How do I prepare for an offshore passage? It's a big question - It's not easy crossing a large ocean or to take your first multiday offshore passage - but we recently had our first, and these are our 5 best preparations for sailing offshore. We had many projects before setting sail, but these were our top 5 - the offshore preparations that helped us the most. Each sailboat and crew will be completely different, so I'd love to hear what your top 5 offshore sailing preparations would be! Leave your thoughts in the comments.
Cheers,
Matt

Who Are We?
We're the Fosters, and we just sold our house and purchased a sailboat, Cadence, a Catalina 387. We're on a journey to minimize our life, learn to live on a sailboat, and sail away.
In 2019, Matt quit his public education career of 15 years, and went full-time building his own business. Olivia is ready to explore the world, and so am I...but first, we have to save up, learn about sailing, and figure out a way to leave land.
We're sharing this journey with you in hopes that it'll bring you a smile, provide something helpful, and maybe give a bit of inspiration to live life on your terms - to explore your world.
Join us as we take this journey into the unknown, and share some laughs along the way.

Really enjoyed the video! The sunset at the end was beautiful! And cool shot of the buildings along the shore with that gorgeous sky in the background.

Congrats on making it to you still on track to get to Maine?

It comes and goes. Right now the two hurricanes that came through delayed us a week, and some bridge closures are creating other delays. I don't think we'll know until we get there (or not). A good 5 day offshore could catch up all the time we've lost. *Fingers crossed.

Great video and advice. We are considering new sails from Precision Sails and was wondering if you are still happy with them. If so do you know what package or sail cloth you decided to go with?
@TheFosterJourney
@TheFosterJourney Год назад
Yes, we definietly enjoy the sails from Precision. We did a conversation with them about the Genoa vs. Working Jib (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2SOdx7kRazg.html ). All three of our sails have the ocean package for better longevity.

Great idea for an episode! How many years do you expect to get out of your main before jamming starts again? Cheers

We use it a lot, so I'll be happy with 3-4, but will feel like 5+ years would be more than my money's worth. That said, we continue to put into some strong winds....*fingers crossed

What are those fasteners you are using to hold on the solar panels to the canvas ?
@TheFosterJourney
@TheFosterJourney 3 года назад
Those are Loxx fasteners.

@@TheFosterJourney thanks so much ! Been looking for something low profile that I can take my solar panels on and off since I only use them while sailing and I cover the cabin top with a sunbrella to protect my teak when I’m not on my Catalina 22
