OG Anunoby. 2019 NBA Champion. Future All-Defense MAINSTAY.
Anunoby’s ability defensively is dazzlingly dynamic. He may well end up a cross between peak Shawn Marion’s switch ability and Ben Wallace’s power and physical post defense despite his height. However (comma) he is still learning and growing offensively. He’s very much got the skill of a stretch 5. He can space the floor, is rock solid at catch and shoots, and he straight muscles THROUGH defenders when given the opportunity (hello Willie Cauley-Stein at 6:28). He’s gotten great at attacking space with well-timed cuts and is utilized as a screener some. OG doesn’t exactly style and profile his way to the bucket: it’s bumpy and clunky but he will bruise and abuse bodies on the way there.
Why make a video about a guy averaging (as of March 1st 2021) 13.8 points on 47.9/39.5/75.5 shooting? It’s because he’s got every tool at his disposal to make a huge leap. Not necessarily the one Pascal Siakam made from NBA D-Leaguer in 2017 to THE Most Improved Player in the NBA in 2019 but being in Toronto, the temptation is there to make that comparison. Per Cleaning the Glass, his usage is the highest it’s ever been in his career and the Raptors would be wise to feed him a couple more reps.

I'll say this in the defense video that I came out with at the beginning of this season [ • OG Anunoby - Lockdown ]: I think OG is a star waiting to explode onto the scene and is a future perennial All-Star and DPOY candidate.
