About the ballet training question. I do remember them talking about how their company had them go to a bunch of different styles of dance classes and they mentioned that they did some ballet at one point too with those classes.
to add on, yves has the most dance training, and though her experience leans more towards the side of urban dance, she does seem to have some kind of contemporary training since her solo is heavily inspired by that style. she's probably be the most experienced in that regard. olivia might have some contemporary-adjacent training too, since she's usually loona's go-to for tumbling/acro skills.
Adding to that, I believe Heejin got training in street Hip Hop (I'm not a dancer, so do not quote me if this is off), like popping. You can see the energy she gives is very different when dancing from the softer, 'typical girl group' choreo, to the more powerful 'typical boy group' choreo, Heejin is so much more in her element when dancing to harder choreo (in terms of idol dance)
I think of all the LOONA members, Yves and Gowon (maybe Olivia Hye too) had the most prominent dancing backgrounds. I recall Yves and Gowon being recruited while they were a part of different dancing academies, and then had short training periods while under BlockBerry Creative.
olivia had no training period and she's my favorite dancer in loona it's just insane how much she improved from debut to butterfly to why not also i love watching gowon's fancams she always looks so gracious dancing
Someone must have already said it, but some of the girls were scouted by bbc directly from dance academies that they went looking for potential trainees.
BBC (their company) kinda slacks on giving us dance practices, especially for their predebut eras, some have dance practices, some have performance videos, some get none. Here’s a list in case you wanna check em out! Heejin - Vivid Dance Practice Heejin and Hyunjin - I’ll be there Dance practice Yeojin - Kiss Later Performance Video Kim Lip - Eclipse Performance Video Choerry - Love Cherry Motion Performance Video Yves - New Performance Video Loona Yyxy - Love4eva Dance Practice Favorite M/V (It’s a predebut single, the MV is practically a dance performance) Hi High - Original Choreography Dance Performance These are the only official choreography videos we have (I can think off the top of my head) most of their other songs have choreo but were only shown at live performance/stages
The “Intro” Song to “So What” is another video which has amazing foot stomping and hand clapping choreo. Muply has really great chores progression video of them from 365 to So What. Before they debuted they did learn ballet but almost all them have a dance background.
As a multi of Red Velvet, Twice, Dreamcatcher, Mamamoo, etc. etc. etc., Loona are queens of B-sides IMHO. Stylish, Heat, Colors, Satellite, Voice (& the English version Star) plus all their sub-units, solos--they just pump out hit after hit for songs that aren't even the main draw of OT12 Title Tracks.
I think you'd LOVE their GOT7 Eclipse dance cover! Also you got Full Moon and Love Battery which are also AMAZING!! Although those are performance videos, not practices so not fixed cam. But I still think you'll enjoy them a lot. And from the new album, if you haven't already, check out their performance of Voice. It's pure retro goodness!
love your loona reactions! you're getting me excited about the lore again lol. i'm sure you get a lot of suggestions but other loona dances to react to if you're looking for them: favOriTe (pre debut single, full group) and Egoist (solo from Olivia Hye aka taeyong twist girl) - they don't have dance practices but there are stage videos
You've mentioned that satellite is so good to be their bside, well i can't argue with you about that bec from left to right their bsides are awesome, their whole discog is just a masterpiece and worth to listen. Hoping that you'll be having a listening party for their albums soon toon. Please check more of their dance practices and covers, loona were indeed amazing dancers. 💚
i'm always waiting on your reactions i love them. please check out their stage for "voice" on "the show" i think you'll love it and i think they all had ballet classes for a while, yves solo song called "new" also has a ballerina style choreo you should check that out too
I believe they’ve all had ballet lessons... Heejin used to do belly dancing not related to your question but I love plugging my girls’ multi talents when I can 😌
Speaking of ballet-like movements, I think you would really like their Love Battery cover! The choreo for that is really cool, and I think they had a limited time to practice it
Great reaction! I love LOONA choreographies, I hope they'll release more b side dance practices. Speaking of, they released the dance practice for Why Not today if you'd like to see! It's great! There's also a suit dance for Why Not I think you'd appreciate seeing, since you liked the Secret Number suit dance :)
in a loona tv episode kim lip and gowon said that bbc had them go thru a lot of dance styles, they said took ballet for a short amount of time (they also said that they were “bad” at it??? girl i know you lying there), gowon has gotten a lot of praise in the past for her technique cuz she executes the moves (even in hard dances likes so what) in a very “jazz”-like style with typical “jazz” technique. but in general a lot of members in loona have a heavy dance background that we don’t know too much about so....
I think Yves (the one with the waist line) has some connections to ballet, you should check out her solo song "Yes", there's more of that kind of dancing
Loona did say that they practiced many different dancing styles, especially in the time between XX (Butterfly) and # (So what) i think,, (correct me if I'm wrong) the company is really making sure they cover all bases- i feel like loona does an incredible amount of training (especially cuz people like Heejin have been in the industry for like 5 years?) and seeing the training pay off like this is just breath taking. I love these girls T^T
yves enrolled herself into a dance academy and joined her her school dance troupe i think w out telling her parents lmao, as well as gowon altho i do remember them saying that they started learning ballet during so what era
you should definitely check out seventeen! they produce and choreograph their own songs not to mention theyre incredibly synchronized! id recommend home;run, hit, fallin' flower, and thanks! :D
why not dance practice has been released too~ and i know a lot of comments are asking for their cover of got7 - eclipse D: prob my favourite cover by them voice/star is one of the b sides from their recent comeback, great songs actually all their b sides are fire, i can listen to any without skipping
My mind kinda just remembered how iconic kim lip's part is at 2:29, but dam the whole choreo really slays I always thought that satellite should have been a title track (the song is sooo good, it would have been a hit) But yeah otherwise, dance practice wise I think there's only their cover of Eclipse by Got7 left, after that you should continue reacting to their other songs/Mv's :P
Statistically Loona has one of the most balanced choreography with Butterfly. People call them the female Seventeen of choreographies (a compliment I guess)
XX era which these two songs are from, was when LOONA really started being very synchonised with very very intricate and unique choerography. Not that ++ (their debut era) was bad per se, it's just i remembered going INSANE last year after seeing the massive difference between their debut and first comeback. If you like Loona's more graceful less hard hitting choero i think their Full moon stage and Love battery stages are some of the best rep? Also about synchonisation, made me think of IZONE which also have 12 members but their choero is quite different from loona. I think their best dance is Fiesta.
heres a list of dance covers i could think of that loona has done (including some of the ones you’ve reacted to): fire - bts cherry bomb - nct 127 eclipse - got7 not today - bts thanks - seventeen (briefly for a variety show) full moon - sunmi (only a few members participated) sorry sorry - super junior love battery - (kim kip, olivia hye, and haseul did not participate)
You mentioned that it must not be easy to learn and teach it to someone and the reason why they’re so good at the choreos is mainly because they’re good dancers but also because Loona doesn’t have comebacks regularly. The comeback So What was a year after Butterfly which gave them more time to improve vocally and dance wise :-)
Yeah I think LOONA is the girl group version of SEVENTEEN. I mean both SEVENTEEN and LOONA are the king and queen of synchronization in kpop, their choreo tho! And I hope you don't mind to check some of SEVENTEEN's choreographies as well, maybe "Thanks" bcs I freaking love that choreo, I love all of their choreo. Stan talented group, from me as Carat and Orbit.
You should really check out IZ*ONE! They are also a 12 member girl group and their choreographies are quite immaculate. They also were the most synchronised group ever when tested by a computer analysis. Even if you don’t, can’t wait for the next video! 💕
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, LOONA has two fixed dance instructors / choreographers. I've listed their Instagrams below in case you want to check them out. They have been with LOONA from the beginning until now, so they are very close with the girls, like proud parents :-) Kim Hyun Gyu - instagram.com/ayohg/ Kim Hwa Young (ex-JYP dancer) - instagram.com/faryoungkim/
I really love that you're getting into some of the newer groups like LOONA and Dreamcatcher, and I would like to see your reaction/analysis of Gfriend, the Queens of Sync and 2x dance. Here's their newest to get started. Gfriend - Mago dance practice - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tJf-vlcTXBA.html Gfriend - Mago dance practice (eye mask ver) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hihBGtZCij0.html
Yves (the one in the striped cropped top that commented on her waist) has some ballet/contemporary training (watch her solo MV and you can totally see it) and I know some of the members are starting to train other dance styles after debut. Chuu has Taekwondo training. Here is a link to Yves dance stage for her solo song, "New" : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FzrtCK6C-n0.html
I think Yves (whose waistline you complimented) has lyrical training. Kim Lip perhaps as well. They all also just do such a good job of making all their movements line up together.
She was definitely at a dance company but I think I'm remembering Yves said she was at school for vocal and she begged them to let her take dance classes too (or other way around).
I thought she just kept dance school a secret from her mother? I don't think she was at vocal school, but she is really good vocalist as well so she could have been.
I have a recommendation 🙋♀️ I don't know if you know who cignature is (they are still rookies). Their dance is so clean, like loona and they did a lot of covers. If you want to check them out ✌ (I love you reactions by the way ❤)
you gotta check out their cover of Got7 - Eclipse !! there is a dance practice video and the official dance video (with some behind the scenes clips). if you're interested in seeing another girl group with amazing choreography and dance skill, please check out some of gfriend's videos!! they are known for synchronized dancing, starting the famous 2x speed dance challenges, and their entire discography is amazing. they just had a comeback with the song "mago". please check them out!!
If you haven’t reacted to or seen any ONEUS videos yet, you should check them out- they’ve got pretty awesome choreo. Highly recommend ‘Come Back Home’ or ‘Lit’ 💕
