What DRAMA! Water never Disappears it just moves around ! Welcome back.

How much more water could have been captured if the reservoir had been dredged over the years to maintain original capacity?

Worth noting that Twitchell is intended primarily as a groundwater recharge basin and not a storage reservoir, so comparing to Cachuma etc would make no sense- Twitchell is designed to percolate water into the soil as quickly as possible.

Thanks for that information. My question is will they allow it to fill up to full capacity? According to them its up to 57% capacity, so why in the hell are they releasing water from it? Fill it up! Save some room for future run off but if its not 90%+ full at the end of this run off season they are playing stupid games.

@@sw8741 because this water release is meant to recharge the ground water basin. They literally said it in the story. This water is always released even in drier years we still release water as the river runs through many many Ag farms downstream. Not every reservoir is the same some are meant for different purposes. I wouldn't want 90% capacity behind twitchell dam just 5 miles upstream from a population area of 200k people. Destroying hundreds of billions, when they can just release water.

it's dry already today... goes so fast

Great to hear this reservoir is also intended for ground water recharge. We need lots more of these for years like 2023!

Why release so much now? Does doubling the flow now help recharge groundwater as much as other options? If you're under 60% capacity it would seem holding most of it & using it to flood percolation fields all summer would help much more than higher flow now.

They're releasing now because of the expected snow melt in a month will fill it up again.

It's a good thing Twitchell dam is still holding otherwise all the people that built their homes all the way to the levee would be under water...hope it holds.

Hilarious the people who don't understand the purpose of Twitchell and the fact no in that area would want Twitchell anywhere near 90% capacity. The reservoir is 5 miles away from 200k people and billions of dollars in agriculture farms. Slow release is what saves this area from catastrophe.

They're not locals, Robbie, or they're incredibly ignorant.

Stop releasing the water into the ocean . Let it stay in the reservoir!!!
@robbie5138
@robbie5138 Год назад
Why that's not the purpose of this reservoir. Water is supposed to be released from this reservoir, and yes even in years when water levels never reach this height. This water release system recharges Wells and aquifers down stream in Agriculture communities.

Then pretend you weren’t warned when the snow melts and you kill hundreds. Science is lame anyway 😂

Wait a minute, where is hunting legal in the area? I'm in Arroyo Grande myself, but I haven't heard of any hunting happening within 50 miles of here.
