as a canadian when i heard yvonne took french for 6 years and could only remember "how are you" and "can i go to the bathroom" i knew immediately she wasn't lying. every single person i know took french from kindergarden to grade 9 and i could count on one hand the amount of people that can actually speak french fluently still that i hang out with. everyone can sorta kinda understand it but nobody actually learns to speak it

It's called scalar implicature in linguistics, you're welcome for now knowing a new fancy term. (Basically means that even though it would be logically correct to say "there are 7 songs" when there are 10 songs, what people think is implied by that is "there are no more than 7 songs", so usually, you only break that principle of communication when you purposefully try to deceive or mislead others)

Honestly thought scarra was lying about the Olympics because that opening ceremony was for the 2008 games and he was talking like 2014 or 2016 which were Sochi and Rio, but it is super cool that his grandfather was involved in that! That opening and the Birds Nest stadium are iconic Olympic moments! Rolling into that stadium as an athlete in 2022 after watching the 2008 games as a kid was an astounding experience and one I will never forget.

Feedback for the scoring: since most people wrote a number on their boards and the liars revealed their lie as a sentence, it was really hard to follow which person received points each round. Next time can you add a “+1” or a similar delta visual over the person who got it correct (and not just total score), or list which options were 1, 2, and 3 in text along the bottom. Thanks!

Yep same here. Took French from grade 1 to grade 9 and that’s all I can say too lmao. Then went to Sweden for a year and became fluent in 11 months. French class great 😂
