue with panhandling in my city. It was illegal but we were not allowed to enforce it because the city managers office did not want us to for "optics". It was a blast

I am not sure I would be happy if I was a police officer, doing my job and I was being recorded by a bunch of incompetent people. Watching those individuals filming Sherman punching the lady who spat in his face is in my mind a felony, because when you're an officer of the law, you're making every effort to uphold it and you're being disrespected for it by people who are either risking your confidentiality/livelihood or who only want to gain popularity from it. Personally, I think it should be made illegal to record an officer's role, unless they do something against their conduct. Sherman did no such thing. He did what I would have done; what anybody else should do.

To the first question. Body cams on officers presupposes no officer discretion desired. Whatever’s on the books is what the officer should deliver. The woman they’re protecting probably thinks body cams are a good idea.
@OnlyCops
@OnlyCops 10 месяцев назад
We are huge supporters of bodycams, I would much rather have them than not in any LEO interaction. The issue is with the law, shall arrest laws or jurisdiction policies on application of the laws are what hurt officer discretion in the few (less than 1%) of calls where I find it more harmful to not have it. Having to arrest a kid for a 1/10 ounce of weed instead of giving him a citation/warning is crushing to public trust and officer public relations. There is however always the space for abuse of the discretion so I understand the other side of the argument.

I got called to be a cop for like a few years recently here in Texas. Fortunately I was good at my job and never wrongfully arrested someone without probable cause . A degree of reasonableness is allowed within the charge of "injury to a child" (look it up in Texas penal code, you can Google the elements of the offense) of which your peers/a Judge will get to decide whether or not the act of hitting your child was within a reasonable degree or force to be considered discipline. The same legal threshold for "causes pain" or "serious bodily injury" apply in those types of charges and as they would in instances of domestic violence or assault (again this is perfectly Googleable).

Yes the legal process is important. If I wanted vigilante justice then I definitely wouldn't pay taxes to the police. Get it documented, develop a case against the pervert, keep the woman informed (what if he's a stalker), create a case history with this criminal. All I saw was a vigilante with a badge that made himself feel better as he destroyed evidence. You cops are all the same. You can talk about being Civil Servants and wanting to do good by the community and being held by a higher standard but you really just want to do the job without even your boss bothering you about it and we lowly civilians just need to obey our Cop Masters because you know best........ and we better pay you. Cops get paid better than starting engineers. Most of you can't write a police report correctly the first time. Ridiculous.

@JJ_LL
@JJ_LL 4 месяца назад
@@OnlyCops Yeah, I didn't watch the whole episode. I like the actor. He was on Band of Brothers, I think the North Hollywood Shootout tv movie, and he was on Boom Town. But I did watch the scene and the commentary of that scene afterward. But the point is Cop Feelings/Thoughts/Ideas can't be the only determining factor for what a good idea/procedure is. A police officer can die, get fired, be deployed elsewhere and with no record of interaction then ..... who defends that lady and escalates things with a criminal that doesn't stop? But yeah, once something irritates me then it's gonna be a while before I finish it or rewatch it. I wouldn't call it cherry picking because I'm not holding onto what's favorable to me and throwing out what doesn't profit me. I watched that clip and y'alls reaction to that clip. Just some stuff causes me to (inside) yell "WHAT?" Anyways. Have a good day.
