Hi! We're a family of 3, working and cruising full-time. We sold our suburban life in 2020, sailed the US East Coast from Texas, and just wrapped up in the Bahamas. Now we're off to distant seas, learning as we go, and having a blast!
In these weekly videos, you're invited to come along with us.
We want to go all over the world and are working hard to carefully craft a long-term lifestyle. You're invited to watch as we share the journey from suburbia to sailing freely.
I have a 17 ft sailboat. I sailed the elk, sassafras, and kept it at safe harbor bohemia vista last year. It was fantastic sailing that area of the bay. This year I can't sail due to an injury to my neck but by next year I hope to be out there again. Enjoy your cruising
I'm looking forward to seeing what you decided to do. I would have done the east coast plan, then when hurricane season was over go to Caribbean and the next hurrican season i would dpend in central America. What will you do???
...and never hit the mouth of the Delaware River off Cape May with opposing wind/currents. They don't call that area the Onion Patch without a reason. I've never taken such a pounding in all my years sailing...
I found your channel just recently and have been binging it from the beginning. The fastest point of sail for most yacht is beam reach, I enjoy it for speed and comfort.
Did you guys get a new dingy motor? We just replace our motor with a Suzuki 20. We wanted a white motor we’re told that was not available in white! Have fun up north. We will look for you at the boat show.😊
It’s quite possible for an oversized anchor to be less effective. Anchor maker recommendations are optimal. Good heavy chain is where its at. that, and a drag alarm. good luck, hope no damage
I’m wandering how did you make a deal with boatus ! Cause I had same situation and they made me sign salvage towing contract and made me to pay them 9000$ for that towing job
@@TheFosterJourney boatus semt this towboatus third party company and ı was super worried for my wife and my dog and for sure my boat instead waiting for the high tide that boat captain affected me with my amateur knowledge and I signed ! I have gold membership. I called headquarters of boatus they said “ you and them we don’t care “ I still have it but I hate them !! Like health insurance or hospitals !!
The seasons dictate where we go (comfort and safety). The season for the Bahamas is November through May. The season for going north is June-September.
@@LynnDominique when it shows a little growth. When the paint is fresh, and we're moving every few days, it stays clean on its own. We've learned when we anchor in a place for a month to go for pleasure sail every few days.
We are following behind you in your path all the way from Pensacola around FL, now up to Beaufort, NC continuing north to haul out because it *is* hot down the coast this far. So your series is really interesting and topical. Planning Bahamas in Dec.
I wish we had a boat yard around my marina that would allow people to do their own work. Save money and have the piece of mind that it is done right. Looks good!
As an older sailor (65+) let me tell you an old hand trick. On the ICW or any unfamiliar or seldom charted waterway, always steer left or right of Rhumb, that way when it starts getting shallow just turn the helm in the opposite direction close to the same amount of degrees. Now not huge turns just small increments and you'll know which way to go. Hope this helps.
Very interesting. We just tried switching from 130% genoa to the Yankee that our cutter came with when we bought it, and can confirm everything said here. We have a flexibly riggable solent stay in addition to the cutter stay, and I think we will get a hank on yankee so that we can leave the furler genoa hoisted and use the yankee if we want to. Its gonna be a hankee.
A cheaper and better solution would have been just get another 75/15 controller and split port/starboard panels to separate controllers. Then if you get any shading one one side you will have better output.
