I really need your help regarding correctible errors. Im jam from the Philippines. We have a basketball tournament here and during our championship game in the fourth quarter with score tied at 66-66 with 1:54 remaining on the clock, a foul was called by my teammate which is a good call. We were on the defensive side, now there was an error regarding the foul, because instead of 4 fouls committed by my teammate, the table had an error in tallying the foul and said he had five fouls. Everyone knows that it was his 4th foul but the table had an error in tallying. We reviewed the video and we were right, its his fourth foul not the fifth foul. Both teams argued and we ended up cancelling our championship game. What should the correct decision be. Can we correct table error mistake in tallying fouls. Please i really want your help regarding this issue. Thank you, will be waiting for your reply and hopefully a video regarding this correctible error. Thank you
I think the officials were mentally gone in the MHSAA girls game at the end...why did the L when he administered the free throws go to the opposite side of the table to the "C" side??
Question about fan and ref interactions? Just wanting some expert advise for what fans can and cant get away with based on the rules of the game, it seems some refs are fine with fans calling from the stands and others get really mad and wont let anyone say a word. Thanks
NFHS Rule 2 (Officials and Their Duties) Section 8 (Official’s Additional Duties) Article 1 addresses these situations. It should be noted that officials should next to never address or respond to fans. Any attempts by spectators to get an official to engage them directly in conversation should be ignored. Official’s duties extend to the 5 players per team, 2 head coaches, and all bench personnel. Not the fans. It is the responsibility of the school or game site’s administrator/host management/game committee/school representative to control spectators. There are times where there may seemingly be no school representative or staff members anywhere to be found. In this instance, the home team’s Head Coach serves as the host management. If a spectator’s actions rise to a degree where it is so disruptive that it interferes with the proper conduct or progress of the game, the official should stop the game, send both team’s players to their respective bench area, and request home management to resolve the issue to a point where the game may proceed in an orderly manner. Again, this may fall upon the Head Coach to do if no school staff is present. This is a great topic to address with the Coach during pregame. Finally, the officials may even rule fouls on either team if their supporters act in such a way as to interfere with the proper conduct of the game. However, discretion should be used so that a team is not unjustly penalized.
Play 1: Is this the player's normal shooting motion? If so, we need to consider it. My instincts say NO as his teammates move in for the rebound. I call VIOLATION.
My comment was about calling a violation on the shooter ... but It appears the shooter was spinning the ball upward, therefore the call for AP is appropriate for the players moving into the lane.
Beggars can't be choosers and I truly appreciate what you do. I have to ask is there any way you could be more clear immediately after the video on what the correct call is? I just feel that these videos drag on when they do not need to. I love your effort and, as a young official, I truly appreciate it. Thanks, Treg.
