I was very lucky that my dad took me to get my copy that week. I was the only kid in my neighborhood that had it for like a month.

My friend bought the game on a random whim during a non-descript trip to the mall. To this day I think we both agree it was the best game purchase discovery any of us ever made.

I remember reading about GG in GamePro back in the day. Always loved looking at the art of the characters. Was one of my first experiences seeing an anime art style.

My first contact with the series was in the Arcades but I guess that would be with Guilty Gear X, not this one.

funny thing is, the people who listen to the band Testament (the band that inspired this character's name) usually divide the albums by 'new testament' (heavy thrash with death metal influences) and 'old testament' (more on classic metal/classic thrash)

Not really, everyone in this game has an infinite due to a lack of any hit stun reduction and OTG limit. That basically means infinites with a *sweep*.

Funnily enough roman cancels weren't really a thing in gg1,only sol out of all characters could do roman cancels,it worked similar to Kara in ggstrive but the difference was that sol could only do Kara cancels outta supers which made it loose tension to do cancels which is how roman cancel became a thing in later games,it's actually funny

Technically they split Aria into two pieces and made clones (Ramlethal and Elphelt) out of the one piece (Justice) while the other was hidden (Jack O) But by the End of it Justice and Jack O are fused again and Aria returns to find she has two clone sisters, a daughter, a son in law and a grandson - all in a day's work for Guilty Gear I guess.

Me and my friends outright barely touch this game for that very reason. For an idea, we play shit like Hokuto No Ken.

But man, just a crazy throwback to when Instant Kill meant KILL, like... damn, shit had some real weight to it(lame as it was when you think about it).

Yooo, Sol in Smash would be, as far as I can think, the perfect mix of a sword user and fist to fist melee fighter. He’s got moves with crazy movement (the one where he jumps back then leaps of the screen in a kick, mainly), simple projectiles, strong and hype attacks (like his punch that sends the enemy rolling), some cool grabs, and a grounded feel among other points. Honestly, seems like a hype and solid pick. Also, some of his moves make me think of Terry with a sword, which sounds like something you’d threaten to fight your friends with.

Very unlikely but I would love to see him

Remaster? well, theres a switch and steam version, but rebalancing this game is like taking away the magic that make this one a true gem, so, no, let this one be just like it is!

@@Shimazaki00 I mean I want the mechanics game play to stay the same, but with updated graphics and new special playable versions of the bosses that work for Vs mode. So you can still fight crazy single-player boss Justice, but there is also a new Justice you can play as that isn't overpowered. And online play, of course, it's a shame they couldn't do that with the re-releases (at least, it's not in the PS4 version i found) ;

I strongly disagree. There's a toxic amount of chuuni stuff and edgy, pointless characters, with an almighty omnipotent godly ultimate antagonist. Guilty Gear has good music (before xrd at least) and excellent gameplay (before strive at least), but i'd rather pretend it has not story. I bought Overture to try other games by Daisuke, and even though the controllers were pretty rough, i would've finished the game if it was not for the terrible story.

God tier story, man. So awesome and epic!

@@NinthSettler GG may have typical Anime craziness, but that doesn't make it bad. It's still a good story (minus the plot holes and other things). Besides, although not like it's cousin BlazBlue, the world of GG has always had an edgy, 90s metal aesthetic (primarily pre-Xrd). This is especially true with the music (pre-Xrd mostly). In terms of basic composition and production, Daisuke's stuff has gotten much, much better overall compared to before (notably with Strive so far). Btw, I _love_ low-fi Black Metal. Altho there were some _sick_ tracks for sure, it had a relatively amateurish sound pre-Xrd, like he was still figuring things out with his style. Xrd has some strange tracks too though imo. Simplified doesn't mean bad either, especially because it's still pretty nutty when you consider this. As for the Story, Japanese people _love_ edgy, stupidly over-the-top stories that start off tame, but eventually end with the character(s) killing "god". This tends to be a thing Westerners (especially us Americans) don't like too much, even though much of our media is similar (Twilight, 90s comics, WoW, even Avengers w/Thanos).

It has its issues here and there, but the strong ties to musical history and concepts (which unfortuantely became less clever and generally present over time) are really fun. Makes me wonder if Ishiwatari was sitting at his desk humming Metallica songs to himself, then suddenly goes: "JUSTIIIICE!!!", and makes the Album name an entire character!

Well if you "kill" your opponent, they shouldn't be able to get up and fight another round. DESTROYED actually had meaning here! Lol

@@KuroNoTenno Game was called Capcom vs Sammy because Sammy was the company that owned Guilty Gear and maybe Arc System Works? Not entirely sure. The main draw was having Vampire Savor characters in a similar visual style to Guilty Gear. This was announced sometime in 2003 but according to Seth Killian the whole time he worked at Capcom there was never any discussion about the project so he assumes it never got anywhere in development and was canned almost immediately
